There is also always a possibility of a waiver deal.
Rough times for Phillies, Astros and Cubs fans. I've watched my club dismantle, and it is not always fun - nor does it always lead to success.
Meanwhile, the Reds made only one move, getting Jonathen Bronxton from the Royals for a couple of prospects. Some Reds fans were upset about it - but prospects are just those. And, they were not major prospects, and Bronxton will only solidify an already strong bullpen.
 
How about them Giants? Crushing the Cardinals!! Ouch. Already up 11-0 top of the eighth nobody out, runner on second. :stir:

Red Sox legend and veteran of WWII Johnny Pesky has died at 92 :(

BOSTON -- Adored by generations of Red Sox fans, Johnny Pesky was so much a part of Boston baseball that the right-field foul pole at Fenway Park was named for him.

Pesky, who played, managed and served as a broadcaster for the Red Sox in a baseball career that lasted more than 60 years, died Monday. He was 92.

"The national pastime has lost one of its greatest ambassadors," baseball commissioner Bud Selig said. "Johnny Pesky, who led a great American life, was an embodiment of loyalty and goodwill for the Boston Red Sox and all of Major League Baseball."

Pesky died just over a week after his final visit to Fenway, on Aug. 5 when Boston beat the Minnesota Twins 6-4.

I obviously never got to see him play/manage but he's been a part of the Sox and Fenway Park for my entire life and a long time before that.

Pesky's passing sucks, quite a bit. An era is quickly slipping away from us in the 1940s. It sucks not just for the Redsox, but for baseball. May he rest in peace.
 
King Felix just threw a perfect game against the Rays.

Seriously, it's a crime that this guy doesn't get to throw for a team that isn't out of the playoff race halfway through spring training.

The news of Melky Cabrera's 50-game suspension for a positive testosterone test provides a convenient opportunity to repeat a statement made last week by former WADA anti-**** boss Dick Pound. To paraphrase, Pound said if you test positive for PEDs, you've failed two tests: a **** test, and an IQ test.

Oh, Cabrera's case proves many other things as well. For one, testing works; and for another, so do PEDs...

Guy would look great in the Reds rotation. Cueto, Latos, Leake, Bailey, Felix. Oh yeah.
His last couple of innings were ridiculously dominant. Rays batters didn't have a chance. It was like watching guys face Chapman.

I remember when Chapman was in talks with the Sox. Why didn't throw a ton of cash at him is beyond me.
 
White Sox! I'm so pessimistic though. I'm just waiting for them to go on a losing streak at which point I'll lose all hope and declare the season over. Hopefully this wont happen

The Rays have no luck. This is the 3rd time in 4 seasons that they've had a perfect game pitched against them

If I am not mistaken, the Reds didn't even make the highest offer (I could be far off there, though). They actually have a rather underrated Latin American presence, and it doesn't hurt that their history is full of legends like Davey Concepcion, Tony Perez, Mario Soto and Chico Ruiz.
 
The Reds did not make the highest offer to Chapman. yes they do have an amazing Latin presence and success rate in helping them be good to great players.

I think this was an outstanding trade by the Reds.
Broxton has one of the best arms in the game. Wicked fastball, and he developed an offspeed pitch to compliment it.
The one thing all of us (all except seemingly brain dead Joe Torre) in L.A. noticed about Broxton is that you shouldn't pitch him on short rest. To be at his best he really needs a day (or more) between outings, even if those outings are only one inning.
