Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

I remember when I finally reached 50 posts, I saw that I had 81 rep power, and I thought that was pretty good.

As it is now and has been for a long time, rep numbers don't mean anything to me. I do like to rep others, or get repped myself, by someone saying "good post" or leaving a personal comment or something. To me it's all about that you rep and what you rep for, and the rep points or rep power don't mean anything to me.

Wgaf?

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

Don't mind me Roguewolf, but I use this to say something that means something to the person getting the rep. The points are not important. Its the way we communicate that is what counts.
I know there is pm available.
But that is I, and I'm not going to call anybody a jerk, just because he spoke his mind.:D

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

I look forward to the 'Infinite number' rep thread.

Rep will be calculated to the power of 10 plus infinity (or whatever)

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

I have said several times in various threads that the rep I get counts most when I receive a nice comment (usually do) about my post saying why they repped me. Not blank comment boxes that makes me feel I was repped so they could spread only.

I give rep for what I feel are extra good posts and sometimes just for overall being a good member and contributor. That's why it takes me so long to get back around again to some. I won't just rep noobs etc. so I can spread to get back to some. I've seen noobs with a grand total of 35 posts of "Oh yeah, shes hot" or "I'd fuck her" and 37,000 + rep points. Somethings not right there that's for sure.

Look on the bright side. Someday the rep numbers will get so large it will probably screw up the way the board looks. So by then they will either have to start over, get rid of it, or maybe the planet will just blow up because of all our rep greatness. Either way the problem will get solved for you. :1orglaugh

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

Yes, while rep may have become "just a number" to some, it still has become an integral part of this board since it was introduced.
It was something fun to share and talk about in the beginning and it still is. Look at all the rep threads around, look at the high numbers achieved - that is, members sharing with other members.
I just answered a pm and stated that I give out rep because it is there to share - just as Foxy had stated long ago - but that I give to "good" members, that is members who contribute positively to the board as a whole.
If I post in all the "congrats" threads, it's because I want to show some love for my fellow Freeones members and the post count does not go up.
We as humans want to feel appreciated and on this board, rep has always been the way to show it.
I may have a lot of rep power, and it is because of that, that I feel appreciated and I appreciate all who have shared their's with me.

RogueWolf has beeen a Great member since he joined and his presence here is an asset to the board!

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

personally, i'm quite proud of having NO negative reps so far. means i must be doing something right.

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

I learned a while ago that to quickly multiply your own rep tenfold, you just needed to rep others on either the "Rep collectors" threads, or the "Congratulations" threads.

At the risk of sounding like a jerk myself... I would say the general nature of the board is better than 1 year ago. Within the past year the banishment of a certain few members (who had a history of being rep abusers) have made this community a much more positive and pleasant environment.

The bottom line... I would rather continue to have the generous heapings of (dare I say it) "undeserving" positive rep that goes on today, than the rampant abuse of negative rep we had one year ago.

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

I hit 1 million rep before I hit 80 posts. And I'll probably hit 2 million before I get to 100 posts. I don't mind it. Just shows that people are enjoying my prescence here on the board. Thanks to all. And I think I'll give reppage to the threadstarter just cuz I can, ;)

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

Just another useless number in my opinion. Like post count...

I don't really care for the points function, but do appreciate getting repped for links and agreed upon posts. It's nice to know someone liked what I posted.

I wouldn't get rid of it, but would take away the number part as the function itself is a great way of leaving little notes or thank you's for one another.

I totally agree!

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

Most other forums have post whores. This forum doesn't allow you to spam up your post count just for the hell of it. So instead, we have rep whores. All message boards go through whoring in one way or another. This one is no different.

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

Reps do seem to be in hyper-inflationary spiral. Maybe this could be solved by having the reps back by the value of some commodity like gold or plutonium. In any event, the number are getting so long they are hard to read. I would suggest the use of commas to make the numbers more readable.

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

All I can say is don't ever let the risk of being called a jerk stop you from posting. Hell,I would have stopped a loooong time ago.

Re: At the risk of being called a jerk...

It's funny to see people complaining about the amount of rep people have, and not adressing the reason for it. No one would have a problem with the existence of huge rep values if it weren't for the existance of a single thread in the games section.

I don't care, I like knowing when people recognize my posts for whatever reason, as long as it's not simply for having the post above them.
