Does anyone know if America won the first round against Columbia?

That seems harsh on Roddick.
There is only a small number of Americans who have played in the Davis Cup more years than he has(Agassi, Ashe, McEnroe, Smith & Tilden), and he only pulled out this year to preserve his body.

couldn't agree more.

If you're a north american, you don't wanna hate A-Rod.

He's as patriotic as it gets, and he's everything but an selfish sob.

Where does Rafael Nadal's season rank?

http://espn.go.com/sports/tennis/bl...d/5563880/where-does-rafael-nadal-season-rank

1. Rod Laver, 1969
2. Jimmy Connors, 1974
3. Roger Federer, 2006
4. Rafael Nadal, 2010
5. Roger Federer, 2007

i'd put roger'06 above Connors'74, 'cause he made the French final.

Do you think he really has to "preserve" his body, or is it something else? I don't know. :dunno: I love Roddick more than anyone, but I have to wonder where his heart is sometimes. I think Wimbeldon still haunts him (damn you Feds!).

He is 28, getting old by mens tennis standards. With his knee in 2009, not to mention mono this year, its getting more important for him to allow for a decent amount of recovery time between matches.
Who else pulled out of the Davis Cup this year? Roger Federer. Its not like Switzerland couldnt use his help either - http://worldradio.ch/wrs/news/wrsnews/kazakhstan-pound-switzerland-in-davis-cup.shtml?20907
At 29, he needs recovery time too, plus he has kids now which he would want to spend time with.

Look at the dates for some of these ties - http://www.daviscup.com/results/
QF's are about a week after Wimbledon finishes, SF's less than a week after the US Open finishes. Maybe less important, but the Final would be a couple of weeks after the World Tour Finals, which he has qualified for 5 times. Being a perennial top 10 guy up until now, he would give himself a good chance of making them again.

Lets say he doesnt care about Davis Cup anymore. Even then, his résumé shows that he has been one of its most loyal participants in the American history of the event.
Maybe its time to say...

exactly.

i would love a Davis Cup every three/four years, just like FIFA's. That would add a lot of mysticism to it. :2 cents:

Sampras: Nadal can overtake Federer :dunno:

of course he can!

if his knees can stay healthy, he can make 3 more french opens, 2 more wimbledons, another in Oz and another in NY. That's 16 and tie Roger.

unless, of course, Delpo returns in good shape, improve his game a little bit further, and step into the conversation.

VAMOS DELPO!

...and that is if Roger doesnt win any more slams at all, so its a long way away still.

Not sure how well he will play so early into his comeback, but if Delpo beats Rochus and Kukushkin/(Qualifier) he will meet Nadal in the QF of the Thailand Open.

Either way, VAMOS!

Delpo Watch: Day 37.

He lost to Rochus in Bangkok, 7-6, 6-4.

Still finding his game again after a long layoff. Might want to play in some more smaller tournaments to regain form early next year. Say, the Heineken Open again?

no worries there mate. Why? 'cause he said his wrist was "perfect".
And THAT'S what matters. ;)

he's going to Tokio next week, then Shanghai, then Vienna, then Valencia, then Paris.

Nice schedule to warm up for Oz.
This christmas is going to be a big-ass-hard-as-hell training for him...

VAMOS DELPO!

Federer still the best: Soderling

http://www.tennistalk.com/en/news/20100926/Federer_still_the_best_in_the_game_for_rival_Soderling

this is a surprise... sort of.

the swedish assassin talking well of his opponents? 'cmon... that's not his style.
He's more like "i don't care who's in front, i just gonna hit as hard as i can. period"

oh, he's right, by the way

Del Potro was moving slowly apparently, its probably lack of match fitness though.

Soderling talks well of others like most players I thought :dunno:
His favourite line, 'I have to play well'.

http://www.tennistalk.com/en/previews/20100402/Berdych,_Soderling_square_off_for_place_in_final
"He's a great player," Soderling said of Berdych. "He played really well now in the past couple of weeks. Now here he beat Roger and Fernando. So he's definitely in good form. I really have to play well."

http://www.menstennisblog.info/2010/06/rafael-nadal-vs-robin-soderling-at.html
"I think you have to do everything well to beat him," Soderling said. "He's such a great player and he moves so well and has a great offensive game and also a great defensive game. I have to play my own game and take the initiative pretty early in the points and serve well. He's the world No.1. So I have to play well. I think if I can do that, I have a decent chance."

He wouldnt want to say Federer was no good after what happened at the US Open :o
