BTW freejames .. on his own admission Chuck Berry was heavily influenced by T Bone Walker .. the same note slide across two strings .. a trademark of CB is pure T Bone.
Again this thread is rock centric for me the greatest soloist ever is Django.
Listen to him on Limehouse Blues or any Hot Club record. Les Paul was no slouch either.
If I had to pick a Clapton solo it wold be the one on "White Room"

for the first time we disagree on music. i think neil is a brilliant guitarist who can bust solos for HIS STYLE of music.

as far as the best solo goes, there is no answer. i can think of 1000 that could be considered. not just metal neither.
