It's funny to see people complaining about the amount of rep people have, and not adressing the reason for it. No one would have a problem with the existence of huge rep values if it weren't for the existance of a single thread in the games section.

I don't care, I like knowing when people recognize my posts for whatever reason, as long as it's not simply for having the post above them.

However, no one has to post in that thread, so posts are for real and repping the member above you is 'cause you want to.
I am proud of the neg rep I got...you would understand if you knew the members who neg repped me, and why.
And although I won't get a nice towel or autographed toaster by trading in my points, I enjoy getting repped.

Like others have said - I like the Rep because it's a different way of recognizing 'contributions'. I like getting comments with my rep - good or bad. Gives me an idea of what my posts bring about.

When I rep, I comment. Nothing blanket about it at all.

I belong to other message boards where there are no signature lines, animated avatars, post counts OR Rep ... just a name and a small pic (which has to be requested and approved) for an avatar. But the action and board experience is no less enjoyable there...

Bottom line? It's the membership and staff that make the substance of a board - the rest is just flash and glitter.

I somehow feel obliged to rep-back people.

I get some lovely messages and lots of nice new rep and I feel like I ought to rep back..
otherwise the other reppers will form a vengeful mob armed with pitchforks and burning sticks and will hunt me down to my castle in the Bavarian Alps and ....oh sorry, got carried away.

Well as most of you know I've never been one of the members who just go about repping people. As I've said before I don't even think about it and don't even look at it. The only times I mainly rep people is for good posts I like and a thanks for some reason. I most likely rep new members more than the older and regular members. This is a way I see it for getting them to also become more regular posters and make good posts. When I do rep, it always has a comment on it to tell them why I repped them.

As for the congrats threads on rep I've not been in one for as long as I can remember now and that was when there was only one. They as RogueWolf says have gotten out of hand. I was actually thinking the same as Rogue yesterday morning when I logged in and there was 5 or even more of these thread in the first 10 new posts.

I can't see a point anymore saying congrats on someone passing a number for posting nothing. (sorry)

I'm often repped for the posts I make and the work I put into threads. Usually I rep as a thank you from time to time for people taking part in these threads. But mostly it's for the fact I like a post.

As I've said before and no doubt will have too again...

I so agree with you, excellent post...but rep is a little more fun than thank you pms; I give rep for virtual high-five, and I get it as a compliment of sorts.
