I don't think we are. Certainly at a time of low tolerance, but I think our best days always follow our darkest nights (Sorry Sorkin and others for stealing that).
At the risk of massive flaming - I think Trump was a good idea, but absolutely the wrong person to implement it.
The pendulum can't keep swinging to the left and Trump is a reaction to that. However, he is divisive in nature. So, if this is the pendulum swinging in reaction to Obama's 8 years, I think we'll see it swing back even further to the left.
That thought would actually support the idea of a civil war. So, would if we continue to swing the pendulum to the extremes.
We need to be able to define ourselves, protect ourselves, and care for ourselves. If the pendulum is not influences by an outside source, it will return to the center. Diversity is a positive, not a negative.

Gun confiscation legislation or a SCOTUS ruling severely limiting 2nd amendment rights or gun ownership would spark a civil war. Make no mistake about that. The impeachment and senate conviction of Trump would also spark a civil war.
It’s something that I would join and would be willing to die for.
