Will Frank McCourt Take the Los Angeles Dodgers into Bankruptcy?

Given that Bankruptcy courts don’t have to yield to MLB rules, this strategy is becoming more and more of a realistic possibility as it appears to be Frank McCourt’s only option to regain control of the Dodgers. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that MLB is now preparing for the fact that McCourt might take the Dodgers into bankruptcy court before the league could strip him of the team.

It would appear that from McCourt’s standpoint, this would certainly be a valid strategy to maintain control of the club as Bankruptcy could provide McCourt with both the authority and funding to remain in control of the Dodgers. It won’t be easy however because in court, he would not only have Major League Baseball opposing him, but almost certainly his ex-wife as well.

This situation has gotten way out of control and this franchise is going to suffer both on and off the field, there’s no way around it. I don’t understand two things here; particularly since what we supposedly have here is two savvy business entities, the McCourt enterprise and MLB. 1) Didn’t MLB think about this before they tried to strip McCourt of his team? 2) Why didn’t McCourt do this the very moment Bud Selig and MLB intervened?

What a sad, depressing state of affairs.
Been a Dodger fan since the 1960s.
I think I've watched 6 games this year, and I doubt I'll watch any more.
In the past Dodger attendance has been good even in down years, but this year the stadium has the feel of a mausoleum.

Sadly McCourt doesn't realize that the fans are voting with their Dollars by not attending.

i loved KC taking 2of 3 from the Yankees this week

Boy, the Twins are the jockstrap of the league this year, aren't they...

This is just a painful team to watch, particularly the last week or so. Fucking Capps is the most overpaid bum on the planet. Seriously.

This really could be the beginning of the end of an era. So many good ball clubs over the last 10 years and.....

OMG, Hell just froze over! It's almost mid-June, and my Pittsburgh Pirates are back at the .500 mark. If that's not enough...they could have easily lost tonight, which in the past they certainly would have...BUT, they actually came back in extra innings, and went on to win to hit that magical mark! AMAZING!!!! Hey, like I said before, to a long suffering Pirates fan, this IS winning the World Series! Ha ha ha!

Twins are 6-1 in their last 7. What happens when they get future HOFers Thome and Mauer back, in addition to team leader last year in HRs in Kubel and their prospect Nishioka? Watch for them...

Liriano pitched a no hitter through 7 today enroute to a 6-1 win. Twins have now won 9 of a 11. Still no Nishioka, Thome, or Mauer, and Morneau has been out the last few games.

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
Lost 11 of last 13. No pitching and no hitting. Typical.

Well, there's always next year. :)

Ouch! My Redbirds just got swept by a surging Brewers squad up at Miller Park. Still, we're only 1/2 game out and it's mid-June so no need to panic yet. I am worried about our pitching holding up however. How long can Lohse, Westbrook and McClellan keep it up? If I told you that the Cardinals would lose Adam Wainwright for the season and that Chris Carpenter would be 1-6 on June 13, where would you guess they would be in the standings? :dunno:

Interesting possibility for realignment that would have the Astros move from the NL Central to the AL West.

Personally, I'd love to see it. As a longtime Houston resident but a lifelong Cardinal fan, I have always hated the Astros since they play in the same league and are division rivals of St. Louis. However, I think I could possibly learn to root for them if they were relocated to the AL West.

My White Sox are set to play the Twins tomorrow. I don't care what the Twins record is, they have always been a thorn in the Sox's side.

Generally the entire Central over the last 10 or so years has been given fits by the Twinks.

I believe Mauer might be coming back this series. Don't know about Kubel, Morneau or Thome.

Baseball realignment will happen when pigs fly. they promised to help Oakland get a better stadium and we are on year 4 of waiting for a recommendation from BaseBall so i figure realignment should take 25 + years to figure out.

Holy shit. The Twins today in IL play started the game off 8 for 8 and 9 for 10 against the Giants:

The effects of the Buster Possey-Scott Cousins collison are now in...

Both teams are in a swan dive, with the Marlins being in worse shape. Luckily for the Giants, the Diamondbacks and Rockies haven't caught them yet.

Two time Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum and no-hit pitcher Jonathan Sanchez suddenly can't seem to get the ball over. Madison Baumgartner pitched terribly tonight and was shelled.

Twins 8 Giants 0 bottom of 2nd inning.

I can't wait for Barry Zito to get back. Ugh. :( Ryan Vogelberg has been up and down all season. -- The only consistent pitcher they have now is Matt Cain.

The Giants definitely miss Buster's bat more than anything!! :(

The Giants ran into the hottest team on the planet tonight. First time in over 20 years a team's first 8 batters hit and score. (last time was Yanks in '90.) They go to 15 and 2 in their last 17 after the W tonight - 6 and a half back of the Indians. :hatsoff:

I actually had that Madison Bumgarner start for one of my fantasy teams.

Similar to what the Phillies did to the Cardinals bullpen...actually more accurate to say what the bullpen did to themselves. First 7 innings were great. Versus Roy Halladay the Cards managed to take a 2-1 lead. Then in the top of the 8th...
