The 2011 MLB Thread

I've said this many times about the Twins yet every year they manage to be in contention for the division crown.

They have arguably the best manager in the bigs. I'm not waving the white flag yet but the start so far is disconcerting.

ESPN just reported that Nathan will be moving into a setup role while Matt Capps will become the new closer

I know the Twin's long term plan for Mauer is for him to be moved to either first base or DH which would preserve his body from all the wear and tear that comes along from catching but they already have an All-star 1B in Morneau so I guess DH is eventually where he'll be heading.

Those two bafoons have already lost 3 games single handedly. I'm certainly not impressed with Capps....at all. As far as talk about moving Mauer around, I've not heard it, and I watch damn near every game. Considering he could have went into the NFL and that he was all state in three sports in high school, if anyone can do it on sheer athletic ability, It's got to be Mauer.

That's pretty much been my assumption since he was in the high minors. Although it'd probably decrease his value somewhat, I think the Twins would be wise to move him there sooner, rather than later.

Again, I've not heard any of this, but I don't disagree with your statement. 23 million dollars a year can't go to waste - not a small market club like the Twins.

Perhaps I should have been clearer. The general consensus outside of Minnesota (specifically the scouting reports on him all the way back to AA) have questioned his ability to stick there, primarily because he's never been a terribly good defensive catcher anyway.

Mauer just signed an eight-year, $184 million contract. He's a huge part of this franchise's future so the Twins must have a long term plan on where they plan to move him to.

Tigers' ace Justin Verlander throws a no-no today. It's the second one this year.

Also, I wanted to correct my post above. Liriano only walked 6 durring his, not 9.

OMG what's wrong with the universe? My Pittsburgh Pirates had a chance to reach .500 at the latest point in the season since 2005.....which the script would logically dictate would result in my Pirates losing. Welllllll, they took a 2-0 lead against the Astros into the 7th inning & of course blew it by giving up 3 in the top of the 7th. Keeping to the script....my Pirates gave up an additional run in the top of the 8th to trail 4-2. THEN, for some inexplicable reason THEY went off script! In the bottom of the 8th, Ryan Doumit hit a 3 run home run to put the Pirates back on top 5-4.....AND they actually held on!!!! The Pittsburgh Pirates are at .500 on May 8th!!!! Wooo Hoooo!

Hey, when you are a Pirates fan, you take any reason to "celebrate" when it presents itself! Ha ha ha!

Just think a long long...long time ago they were a pretty great team. :D Of course as a Cubs fan I should remember the saying about people that live in glass houses. :1orglaugh

Yeah....I remember those days quite vividly. I was actually at Three Rivers Stadium for game 5 of the NLCS against the Braves in 1992. Little did I know that that would actually be the last time Pittsburgh hosted a playoff game of any kind.....AND that would be the last winning season that the Pirates would have to date! For the record, I wasn't even legal drinking age yet at the time! So yeah.....A LONG LONG TIME!!! Ha ha ha!

But, if anything, I am loyal to a fault! The Pirates are, and always will be my team!

And yeah, I can imagine being a Cubs fan can be tough too! Maybe not quite as tough....but yeah! Ha ha ha!

The best thing happening for baseball is right now with the Pirates,Indians,Nationals and Royals being competitive or even division leading, if they can hold onto these spots come the all-star break it will even be better.

Snowing last week in Minnesota, heat index of 93 today (the first 80 or 90 of the year) and now, today, the game is delayed due to golf ball-sized hail. Whatchoo know 'bout Minnesota weather suckas?
