Obama seeks landslide but McCain predicts upset

DES MOINES, Iowa – Despite John McCain's prediction of an upset, Barack Obama reached for a landslide Friday, invading his rival's home state with TV ads and building a lead in early voting in key battlegrounds as the presidential race headed into a hectic final weekend.

McCain charged that Obama, bidding to become the first black president, "began his campaign in the liberal left lane of politics and has never left it. He's more liberal than a senator who calls himself a socialist," he added in Hanoverton, Ohio, a reference to Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont.

Yet with the economy almost certainly in a recession and the country clamoring for change after eight years of Republican rule, even some of McCain's allies conceded the obvious. California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said it would take a "major struggle for him to win" — although he quickly added the Arizona senator had come back before when he had been counted out.

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
I think it's funny when statements like this are made. "McCain predicts upset"...like, what do you want him to say?

"I think I'm going to get my ass handed to me. I am NOT looking forward to Tuesday!"

He was on ABC news quoting his people as saying he would narrow the gap by about 4 points, but that isn't enough to make a difference.

Hiliary 2020
I can't believe I'm home on halloween............

Oh the prediction, in any competition, both competiters predict victory.

McCain is still going on and on about Joe the Plumber in his speech in Virginia. That he deserves a business. the Americn Dream to hire employees. Doesn't everyone know Joe was a plant, a fake, or are there still two or three out there who missed that?

Of course McCain predicts upset.

But McCain needs to check the polls.

Obama has actually put Arizona into play. McCain will be campaigning in Arizona on Monday - ARIZONA!!

McCain needs to be campaigning in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida (all of which McCain can win and STILL lose the election), but instead, he's being forced to campaign in his home state.

Landslide.

Your right. When the republicans are forced to defend places like Georgia and even as you mention Arizona it spells an Obama LANDSLIDE in the making and a "MANDATE" for changes in policy.

If Obama saves the world, creates peace for all mankind, balances the budget and ends the war, Palin will run in 2012, with the backing of defense contractors adn big oil. That's the way it works. Someone comes in to clean up the extravagant party of the former powers adn then when things are good they come back on promises for even better.

Nah when McCain loses a lot of blame is going to be heaped on Palin.VP picks on losing tickets rarely are picked as their party's nominees next time round.Just ask Edwards or Liebermann or Quayle.I think Romney will be the front runner for pubs in 2012.Palin will barely be heard from again after next week.

Don't jinx it Friday. This country did vote for Bush twice:eek: So I'm not as confident right now.

Hopefully she will disappear, but McCain has created a freaking monster. She was "THE GREAT RIGHT HOPE" against that rock star/socialist Obama. I doubt if anyone will ever take her seriously as Prez/VP in the future ,but at worst she will be a big draw for the GOP & a good fundraiser. This election will tell us a lot about the people of this country.

I think Palin will try to get the republican nomination in 2012, but honestly I dont see her being a big factor. I think she has pissed too many republicans off, and the rest of the nation has watched her lack of knowledge on most key issues right before their eyes. Actually the only thing she is good at is attack politics, and fear tactics.

The ultimate choice about who runs as a candidate is who the republicans hope is also the most popular out of those who follow the party platform.

If they can send her to obedience school for four years maybe wearing one of those electric shock collars in public, she might behave with enough training in important issues, like rallying a wild crowd and ducking reporter questions while changing the subject. I always thought her choice showed the poor quality of candidates in the US and how real qualifications or integrity have little to do with it.

I'm continually appalled by McCain and think he was the lesser of a number of evils in waiting, but see just how low he sank in these past few months.

Years ago someone asked, "Why would anyone ever trust these guys that take every opportunity to slander and lie about their fellow countrymen"

This just proves neither of them knows what the outcome will be, and polls are just as useless as predictions.

When Obama started to kicked out reporters from any newspapers endorsed McCain from the plane, it showed Obama is no different than any other crooked, corrupted politicans. When Glamour, Jet and other tabloid newspapers like People can stay on the campaign plane and kicked out prominent newspaper reporters, it is worse than banning books in library !!

It is suppression of freedom of expression of news and the right to express by Obama camp.

The honeymoon with Obama will soon end.

Obama already selected his Jewish friend from North Chicago Congressional District as Chief of Staff. So are the PLO and the Palestinian people and the third world still enbraced Obama, DREAM ON , DREAM ON !

How are you going to fund Universal Health Care for 316 million people including 16 million illegals including Obama's aunt who went to his auguration as Illinois Senator, and was mentioned in his book and Obama went back home to meet with his aunt and brought Michelle along. Obama's aunt is living illegally in Boston on tax-money housing projects. Is she getting welfare check too ?[/

Yes, there was some problem with some journalist.

FRIDAY Tally Of Newspaper Endorsements -- Obama In Landslide, at 240-114 http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003875230

NEW YORK (Updated Friday) We're in the homestretch! And the Obama-Biden ticket maintains its strong lead in the race for daily newspaper endorsements. The Democratic team now leads by 240 to 114, a better than 2-1 margin and an even wider spread in the circulation of those papers -- see full tally below as of today. The circulation of the Obama-backing papers stands at over 21 million, compared with McCain's 7 million.

Obama's lopsided margin, including most of the major papers that have decided so far, is in stark contrast to John Kerry barely edging George W. Bush in endorsements in 2004 by 213 to 205. Obama, with 231, has already easily topped Kerry's number with many more yet to be tallied.

We've greatly added to the separate lopsided lists of weekly and college papers below. They are not counted in the 240-114 tally of dailies.

At least 50 papers have now switched to Obama from Bush in 2004, with just four flipping to McCain. In addition, several top papers that went for Bush in 2004 have now chosen not to endorse this year, the latest being the Indianapolis Star in key swing state Indiana.

The Chicago Tribune endorsed Obama--the first Democrat that it has backed in its long history. Three of the top five dailies in deep red state Texas switched from Bush to Obama this time.

As always, we include in brackets below who the paper went with in 2004 with B=Bush and K=Kerry. The >>> signals the latest additions.

(B) = Bush; (K) = Kerry; (N) = No Endorsement in 2004
