Really? You need a better reason than this is the best way we have to avoid your death or you infecting others and killing them (and so on down the chain)? I'll take immediate proven protection against death over possible mythical long term side effects we don't know about yet please. This is now largely a disease of the unvaccinated and almost exclusively a killer of the unvaccinated so Darwin will eventually sort this out for us. To me, this is a simple intelligence test - fail and you might die early. If you choose to fail, Darwin is always waiting.

There will always be a minority of people who will never be convinced in every country but I'm just sad that my neighbors to the south have politicians who are actively working to kill their own supporters. Can the MAGA side of the fence really afford to kill up to 2% of their supporters? Saying and doing the things that many Republican governors and politicians do would be political suicide in Canada and I suspect most places in the world. To me, that says a lot; infer the world's opinion of the situation in the US from that if you will.

You're preaching to the choir, I'm fully vaccinated. But telling people that this is an "intelligence test" i.e. they're just stupid is not going to convince anyone. The argument I posted is just one of the reasons that people I know, who I consider to be otherwise rational people, are using as a basis for not getting the shot, or at least being vaccine hesitant. So I'm trying to get some ideas (which might actually work) to convince them otherwise.

As for the mandates, I cannot argue against them. In the US, children need vaccines in order to go to school - or get an exemption. Why? Because not doing so puts others at risk. It should not be political. It is basic public health. Who wants polio to return?

I totally get your frustration, but unlike the Spanish Flu, we don't live in a time where the unvaccinated will all just die out, or that (most) governments will allow that to happen. They will clog our hospitals and spread the virus, allowing for more variants. At a 99.9% effectiveness at preventing death, that means 1 in 1000 of fully vaccinated people could statistically still die. Even the Pfizer vaccine has a 95% rate of preventing infections, meaning 1 in 20 can still catch the virus, and that's with the most trusted vaccine.

Not to mention, the longer the virus is allowed to spread, the more variants we'll have to deal with, which will require the development of new vaccines. So we'll have to continue getting jabbed with new vaccines indefinitely until we achieve universal vaccination like we did with smallpox.

Meaning, like it or not, we all have an interest in seeing what we can do to convince the holdouts.
We might not be able to do anything about the hardcore idiots, but there are a significant number of those who could be responsive to a rational counter-argument. And that's the point of my "exercise". This may just be a porn board, but we have some very sharp people who can provide some great insight.
