He has no really need to play so much tennis from Jan - Jun. It leaves him unable to do anything from Jun - Dec.

wrong, titsrock.

he has to.

this is why:

in 2009, he won the Australian Open (that's 2000 points), made the final in Rotterdam (that's 350 points), won Indian Wells (1000 points), won MonteCarlo (1000), Barcelona (500), Rome (1000) and final in Madrid (600).

that's the amazing amount of 6450 points! (he currently has 9,205 points, so... he REALLY needs to defend a lot of those points)

But if he wins 2 or more Grand Slams won't most consider him the #1 player irregardless of his points?

What's wrong with him trying to plan an entire year around winning all the majors?

well, actually that's an interesting talk.

if you remember, in the final stage of Pete Sampras' career, he was like that: focus (almost) ONLY in the slams.

some people say it's good, some say it's bad. the truth is that, in terms of money and prestige, you have to earn solid points across the entire year. it's the way it is.

and, IMO, Nadal isn't in position of do what you told. not yet, at least.

what i think he should do, is focus in Slams AND Masters 1000. fuck the ATP 250 and 500. Unfortunately, the ATP is not dumb: make mandatory a lot of 500 tournaments, in order to avoid precisely that.

tennis revolution, anyone ?
nah. it's BIG BUCKS everywhere.

It's Big Bucks....Nadal has no loyalty to American events. I'm sure they're really a hassle for him.

He and Federer have all the leverage. They can basically do what they want to irregardless of whatever mandatory appearances rules there are.

I think it would be wise for Nadal, now that he's entering his tennis prime, to focus only on the majors for 1 year. Give it a shot in his prime!

He can pile up all his major wins now and then coast later and play the Big Bucks Tour Events...

I know it's a mercenary attitude, but hey....he's the man! ;)

i strongly disagree. He already peaked, IMO.

i mean, 4 straight roland garros, 1 wimbledon (over Federer!) and 1 australian?? there's not much left in him, i think.
Add BOTH of his hurted knees. And the abdominal pain. And the back pain.... those big, high and long topspins aren't free, you know?

In fact, my bet is: 2 more roland garros, and 1 US Open (he got to win it!). No more. Maybe an extra roland garros, but that's it.

And don't get me wrong... i love watching Nadal play, he's a truly warrior (read my previous posts), a neverending battle, a hardcore fight... but i can see the signs, you know?

you're a fanadal, right ? :thefinger

Historically speaking--male tennis champions' peak years are 22 - 26. After 26, the fall comes quick.

Federer is winning on borrowed time...

I agree that Nadal's body has absorbed punishment, but his body is still in its prime in terms of muscle fatigue recovery, injury recovery, etc.

I am a fan of Nadal. I certainly appreciate Federer's play. There is something mesmerizing about Nadal.

Having said this...and having seen athlete/doping scandals in every other sport by American athletes and European athletes....why do we assume Nadal is truly "clean"?

I guess I've completely become jaded to the authenticity of pro athletes. :dunno:

But, I still like my strategy for Nadal. Just dedicate 2010 to the majors and see what happens.

The Williams sisters basically only show up for the majors and they've done that for years...

French player Richard Gasquet has ben cleared of all charges concerning his positive test to cocaïne on late March.

Gasquet freed of doping offence

French tennis player Richard Gasquet, who tested positive for cocaine earlier this year, was freed of any doping offence by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
CAS said it accepted Gasquet's argument that he was inadvertently contaminated after kissing a woman in a Miami nightclub on the day before the test.

The tribunal supported his story and felt that because "no more than a grain of salt" was recorded in the sample, a long ban would have been an injustice.

"The panel based its ruling on the evidence provided by the experts called by both the player and the ITF, who agreed that the amount of cocaine metabolite was so minute that it must have reflected incidental exposure, rather than use in the amounts commonly taken by social users of cocaine," said CAS.

"I am totally relieved. I went through a nightmare for eight months," said Gasquet."I am happy to be 100% cleared. It was very difficult for me, I'm glad it's over.

He added "Mentally, it was very tough. I could have done without all this but now I'm happy to be back on the tennis courts. My goal is to make it back into the top 10."

Another reason to justify his Greatest of All Time title

damn! i've never saw it that way... but now that you mention it, IT'S COMPLETELY FEASIBLE, man!

it would be a shame... and disappointing for everybody...
