1️⃣4️⃣ days until we can start moving away from this insanity.

Fred Luntz: A pollster who used to work with Newt Gingrich:
https://thehill.com/homenews/campai...-blasts-trump-campaign-as-worst-hes-ever-seen

“I’ve never seen a campaign more mis-calibrated than the Trump campaign. Frankly, his staff ought to be brought up on charges of political malpractice ... They’re on the wrong issues. They’re on the wrong message. They’ve got their heads up their assess."

"Nobody cares about Hunter Biden…why is [Trump] spending all his time on him? ... Hunter Biden does not help put food on the table. Hunter Biden does not help anyone get a job. Hunter Biden does not provide health care or solve COVID. And Donald Trump spends all of his time focused on that and nobody cares.”

“Our undecided focus group participants called [Trump] some pretty awful names,”

Yeah, All our troubles will be over, or maybe just beginning.
We have to start somewhere.

Complacency is not acceptable, as some pollsters do show a Trump victory: https://thehill.com/homenews/media/...cts-trump-victory-polls-predominantly-missing

538 has the chances of a Trump victory at 12% - roughly equal to the odds of a major league pitcher getting a hit. 88% should not be rounded up to 100%. No guarantees.

I am in America, not of it.
I mean that we really don't know what will happen. I expect a small chance all will be well. If The Donald wins all is up higher in the air than ever. If Biden wins but the Senate stays Trump, all is lost as 4 more yours of absolute chaos is almost guaranteed. And the time until Jan 20th when The Donald has absolutely nothing to lose. What about that? And then if not in Jail, what if The Donald does buy or partner with ONA News to start the Trump Channel. We will pine for the Good Old Days of Fox News. The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse might be just a side show for this. His "people" rioting, stating fights, trying to start a Civil War or a Race War. And The "Libs" fighting back. We Pessimists are not expecting a good time. We might be pleasantly surprised but I think the chances are small, possibly infinitesimally so.

I think we're all in agreement that, win or lose, the wildest times are very likely still ahead.

more days (excluding any over- or extra-time).

After this election, regardless of who wins, both parties need to elevate new leadership. The President, Majority Leader, and Speaker of the House average 77.3 years of age. Roughly 6% of the American population is over 75 while the median and average ages are 35 and 38, respectively. Pass the baton to the next generation so we can plan for the future and not keep re-fighting the problems of the past.

100% spot-on. It is pretty ironic that Trump campaigned on the slogan, "Drain the swamp", and followed up by installing the greatest army of Swamp Monsters known to men. African banana-republic style.

But his slogan rang true, and the swamp HAS to be drained. The paid for public servants (A joke, nowadays) need to get kicked out and replaced with menn and women and diverse identites that bring back law and order and wipe out the current payment sytem for the politic system.

The problem is in my opinion is that as I have seen here in Illinois is when a Pol or associate goes to jail, retires, dies, etc A new person is installed. In the case of Death usually a relative or friend. Hence no change. If retired, a descendant (we Humans love Dynasties, especially Political ones) and the Saga continues. On the rare occasion a new person is elected for a while they are trying to be different but over time(sometimes a short time, sometimes longer) the system changes to person to fit in. Because in any system of governance you need cooperation to get anything you want done. So as Supafly says, things need to change wholesale. The hard part is doing it and then avoiding a return to the time tested(Hundreds of years tested) that have worked so well. The funny thing is in some places the system works quite well. Some states are run well, some countries also. Again depends on the culture involved.

I think it's on the way. I believe we're going to start seeing more AOCs and Buttigiegs rising to the top of the democratic party, which will increase the strength, agility, and general popularity of the party. Pelosi needs to go, she's been a bit of a pain in the ass lately. I think this brush with extreme right wing tyranny is going to bring in a lot of changes. Over the last few years we've seen how helpless the US is when just a handful of guys want to do whatever the fuck they want and I imagine the majority of people will want to fix things in a way that ensures this never happens again and the government is accountable to the people, not the other way around. The question then becomes, is a Biden government the one to do that, or is it just a stepping stone to the one that is?

Anyhoo, side note, I'm going camping tomorrow. A solid week with no phone, no internet, no tv, no trump. I'll be back in plenty of time for your election or civil war or whatever you guys end up deciding on.

512px-Paris_Metro_11.svg.png days until we find out how much extra time the refs decide to tack on.

The final debate was more civil, but certainly less entertaining. Nothing much came out of it, besides Biden seeming more concerned about all Americans instead of a narrow swatch. Trump seems to be more concerned about how much people get paid rather than their environment. Getting paid and having a clean environment is necessary. Are they really mutually exclusive?

Over the past three decades, revisiting my hometown is quite depressing. There is no pollution from the razed steel mill across the river, but plenty of unemployed folks just hanging around. There was once a time of full employment, but a nasty sulphur-smelling (like rotten eggs) orange cloud frequently lingered in the air. Trump promised to help those people, but it doesn't seem to have worked out that way - even before COVID. To be fair, no one else has helped them much since then either.

Coal towns are in a similar bind. Is it worth getting black lung in exchange for a paycheck?

The Chicago Machine. Obama's true roots.

Of course, your statement immediately reminds me of Blagojevich.

**chuckles and shakes his head** Do you really think the "good 'ole boy" activities and nepotism of politics is reserved for Chicago alone? For Obama? It runs so damn deep in Americana, it might as well be the Mariana Trench. Christ...just look at the Texasness of LBJ and his cronies...or even better the Bush family. The tendency to "keep it in the family" or "amongst friends" is older than any political party we find ourselves arguing about here.

Stop delivering common sense to this thread and go steal some ballots or dump them in a river. :)

LBJ and Box 13! I recall reading about a lesson he learned by losing an election: "Don't announce your vote totals before your opponent."

NYC, as we all know, is notorious for corruption as well. Robert Moses doled it out as well as anyone.
