Because... why would I get a weird falafel when I can get a hot dog, chicken salad, cheeseburger, taco, sub, or slice of pizza? Falafels are just... bleh. My boyfriend is constantly trying to get me to try all these weird NY foods, and falafels have been one of them. I'm just like... "Why? How about that slice of pizza on the warmer next to it?"

I'd rather try something new, exotic, or "insert adjective describing something contemporary" if given the opportunity than fall back on boring standard fare like burgers, pizza, or hot dogs. Falafel isn't that weird a food when you consider other foreign consumptions, and there are just as many ways that you can dress it up as there are with chicken, beef, or anything else. I'm not begrudging your choice to have pizza over falafel, but it's really not any weirder than a hot dog is to somebody who isn't American.

Eh. Fair enough. I like my food simple since I'm so picky.

You're not alone. I used to be very picky with my culinary tastes when I was younger, my diet consisted of pizza, pasta, cereal, and dessert for the most part. Compounded with my body problems at the time, it didn't do me any good. Nowadays, I like to try most new foods when I can, I figure even if I don't like them after tasting them that I at least gave it the old college try.

I'm open to trying new things, but if those things consist of one of the many foods that I don't like already, I don't want to try them. I don't like cabbage, tomatoes, onions, avocados, pastrami, peppers, deli roast beef, deli turkey, pork, cilantro, swiss cheese, muenster cheese, goat cheese, feta cheese, ricotta cheese, brussel sprouts, cooked asparagus, kielbasa, macaroni salad, potato salad, chicken soup, most casseroles, etc. That rules a lot of things out for me to try.

You don't like goat cheese?? How is this possible? It's in my top 5 of fave foods.

or the tens of millions persecuted over religious disagreements who are still persecuted today as I write this.

By all means, I agree. I'm not a fan of the religious-based laws here in the US or the life-altering laws of many Muslim societies. All I'm saying is that making laws from a militant Atheist point of view proved to be just as bad, if not worse. I think the right approach would be for laws to not be attached to any particular religion, but also not fringe upon people's beliefs.

The only things there that I don't like (or am not that fond of but will still eat) are the Swiss, Muenster, goat, and Feta cheeses, and the different salads (I'm not a huge mayonnaise fan). On something like pizza though, you're eating tomatoes, onions, and peppers (although in sauce form as opposed to the whole fruit or vegetable), and some pizzas can come with cheeses other than Mozzarella or Provolone. You may be inadvertently consuming some of the foods you've listed and you're not aware of it. Even so, this isn't a gigantic list by any means, and there are still plenty of foods left for you to try.

If I had to give up every food except this list, I'd be grinning as I ate. Almost everything on this list is a favorite of mine, or just liked a lot...exception being Cilantro...if I never taste another whiff of that overused herb I will die content.

And Falafel is from Syria or Jordan, where Israel took it and made it the most popular street vendor food, whence it made it's way to New York where it has spread into the mainstream.
Like Gyros, or Souflaki, on street corners in Greek cities (and New York, of course), Falafel is a delicious and cheap food poor people and travelers learn to love. I am of course a former poor traveler morphed into a poor apt dweller...still love all that stuff to eat!

It's not a gigantic list because I didn't type out every single food or dish that I don't like. I could type out a pretty lengthy word document for you for foods that I don't like.
I'm perfectly aware that sauces and some things have bits of foods that I don't like. That's like telling a kid that ketchup is made from tomatoes but they don't like tomatoes. No shit. It tastes completely different than the actual thing, so there is a difference.
I'll be happy to type up the document of foods that I don't like if you're interested. There's a LOT. Eggs, mushrooms, lobster, oysters, clams (unless it's clam sauce on angel hair pasta with lots of garlic and parm), crab, relish, horseradish, squash, the only chicken I'll eat is the breast (white meat, no dark meat), cole slaw, chunky salsa, sweet potatoes, pico de gallo, sauerkraut, etc. And from all these things that I don't like, I could therefore name a plethora of dishes that I will not eat.

Ehh... sorry for derailing the thread.

You certainly don't have to type up a piece of literature that details things you can't stand if you don't want to, but I'd be interested to see it if you did. It's not of any major importance to me whether I know or not, so I'll leave it up to you.

I've never quite understood (though I know I've used it in the past) the argument "I don't like X but I like Y". My brother says that all the time; he doesn't like tomatoes, but he eats salsa, tomato sauce, ketchup, and has even tried tomato juice a couple times. A more accurate statement in my opinion would be "I don't like raw or cooked tomatoes, but I'll eat them when they're part of something else where I can't even taste them", you're not adverse to the food entirely, just the way it's served. That's my own beef though.

As far as I'm concerned, this thread was a Pandora's box. I haven't seen anything constructive arise from it so far, nor was I expecting anything. At least this discussion has brought some civility.

I understand it, because I'm the same way. However, I'm a bit picky with my choice of words, so I can make my choice or opinion known without contradicting myself.

Ehh... sorry for derailing the thread.

I for one, am not complaining. :)

Based on that analogy then Mariahxxx would do well for herself to holster her big dong (boisterous views as voiced in this thread) and stop trying to shove it down others throats in public. Again summed up as her own hypocrisy.

:dunno: Maybe. Don't know, don't really care. Haven't read her posts about it, don't really plan to. I just tossed that out there because it's a standard in any topic involving religion (honestly, for all I know it's already been posted, only reason I've ever clicked on this thread is because I've seen four or so names in the "Last Post By" field that caught my interest, and I've read a few posts by those names on the last few pages and I haven't and don't plan to trek back through all of the shit from either side).

You dislike quite a few foods that I love, I actually like everything you've posted. I don't like fruits in the melon family like cantaloupe and water melon because they're sickly sweet, I don't like organ meats because they're too oily and mineraly, I don't like beets because they taste like dirt, those are all I can think of. I like that you derailed this thread, it needed it. lol

I think my favorite sci-fi movie might actually be Blade Runner (though it's entirely possible I'm forgetting some other awesome movies, as I don't generally tend to spend time ranking things or choosing favorites). What's everyone else's?
