Fuck, that pisses me off. Rogers finally decides to open up their wallets to get a pitcher who would have allowed us to genuinely compete and we get beaten by a team that has been in the World Series for two years. Goddamn it. Their bid was probably less than a thousand more than ours, too.

The Rangers have 30 days to sign him until his posting goes up again. There is still hope.

Also, he may be tearing it up in Japan, but so did Dice K. He flamed out real quick and cost Boston over $100 million. Darvish cost $51.7 million just for the rights to negotiate with. Yikes. I don't know if anybody is worth that much, considering he's never played a game in MLB.

Actually i think Toronto losing out on Darvish is not so bad. Gio Gonalez is still available in Oakland and he will only cost you prospects. and you know he can beat AL East teams.

Unfortunately, Texas has a lot of money to burn. If they cannot sign them, there is a good chance Toronto will not be able to afford him, either. Not saying it would be impossible, but unlikely.
Of course, were it me, I would rather play in Toronto than Texas.

I think Toronto would have had the money. The company that owns the Jays is one of the largest in Canada and just spent nearly a billion dollars to buy part of the Leafs and Raptors. Apparently they told our GM to sign Darvish regardless of price, but that didn't happen.

Jesus Montero, Michael Pineda Trade: Yankees, Mariners Reportedly Swap Top Talents

The Seattle Mariners agreed to trade right-hander Michael Pineda to the New York Yankees for catcher Jesus Montero on Friday, a swap involving two of baseball's top young talents.

A person familiar with the deal confirmed the trade to The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss the trade that will be completed pending physicals.

As part of the trade, the Yankees also sent 24-year-old pitcher Hector Noesi to Seattle for 19-year-old righty Jose Campos.

The deal addresses needs for both sides. The Yankees were looking for another starter, preferably young, to add to their rotation, while the Mariners were desperate for a slugger to add to an offense that was among the worst historically the last few seasons.

In addition, another person familiar with the agreement told the AP the Yankees had reached a deal with free agent pitcher Hiroki Kuroda on a $10 million contract for one season. The 36-year-old righty was 13-16 with a 3.07 ERA for the Dodgers last season. Kuroda's contract is pending a physical.

Wow, the Mariners actually pulling off a trade that might help them. I wonder who got drunk. :surprise:

the Rockies will the the surprise team in 2012
Who are they going to beat? The Dodgers? The Padres? :dunno: Certaintly not the Giants or the Diamondbacks!

Every year they play close to .600 at home, however they really suck on the road, some years, they have a winning percentage close to .400 .... That just ain't cutting it.

OK, perhaps the most exciting and improbable World Series in history just concluded with the St. Louis Cardinals being crowned the new World Champions. Now the hot-stove season begins. Some high-profile free agents will be testing the waters and it will be interesting to see where they land. Will Pujols be back in St. Louis or will be end up playing for another team? What teams do you see as being the early favorites to win their divisions in 2012? Who's gonna suck again next year? Let the wrangling begin....

Hell yeah, Jagger... the Hot Stove League is still cooking and Spring Training isn't far off. Gonna be difficult for the Cardinals to match last year's excitement. But, I'll still be pullin' for 'em.

As for the Rockies... they might just become the next 2nd Coming of the Cubs. They play well at home, they stink on the road. Come June you can expect a tail spin for most of the month.

Mayhem the Mariners got taken. Montero is 24 and a dh only and his power will be muted by Playing 81 games in Seattle, plus the 9 games in Oakland. Pineda is going to place where the offense will halp overcome the additional runs he will give up. although both could get hurt i's rather have that Pitcher long term

So do the Tigers move Miggy over to third or just put Prince in at DH? Inge has to be worried about now. Talk about panicking about an injury. Still need to address the pitching though.

Since the Yankees traded Jesus Montero for Michael Pineda, and Jorge Posada retired today don't be surprised if Brian Cashman makes a play for ex-Yankee Johnny Damon as their DH. Even though, yes, the Detroit Tigers are eyeing him too. As a replacement for Victor Martinez. And yes, the last major position player free agent on the market Prince Fielder also signed today with the Tigers as well with a nine year deal.

I thought maybe my White Sox would be competitive this year especially if Rios and Dunn were to rebound, but now that the Tigers signed Fielder I don't see them much of anything this year. It's going to be a long summer here in Chicago, both on the north and south side.

now would be the time for the White Sox to go into complete rebuilding mode and eat the Dunn and Rios contracts. Detroit just moved to the top 5 AL teams even if the have to move Caberera to the out field or 3rd. do not give away Inge as he can play the out field and 3rd making him a good backup if his Knees are sound.

the NL Central is now wide open everyone but the Astros have a chance

I am not too sure about the Fielder contract - that is a lot of money and quite a few years for a big guy. Big guys have a tendency to have a rather quick and large drop off as their 20s fade away.

I know it's early yet. But, I'm doing it anyway!

Dice K was a huuuuge bust, even when he was decent his pitch counts always got up there really quick and you were lucky if you got 7 innings out of him!

Go Cardinals!!!!
