Retiring soon after previously saying he would play past 2012 = Scared of Nadal, pretty much admitting he is not good enough to beat him. People could still criticise him for this.
Continue = Likely lose to Nadal some more, might win some more on HC, maybe grass. A late career win like Sampras had could help with his legacy. Nadal could still get hurt too.

14-7 is misleading because of Nadal not returning the favour of showing up to meet Fed on HC. Since they have been 1 and 2 for so long, they have only met in the finals pretty much all the time. Generally, Fed has made the finals of everything consistently. On the other hand, Nadal has not.

Federer Tournament Finals by surface
Hard (41-9)
Grass (11-2)
Clay (9-11)
Carpet (2-5) - Five of those were in 2002 or earlier

Nadal Tournament Finals by Surface
Hard (10–8)
Grass (3–2)
Clay (29–2) > 31-0 if not for Fed
Carpet (0–0)

So that is 50 finals for Fed on his favourite HC compared to Nadals 18. (A third of Feds)
Compare this to Nadals favourite clay courts, and it is 31-20 in favour of Nadal. Much more even. (Two thirds of Nadals)
Nadal is 10-2 vs Fed on clay, and 4-5 against him on non-clay.
If Nadal made more HC finals, they would have played each other more, Fed the arguable HC-GOAT would have won the majority of them and it would be more even. What has actually happened is: He didnt, but Fed still made a good amount of clay finals, where he got beat by the arguable clay-GOAT Nadal.
It is a problem that he has lost to him in Grass and HC Grand Slams, and future HC matches could favour Nadal, but at the moment the 14-7 thing is not really fair.
...and unfortunately, the casual fan may not realise this ^

Oh hey, Caro is number 1 now
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/tennis/9070895.stm

Third year in a row having a slamless number 1 after Jankovic(2008) and Safina(2009).
The real number 1 is an absentee again with injury.

Serena is no longer the real no. 1: a no. 1 who has played only 6 tournaments in October already ? pffff...

Wozzie, unlike Dinara and specially Jelena (ok, maybe Dinara not as much...), deserves completely his spot, and SHE WILL gain at least one slam.

besides, she's prettier than the other two :p

Murray dissapoints us all again...

Roger practicing at Shanghai

http://www.shanghairolexmasters.com/home/imgGalleryimage_list.do?imageGallery.id=56

he's the only one of the top-10 who came to this tournament with no official matches since US Open... if he doesn't get lucky with the draw, and get somebody difficult in the first rounds, could be a major upset coming up...
otherwise, he's above the Soderling's, Berdych's, Davydenko's, so, the SFs will be the worst scenario.

He drew big serving John Isner(unless he loses to a qualifier), who lost to Djokovic today but beat Davydenko and Kohlschreiber to reach the semi-finals in Beijing. Then its likely Cilic, Soderling and Djokovic to get to the final.
No pushovers there
Maybe Tipsarevic, Golubev or Ferrer could change that lineup though.

Nadal has Simon/Wawrinka in the first round, but his draw looks easier than Feds.
He almost lost today, saved two match points. Thats after being up 5-3 in the third set, then 5-3 up(I think) in the tiebreaker. Whew
Troicki really tensed up on the big final points.

Djokovic won against Ferrer in Beijing, defending his title from last year
6-2, 6-4

2nd title of the year (too few for the No. 2 player in the world...)
18th title of his career (very good for somebody as young as him...)
this week in Shanghai will face (most likely) Ljubicic... ouch

and for David, it was his 4th final of the year (1 victory)
and with this he moves into the top-10 again :)
He will face Llodra in 1st round in Shanghai, and Bellucci in 2nd. Very tough.

Guess who is out again - Verdasco
7-6 7-5 to de Bakker
How much longer can he stay in the top 10 :dunno:
Melzer looked a little shaky against his Chinese no-name opponent at the end of the second set, but still managed a tiebreak win 6-4, 7-6(5)

Todays matches include Kohlschreiber/Roddick(upset maybe), with Monfils and Cilic playing too against guys they should beat. Golubev/Tipsarevic could be good for the lower profile match, and both guys can take out top players in the later rounds if they are 'on'.

Shanghai is the unofficial 5th Grand Slam, all the top 20 are playing in it, along with 28 of the 32 title winners this year :hammer:
The main problem will be the weather, here's hoping it doesnt rain much.

Nadal-Federer would spice up Shanghai

http://espn.go.com/sports/tennis/blog/_/name/bodo_peter/id/5672999/nadal-federer-spice-shanghai

duh'

no ****...

Roger plays tomorrow against Isner... ouch

http://www.tennistalk.com/en/previews/20101012/Federer_makes_Shanghai_debut_on_Wednesday

The bad news is of course, Isner's serve.
The good news is that he played yesterday a 3-hour match, saving 7 match points

My guess is a tight 3-setter. Who win? dunno...

I don't see Fed to have any trouble with Isner. I guess I don't know their head-to-head record, so I could be wrong.

H2H: 1-0 in favour of Federer at the 2007 US Open. 6-7(4), 6-2, 6-4, 6-2
Roger Federer defeated John Isner, making a run of 105 consecutive points without an unforced error during the second and third sets.
That was prime Fed against early Isner(his first pro year). Maybe Isner has more of a chance now, but Roger should still win.

Well can't really say Isner played terrible (despite his poor body language) but Fed just played exceptional. Isner only had like 7 aces or something like that. He's got to score more points on that - his biggest weapon - if he's going to beat guys like Feds.

Die For Me
Davydenko lost again
Roddick got injured when he looked good for the win. He was not happy :hammer:
Gulbis played crappy, double faulted on break point multiple times.
That let Gasquet get a quick win and he managed another win against Monfils later in the day
He has to play Djokovic next though, who cruised past Ljubicic :uohs:
Cilic must still suck, losing handily to Seppi
Federer hit another tweener against Isner, and gets to play Seppi next, so things are looking good for him before Soderling/Ferrer/Djokovic.
Berdych is apparently sick, Garcia-Lopez might have a good chance if he hasnt gotten over it yet.

couldn't agree more.

30 winners and 9 unforced errors ? c'mon...

next, seppi, the italian ranked 58, who's 0-6 against Roger, 0-13 in sets.

should be a walk in the park for Roger :D

Federer embroiled in IMG ******** lawsuit

Sounds like :bs: though
Or vague at best. What is this 'insider information supposed to be?
It shouldnt be a crime to say, "I'm going to win this match" or something like that.
