Yet again, Matt Stafford proves he is a sub par, over rated QB. Bottom third of the league

Stafford is one of those trap quarterbacks. He's good enough that he can't be easily replaced and will cost a lot, but he's also not elite or good enough to single-handedly get teams over the hump and win. Teams will keep chugging along with players like that because it's too bothersome and risky to try and invest in somebody better, and to be honest it's just hard finding a good QB. It can sometimes work if a team is extremely lucky or just historically great in other aspects of the team to make up for a mediocre quarterback. For Detroit it doesn't help that the offense has looked off all year, and they will probably squander the best defense the team has had in long time.

Well the good news is that Detroit is a playoff team. I have always had a soft spot for the Lions and hope they do well unless they were to meet the Panthers. Highly unlikely I know, but I swear I would buy a Lions jersey and wear it if they were to somehow knock off the fucking Cowboys. The only realistic hope I have of Dallas not winning the NFC is Seattle.

But Stafford is three to four clicks above Jay Cutler on dependability.

I've calmed down a bit. Panthers are the first team to repeat as NFC South champs since realignment. Panthers host Arizona in Charlotte next week and have a chance to avenge the '09 playoff loss that broke Jake Delhomme. Today life is good.

yep I was thinking about that. And also the Panthers lost to them last year during the regular season. They should be motivated.

Congrats Panthers and their fans.

Not to be a debbie downer or point out the elephant in the room, but there's a team in the NFC (Eagles) at 10-6 with *3 more wins* than the Panthers but will be playing golf this week. An anomaly, but it's the 2nd time since the division re-alignment in 2002 that a team with a losing record made the playoffs (the first was the Seahawks in 2010).

The NFL is considering changing the playoff format along with expanding the field (bad idea). I think they need to go to a BCS system :D

Yeah, I realize that and it kinda sucks that the division was either awful or the Panthers were so banged up that they couldn't get it together until the end of the season. A win in the playoffs will justify them being there. I hope they can pull it off but the Cardinals are no slouch. The tie with the Bengals should have gone the Panthers way and they would have at least been an 8-8 team going in. Oh well.

They were destroyed by the AFC North. If one is to realign the playoff format, they should redo the inter-league play or some such. I hope they don't pander to the fans and their outcry, much of them are casual year to year fans with little knowledge or understanding of schedules and the like.

Congrats to the Panthers by the way, good game going on in Pitt right now.... 7up.

I think they are pretty close. I might put Stafford as a little better. The biggest difference is that Stafford has had a better supporting cast on offense most of his career than Cutler. (That's not saying much I know.) It makes it seem like the good side of Stafford's swings shows that he has huge potential when he doesn't. Both have also been in the league long enough I don't see any huge improvements from them here on out. Stafford's contract might be a little better than Culter's now. Still, it's not like either the Bears or the Lions can just go out and get somebody better. People that want to get rid of either of them forget that. Their backups aren't better than they are. There aren't better quarterbacks just sitting out there waiting to be had. Until a better option comes along for both teams it is what it is. As sad as it is there are also a good handful of teams that would probably kill for either of those two and some of them would even have been competitive with even mediocre quarterback play this year.

Disappointed that San Diego was eliminated from the Playoffs. Arizona would've been a major contender if not for all of their injuries. I'll be rooting for Denver, New England, and Indianapolis from the AFC and Dallas, Green Bay, Arizona, and Carolina from the NFC.

I'm still on Cloud 9. Looking at the playoff bracket, I'm hoping for Carolina Panthers Revenge Tour 2015. Goes as follows:
Wildcard Round: Beat Arizona ('09 playoffs)
Divisional: Beat Seattle ('06 playoffs)
NFC Championship: Beat Green Bay ('97 playoffs)
Super Bowl: Beat New England (Super Bowl XXXVIII)

I can dream.

Same old Detroit Lions (Green Bay 30, Detroit 20)

Big game with the division title on the line and as always the Lions come up short playing poorly in all phases of the game. Now it’s on to Dallas for more anguish and bitter disappointment in the wild card game. The most telling statistic coming out of yesterday’s game was “Matthew Stafford fell to 0-16 in his career on the road against teams with a winning record.” That just about says it all! The Lions will not be a true contender until they find a quarterback who can come up big in a big game. Another tell-tale stat that came out of this game “the Lions finished 0-4 against teams that made the playoffs.” There is nothing here that makes me feel optimistic about the Lions chances heading down to the big D next Sunday. The Lions will be major underdogs against the high scoring cool confident Cowboys.

The early line out of Los Vegas: Cowboys by 6.

Note: The Lions have just one post season win since 1957, a 38-6 victory against Dallas in 1991.

Post season record since 1957: (1-10)

1970, lost divisional playoffs (Dallas 5, Detroit 0)
1982, lost first round of the playoffs (Washington 31, Detroit 7)
1983, lost divisional playoffs (San Francisco 24, Detroit 23)
1991, won division playoffs (Detroit 38, Dallas 6)
1991, lost conference championship (Washington 41, Detroit 10)
1993, lost wild card playoffs (Green Bay 28, Detroit 24)
1994, lost wild card playoffs (Green Bay 16, Detroit 12)
1995, lost wild card playoffs (Philadelphia 58, Detroit 37)
1997, lost wild card playoffs (Tampa Bay 20, Detroit 10)
1999, lost wild card playoffs (Washington 27, Detroit 13)
2011, lost wild Card playoffs (New Orleans 45, Detroit 28)

Prediction: Dallas 28, Detroit 17.

What the Bears gave up to get Cutler was excesses however. Kyle Orton, two #1 picks and a #3 pick. All for a QB that is not leader and is selfish. I was happy with Orton as the QB,

He knew what he was doing, I love it that he recently has tried to be considered as a reformed 'clean' player, heh okayyy.

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
Glad the NFL showed some balls and suspended Suh for the playoffs. The local radio guy says you can't compare playoff and regular season games. Suh is going to hurt his team so much more with his playoff absence. Screw him.

Suspended.

He'll be a free agent after this season and I really wonder what the market will be. He's missing a playoff game because of his shenanigans. He's a great talent but if he can't be relied upon to not do stupid shit like this, why bother?

I'm a Lions fan and I agree. This Detroit Lions team is out of control, we have two thug players (Dominic Raiola and Ndamukong Suh) who enjoy stepping on people, inflecting pain and getting suspended from the biggest games of their careers. I’d get rid of both players immediately.

And let’s not forget about the quarterback (Matthew Stafford), who if it wasn’t for the law of gravity couldn’t hit the ground.

It’s time for coach Caldwell to stop this nonsense and get control of his team, otherwise he can pack his bags too.
