Official NHL thread 2007-2008

i really feel confident in Tampa for the forseeable future. their defense has improved and will continue to thanks to the addition of Picard and Dan Boyle returning, they still have Lecavalier and St. Louis and their other lines are now shipping in with goals and now with Karri Ramo and Mike Smith in net, they could prove to be a 100 point team in the near future

I'm pretty sure they will at least be back to being a playoff team next year and maybe more than that . I have a feeling they will resign Prospal this summer so they will have a very good team .

what the hell was that debacle?? 6 goals in the last 18 minutes? what is so different about the 3rd period as opposed to the 1st and 2nd?

Ramo was awfull and the team didn't really play a good game up to the third period . Ryan Miller wasn't very good in that's why they where up 4-1 after 2 periods . Anyway , I don't mind the loss , they need to stay at least 29th for them to have a chance to get the first overall pick in the coming draft . It's too late for them to make the playoffs so why risk missing out on a great player like Steve Stamcos ? Next year will be much better !

Ramo made up for his previous bad performance with last night's win :)

Mike Smith is injured so Ramo is going to have to be good because Tampa has recalled Marc Denis to be the backup untill Smith is ok to play . I don't really want to see Denis in goal ever again .

yeah, i heard. i would have rather traded Denis and kept Holmqvist in the AHL. at least he had a few good games every now and then. and i don't see what the problem with Jonathan Boutin was. they should have just kept him as back up until Smith was back.

i hope when he returns, Smith is #1 with Ramo backup

thanks for the memories Timmy :(

"TAMPA, Fla. - Lightning captain Tim Taylor won't play a final game for Tampa Bay before retiring after the regular season ends.

The 39-year old Taylor, who has missed the entire season after undergoing off-season hip surgery, has recently been practising with team. Lightning coach John Tortorella had talked with Taylor about returning for one contest at home

"I'm not coming back" Taylor said during a question-and-answer session with fans before Saturday night's game against Carolina. "I want to remember the good times. I want to remember playing hockey. I don't want Torts to send me out to play two shifts and I'll stand around."

Taylor has 73 goals and 94 assists in 746 career games. The two-time Stanley Cup winner provided key leadership when Tampa Bay won its only NHL championship in 2004.

Two potential replacements for team captain next season are Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis.

"I think Vinny will be the next captain," Taylor said. "He's taken some great strides in the locker room."

Taylor plans to remain with the organization, spending most of his time working with prospects and minor leaguers."

That's sad news but also it's something Lightning fans knew was coming . Tim has been a great captain for Tampa and will be missed . I will always remember the story of that recording from Ray Bourque he played for the team just before game six of the 2004 stanley cup final vs calgary and how it inspired the players to play at their very best . I'm pretty sure the next captain will be Vinny because he is without a doubt the leader of the Tampa Bay Lightning .

anyone who knows the tampa bay lightning know that Khabibulin aka the Bulin Wall was the key in the stanley cup run

after that season ive just tuned out hockey....the strike killed it
the games are too high scoring....and the shrinking of pads has almost eliminated the dominant goalie

Then explain Marty Brodeur.

Didn't think too many American's liked hockey. Don't understand why too. You guys love baseball so much and think hockey is boring?? Hockey should be like the second favourite sport in America next to football. It's got bare knuckle boxing for fucks sake, lol, something that is illegal anywhere else. Anyway, I'm an Ottawa Senator's fan (I'm from Ottawa) and we just KILLED the Leafs (our arch rivals) 8-2...it was beautiful. I see there a lot of Tampa Bay fans here. They're alright, the need to tighten up their D and goaltending. I would love to have Lacalvier on my line with Spezza or Heatley, that'd be unstoppable. Anyway, good to see some American's supporting hockey.

The lack of NHL popularity in America has alot to do with American media. It's tough when the biggest sports network in America only shows 1 or 2 NHL highlights on their nightly show. The rest of the time they take every chance they can to bash everything about the NHL. It only gets mass coverage when something terrible like a Bertuzzi incident happens. It's a sad state of affairs really.

Are you serious? 1 or 2 highlights? That's brutal, what else do they talk about then? Baseball and baseketball? In Canada it's hockey coverage 70-80% of the time during the season.

Oh yeah. One of the guys on ESPN a few nights ago said "And that's about as close as you're going to get to a hockey highlight tonight" Of course you could hear the other guy at the desk laughing. Versus network most people don't even know where that is on their cable system. We do have options though. The NHL Network is available to US viewers and so is Center Ice. ESPN they talk about baseball (which i love second to the NHL),basketball, and they talk about football for the whole year. They for some reason also find it fitting to give sportswriters multiple hours of the day to grandstand about whether or not Jessica Simpson cost the Cowboys a win in the playoffs.

The Los angeles Kings won against the San jose Sharks last night so now Tampa is in last place in the NHL . If they lose their last game they will have a good chance at staying last and getting the first overall pick in the draft . Stamkos is getting closer to Becoming a Lightning ! :D
