Best Guitar Solo

Mayhem

Banned
Jerry's' solo on "Walk Me Out In The Morning Dew" on the "Europe '72" album. I have heard other versions, of course, but he nailed it on that one. Thank God for CD's. I'd have worn out my 25th album by now if they were still vinyl.

Too many greats to choose from. Here's some of my favs. . .
Stevie Ray Vaughn. its a shame we lost him so early.
Kenny Wayne Shepard. So good at such an early age.
Carlos Santana. I LOVE his solos.
Dave Mustaine form Megadeth. My favorite band.

One of the best I've ever heard, but I can't quite rate it as THE best...
"Framed" by Saga, Worlds Apart CD from the early '80's. Showing my age, true, but it's still one of the best I've heard. :2 cents:

There is too big a history of excellent guitar solos for me to catalogue right now , so going with what is fresh in my mind & somewhat recent , I would say that the solso from Avenged Sevenfold's Bat Country ROXXX LIKE A BASTARD!!!

But like I said there is a shitload of bitchin guitar solos , i've probably forgotten more than i remember.

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
I would never be able to pick one...I will say I tend to lean towards the more melodic and purposeful, as opposed to the hammer-on and speed technics.
I would say Steve Howe, Steven Hackett, Duane Allman, Frank Zappa, David
Gilmour, Santana, Page, Townsend, and Hendrix are my favorites...they all have held the number one spot at one time or another in my book...I guess it depends on my mood

There are many great guitar solos i like, one of my favourites is from Andy Scott (Sweet) on "Set me free" . There are some great bass solos too, i love Steve Harrris´s Solo (Iron Maiden) on "Losfer words"

i think that David Gilmour have done some of the best solos

the special good one to me was in "shine in your crazy diamond" in the "the delicated sound of thunder", if i remember well, really it dont have a lot of glamour, but is just perfect, the guitar and the silence are both great

in the other extreme is Carlos Santana, well there are many of them, maybe "mulata" in a concert, but are others

Pretty much anything by Tom Morello of Audioslave or Jimi Hendrix.

Buy the new Audioslave album, Revelations. Kicks so much ass, you will cry from the awesomness of the music.

The solo on "Layla" was Duane Allman....not Clapton. I agree it is awesome though!
Actually Duane came up with the opening riff. Clapton said in an interview that everyone just assumed that the solo was Duane because of the use of the slide. He also said that nobody belived him so he just let people think what they would. Still a classic though.
My faves Lynyrd Skynyrd: Simple Man. Any Hendrix and Any SRV
