2010 Tennis Thread (Grand Slams, ATP World Tour, Davis Cup)

definitely NOT.

I mean, he's already 23 (same as Rafa and Nole, older than Delpo...) and he has ONLY 2 titles. That is unaceptable for someone that want to win a major.

He has no grand slam finals and only 1 in Masters 1000. Hell, he only has 1 grand slam SF.

Also, he's mentally weak. I remember last year the R16 US Open: Monfils won the first set in an spectacular tie-break, got the momentum, and then, he cracked 3-1-3. And Rafa had abs problems at that time...
Something like it in 2008 Roland Garros SF against Roger: he won the 2nd set, but then cracked down.
And above all: he has lost 7 of his 9 career finals! what does that tell you ??? oponents too good? let's see: Monaco, Petzschner, Almagro... hmmmm

so, to all of you Monfils fans out there: he's tough and all, but he won't be remembered as a great one

:2 cents:

And correct me if I'm wrong, but he has a terrible record against Roddick.

Huh, saw a little bit of that Jankovic/(I forgot her name, she's from Estonia) match, and wow...no moaning and groaning, that was a nice surprise. But in the end it's still women's tennis, which means totally obsolete.

Tell me about it. That grunting stuff gets out of control with the women, and even the men sometimes get annoying.

Roddick 3 - 4 Monfils

let's see other notable ones:

Djokovic 4 - 0 Monfils
Federer 5 - 0 Monfils
Nadal 6 - 1 Monfils

not too good, right ?

I thought Roddick had a better record against him. Well, at least France has Tsonga.

Mardy Fish got crazy solid groundstrokes. Dude is such a 5 set player as well. seems like he is always in a long battle in some major. He could be a sleeper to get deep into the French if he pulls this one out against Ljubicic.

but sadly for the north-americans, he just lose 10-8 in the fifth.
damn! 4 hours and 40 minutes!!!

good for Mardy. and good for Ivan as well. Now he will face brazilian hope Bellucci. That's a good match to watch

Defending Champion, Kuznetsova, lost in 3rd round of Roland Garros against Maria Kirilenko.

No surprises there, 'cause Kuzzie was playing horrible for a long time now, and Maria is in the rising tide...

You want to see dominance. Wait until Nadal punishes Hewitt...

That will be ugly. Nadal is playing on another level right now from everyone else....:thefinger

Com'ooooooooooooooon Ginepri. Last Yanker standing.

Roddick's wife shows up yesterday and he puts up a big bomb. Must've had a wild night last night when she got into town. Must have banged her for 2 hours straight as bad as he played today. Don't mix business w/pleasure. That sex can be a drainer...

Ferrer and Ferrero out on the same day, suprising huh?
Some people thought Ferrer could win the tournament, but he lost in straight sets :hammer:
There are as many Americans left as Frenchmen now, only Tsonga remains with Ginepri.
Quite a few French players lost to players ranked below them, no home court advantage here :dunno:

I think for this round...
Federer def. Wawrinka - obvy
Soderling def. Cilic - The Sod is playing pretty well, Cilic aint great on clay yet
Murray def. Berdych - I guess, not sure. He should probably win though
Tsonga def. Youzhny - Tsonga hasnt been consistent but can still win
Melzer def. Gabashvili - First time past the 2nd round in a GS for Gabashvili, end of the road now though :angels:
Djokovic def. Ginepri - He should win, although you cant depend on Novak much :helpme:
Verdasco def. Almagro - Verdasco cant beat higher ranked players, but he can beat lower ranked ones
Nadal def. Belluci - obvy
