Steve Bannon is the poster-child for the white supremacist movement (or, he was...there's been a number of faces jockying for that position in the last few months). Trump has installed Steve Bannon into the White House, supporting and elevating him in the process. I know you can draw the straight lines as well as any, but because you're dishonest, you refuse. Forgive me if the distinction has already been made, but I think it's an important one: Very few southerners may have had slaves, southern soldiers fewer still, but the powerful few sending them to war did. It isn't any different now - the wars in the Middle East may be fought by soldiers who are fighting to keep America safe, but those in power sending them there are fighting to make themselves and their military industrial friends rich.

Actually those southern "fire-eaters" were masterful propagandists. They even successfully conspired to split the democratic party in two such that Lincoln's election would be assured, thus garnering them overwhelming public support for secession. Secession, which would lead to greatly increased power and bank for them. But karma's a bitch, and in the end all their self serving machinations garnered them was complete ruin, once the experience of war turned Lincoln into the determined abolitionist he hadn't been previously. Oh the irony. And oh the tragedy for the common man who'd been so thoroughly duped.
