Honestly, I don't see this as an upset. I actually picked Houston to win.

Whenever Las Vegas has you as a 12-point dog at home and you win, that's an upset. I picked them to win too but I didn't put any money on it so that really doesn't count....more of a rooting bias.

Whoever wrote (believes) that is full of shit. Did nobody pay attention to the recruiting tidbit they mentioned about Houston? More than half of Houston's signee's this year played high school ball within 32 miles of the campus!

I believe what the author is saying is that the obvious local advantage is what has prevented Houston from garnering much support among other Big 12 schools in the past. For decades, UT, Oklahoma and other Big 12 schools have mined talent-rich Harris and surrounding counties like they filed a claim on them. Houston was rarely able to get any the 4 and 5 star recruits as a result (look at them when Tony Levine was coach just a few years ago!). There was a brief time when Kevin Sumlin and Art Briles were here where some of that started to shift but as long as Houston was stuck in C-USA or whatever they want to call the old Big East this year, they remained at a recruiting disadvantage. This is all in the process of changing although Ed Oliver is the first local 5-star recruit I believe the school has gotten in a long, long time. UT agreeing to consider Houston for admission is huge and yesterday's win over OU might have sealed the deal once and for all.

NFL GMs need to follow the Saban formula. If your OL and front seven on defense are among the best, you will contend for a title.

From what the announcers were saying during the game, Ed Oliver is the only 5 star recruit to come to Houston, and, the only 5 star recruit to ever sign with a non power 5 school.

The Longhorns upset the O'Reillys in eleven overtimes, 116-110. I'm going to bed no..............

That's not true, though. BYU and Southern Miss have signed a five star recruit.

Looks like the results of the purge are starting to bear some fruit. Dual-threat QB options (Swoopes with the 18-wheeler package looks unstoppable), offense finally appears to be developing and, as expected, the D is solid. Huge game for Strong....he will not survive another troubled season. I deliberately didn't say a word about this game one way or the other so I can't take any bragging rights away (I was scared to death to be honest....just had no idea what to expect) but I sure am happy with the outcome. Feels like we've been a second-rate program for a long time. Not sure how much more you can read into this....how good or bad is Notre Dame this year? :dunno:

Ole Miss is kicking our a**es during the first half. Ole Miss isn't during anything special, our all world talent looks like it is unprepared for this game. Charles Kelly need to tell his defense ignore the score, cut the BS, play fundamental football and see what happens.

You need not have worried. I'd have had a killer weekend betting if Ole Miss had covered. At halftime, with the points included, they were up 34 to 13. But then apparently the football gods realized I was sitting on a big score, and the rest is history.

Week 2 is upon us....

Oh how I loved seeing USC get totally humiliated by 'Bama :D
But thinking Western Kentucky might just be catching the tide at a good time to cover the spread.

Who else looks interesting ....(scrolling down the game lines at my book site)...

North Carolina is capable of throwing in a real stinker now and then, but on paper they should roll Illinois.
New Mexico should demolish New Mexico State.
Can't believe Washington State gave up 45 points and lost to Eastern Washington...AGAIN, and in Pullman no less. Bounce back time in Boise? Hmm. Tempting but I don't think I can trust they'll make that quick a turnaround.
San Diego State is a 7 point favorite over Cal. Interesting...
BYU vs Utah should be a good matchup. Too close to call for me.

So it turns out that the Cinderella finish in the Central Michigan/Oklahoma State game should never had taken place to begin with. Weird and wild play to give the Chippewas the quite improbable win in Stillwater. I guess OSU can file a protest but....in reality, what can anyone do? CMU walked off the field with a win and, regardless of the fuck-up, I can't imagine the victory being taken off the books. Check it out if you didn't see the play....

There was a game last year, where something similar happened. The outcome of a game was affected and there was talk that rules should be changed, because in todays world of college football, 1 loss can affect playoff chances, and a missed playoff could cost millions. Most likely this game won't change things, but if something like this were to happen to Alabama, Ohio State, or Notre Dame, you can damn well guarantee there would be some major shit hitting the fan. If not rules being changed, referee(s) would be getting fired.

Keep stacking up those wins Michigan!!

Go Blue U of M

Unbelievable play!
But what kind of fucked up rule is that? A team with the lead should not be able to end the game via intentional grounding. That's just BS.

I agree! So the offensive team is leading and is backed up against their own goal line with only a few seconds left in the game, 4th and long, defensive team has time outs left and a possible opportunity to score if they can get the ball back. Do you mean to tell me that instead of risking a punt, all they have to do is intentionally ground the ball and the game is over? Who's the fucking genius who thought that one up? I'm not an OSU fan (obviously) but I do have empathy for them for what happened if for no other reason than if it happened to them, it could happen to us.

Let me start by saying that, yesterday, when I commented, I didn't know the entire story behind how all this happened. Now that I do, I really don't give a shit about OSU losing.

Why is no stating the obvious? All they had to do was hike the ball, run backwards, out the back of the end zone, let them have 2 points, the clock reads :00 and you win by 4. Mike Gundy is just fucking retarded.

Well, no one besides an OSU fan cares that they got fucked so I'm right there with you. Point is, Gundy could have and should have had the game end on the intentional grounding according to the rules. Maybe he knew that (unlikely) or maybe he didn't (probable) but either way, stupid rule that needs to be reviewed and changed. The way it played out, OSU set the stage for their own demise. Certainly, a deliberate safety would have done the trick but that's not how Gundy played it so he gets the result whether it was fair or not. They won't be changing the outcome regardless so it's all academic at this point anyway. Really a bizarre set of circumstances no matter how you slice it.

Louisville is leading FSU by 39, I thought Clemson could do this after reviewing of the Ole Miss game film. Clemson has elite level talent at every position on offensive. This will be the worst lost in FSU football history. Louisville went after the FSU defense weak links they saw on film.

God. Damn. It. Ferentz showed up again. That guy really doesn't get his teams fired up enough.
