Yikes, the Blackhawks' performance yesterday was were incredibly underwhelming. There's nothing worse than getting a big group together to watch opening night and then not even see your team score until the 59th minute of the game. Well, at least we had beer.

Let's hope the offense (3rd in scoring last year) shows up tonight.

Really odd, the CBC online stream for Hockey Night in Canada is ALWAYS blacked out in the States. Tonight, for some strange reason, I am actually able to watch the Pens-Flames game online, right from the CBC site. I'm not complaining.....just surprised.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the performance of the Wild tonight. Well done all around, despite some minor rough-around-the-edges action. Backs looks like he wants again to be one of the elite 'tenders in the league. Heatley and Setoguchi got their first scores, and Koivu was everywhere (what a skater Koivu is). Cullen and Bouchard looked smooth as always.

The D-core is the biggest question mark, but they all played their asses off tonight. They could actually surprise some people this year.

Yes. Flames fans are the bane of my existence. Rod complained about Canucks fans last postseason but I think he knows deep down that Flames fans are the scum of the Earth.

This must be some insider, Western Canada thing I'm unaware of. Can any of you's explain to me why fans wear cowboy hats to their games? I understand the Calgary community is a farming community, but I still find it utterly disgusting and in poor taste to see country hats at a game of pro stick. It's not Dallas or Nashville, for chrysakes. I have to admit I detest country folk being a city boy but I never thought shitkickers were in Alberta of all places.

Calgary is hick, redneck central. Even the city cops wear cowboy hats as part of their uniform. I'm serious about that, it's not a joke, they really do.

To be honest, cowboy hats and cowboy culture is just as prevalent in Calgary as it is in places like Nashville and Dallas. The Calgary Stampede is held there every year and cowboys from all over the world come to compete in their hick sports (bullriding, chuckwagon racing, all that crap). To be fair, I went to the Stampede this past summer for the first time and it was a tonne of fun (mainly because there were tonnes of sexy girls wearing their sexy summer clothes).

Devan Dubnyk was terrific. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins potted his first career goal in his first career game (and his line with Taylor Hall and Ales Hemsky looked fantastic). James Neal for the Pens was a beast all night long (even though he didn't crack the score sheet). And there are going to be very few teams who can compete with the Oilers on the shootout. OILERS!!!

We need Whitney back pretty badly. Eberle needs to play with someone better then Belanger.

They looked disoriented in the first couple periods, IMO. Tons of speed and talent but a bit choppy yet. Sloppy a bit I suppose. I was surprised they got that tie goal to eventually get the W.

Thats 2 shut outs in a row for the Wings. By 2 different goaltenders. Very early in the season,but, I"m loving it. They better make hay now. Scedule gets BRUTAL after the 1st of the year.

Can (insert joke here) are clearly suffering from Stanley Cup hangover and were on a cross country road trip so..i'm not going to judge them right now.
