Official NHL thread 2007-2008

in my opinion
the only relevant sports are football, NBA (which i dont like) and college football and basketball (which i only like tourney time)

so basically
football is the only sport i enjoy watching

You're Arab? Do they play hockey in the desert? :1orglaugh

baseball, football and basketball are all way too slolwy paced. hockey is fast paced and always full of action. i watched many games this year where there were no breaks (whistles, penalties, etc.) for about 10:00 minutes which means the players were going all out non stop. you'll never see that kind of action in the MLB, NFL, or NBA.

Exactly. At least you get to see some bone-crushing checks, serious pace and a lot of heart being left on the ice. I heard that the NHL leads all sports in concusions. No wonder why. The overall effort is unparallel with the other major 3 sports. Plus NHL players are the coolest. My cousin is a serious auto hound, and when I am in town with him we go down to the Wild and get autos. I have Gretzky, Sakic, Shanahan, LeClair, Forsberg, Gaborik...you name it, they are all cool in the NHL. I don't go for autos when he goes for the NBA, NFL or MLB, but word is there are a lot of pricks that don't sign like those in the NHL. See if I would ever root for their over-payed asses. Oh, and if I want to catch some , I would just watch a football game: stop, start, stop, start, stop, start...

Anyone in Canada watching it on SportsCenter? They way they were sitting was Bossy, MacInnis, (guy from ATL can't remember his name), Luc Robatille, and Dave Anderchuck were all sitting in that order from left to right, and thats how the draft went.

Is Stamkos a really good prospect, close to Ovechkin, Malkin or Crosby? or just a solid prospect that will play maybe in 2 years? He just turned 18 in February!

He is as good as Malkin and Ovechkin but just a little lower than Crosby . He will definitely play right away next year . He will probably have a greater impact on the league than Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews because he is better than both of them . He will change the Tampa Bay Lightning for the better . I couldn't be more excited .

and most importantly, Tampa will finally have more than just 1 good scoring line. (although i was pleasantly surprised with Tarnasky's ablilities late in the year)

In the long run , the Brad Richards trade will really benefit Tampa Bay and with the great young players they will get from this summer's draft the Lightning will have a great season next year and beyond . Next year they will have 2 very good scoring lines specially if they re-sign Vaclav Prospal .

Wow...Calgary down 3-0 in the first 3 mins of the 1st period have now taken a 4-3 lead 3 mins left in the 3rd period.

A great game. An unbeleavable come back. Is it just me, or are the Canadian teams crowds (and even the games) just always a little better; maybe just a little more of an enviroment? It always seems that way to me. Maybe it's because it was invented there - and thus, they naturally know the game - and because they have no other real pro sports teams to watch up there. :dunno:

Haha ya they're better for sure. And hockey wasn't invented here, it's just our proudest national sport. And even if Canadians had more pro sports, hockey would still rule all.

Not sure about that (hockey not being invented - the current game - in Canada). You sure? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061108054344AAxJ5sG

Anyway, I tell you, that Wild vs Avs game last night was a classic. Gaborik is simply brilliant. Didn't get a point but quarterbacked the OT to a T. He is one of the top 5 MVP's of the league, IMO. But I tell you, watch out for the Wild after the way they played last night; they were ferocious. The whole squad is hitting on all cylinders. And Backstrom...what a night - 44 saves.

Yes, hockey was invented in Montreal. If not, it was at least popularize here. Oh, and Montreal leads series 3-1, Go Habs Go!
