NFL '09/'10 Season Thread

Can't my 9ers get any love? I thought they played some great defense against the Colts and hung in tough against the best team in the NFL. But it turns out Peyton Manning just had a bad game. What was I thinking??

Considering the skills of their players and the quality of their teams it's probably more true than not.

The fact the Colts run defense looked like the bad ones they had in the past instead of the decent one it had the rest of the year didn't help them either.

Right now the way my Giants and Eli have looked the last 3 weeks it wouldn't be a good game.:weeping:

Giants need to win, they haven't been playing very well.
I love this team, as well. I should hope they can continue to still play well, and hopefully things will looked-up for them, and win.

The Giants running game has turned to shit and their secondary has been exposed. They won't make the playoffs.

Good point. But there were throws in that game (deep balls, out routes, crossing patterns) that Peyton could usually make in his sleep, yet a few a times, he wasn't even close. Even when he had enough time, he wasn't putting the ball where he normally does. He's one of the most accurate passers in the league, but he looked off his game yesterday. I will give the Niners credit for pressuring him. They made Peyton release the ball before he wanted to, and I think that affected him a little. I'd even go so far as to say that it led to a few of the errant throws yesterday. Your defense is better than people give it credit for. If they can keep those core guys together then look out in a couple of years. That will be one of the premiere defenses in the league.

I think Alex Smith managed the game well. I'm pulling for him because I think he's a hard worker and a great kid. Even when he lost his job, he didn't complain, and he didn't whine about being the backup. He practiced hard and waited for his turn. You have to respect that. I hope the 49ers do well this year and in the future. They have my all-time favorite player: Jerry Rice. He was my idol growing up. So even though I love my hometown team, a part of me will also always love the Niners.

So...at this point, what team stands above the others? New Orleans? Indy? Any team Brett Favre signs with?

I think at this point, the only teams that can say they are clearly better than the rest are New Orleans and Indianapolis. Minnesota has gotten by with an easy schedule so far, the Giants are choking, Philly is inconsistent and I think Denver is going to fall back down to Earth.

That's pretty much the state of play at the moment. I think New Orleans will have an incredible season but don't see them winning the superbowl. Love their defence but if they come up against a team with superbowl experience like Steelers, Pats or Colts, think they will choke.

The Giants running game has went down hill big time. Jacobs signed a big contract extension in the offseason and just doesn't seem to be running as hard. Bradshaw has been playing with a cracked bone in his foot. Then of course they lost Ward in the offseason. Their secondary was exposed by NO a few weeks ago and is really bad right now, but will get a boost when Aaron Ross returns in a few weeks. However, Kenny Phillips is out for the year and he was what held their secondary togather. Also, their front seven aren't helping the secondary out by getting to the QB like they have in the past couple years. As a Cowboy fan myself, I'm still not counting out the G-Men. They are a good team in a slump right now but I believe they will turn it around soon.

I don't buy the Favre hype. His meltdown is coming.....just wait.

My Naw 'Leans Saints are the best team in the NFL. The Colts are #2. The Pats are #3. I put my Cincy Bungles and Minny Vikings tied at #4. The Steelers are #5.

My Buccaneers are the only team who hasn't won a game yet, they might go 0-16. The only games they will have a chance of winning is Carolina or Seattle and they are both away.

I'm afraid to say that the Bears won't win more than six games by the end of this season; too many holes on defense, the o-line is still shaky, and the receivers still need some time to groom

Can't believe Tommie Harris just got booted from the game

You can't believe he did that or you can't believe he got ejected for it. If it's the later, when you punch somebody the refs pretty much have to disqualify you from the game.

Chicago's problem is that they got a decent quarterback three or four years too late. The defense is starting to get old and a lot of players that were elite or good before are either just good, gone to some other team, retired, or washed up or at least close to being washed up. The offensive line is one of the worst in the league. It might be their biggest problem and pretty much needs to be built up all over again and that will probably take years if they do it right. I don't think Forte was as good as he appeared last year. Basically Chicago has a decent quarterback, good tight ends, a good special teams squad, and some young receivers with promise, but almost nothing else anymore. It's almost the opposite of what it was like years ago.

Seeing the defense struggle is one of the most painful things as a fan of the team. It's a lot more than just Urlacher being injured to. The defensive line is getting to be almost as bas as the offensive line this year. Harris has just never the same after his injury a couple of years ago. Anderson never developed after a promising rookie season. In fact they have major problems getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks, especially with just the front four. Both corners fell way off on performance at once. Every since Mike Brown left the safety spot has been nothing to write home about.

The Bear's problems are just too numerous to fix in any easy way anymore. They had their window and didn't capitalize on it. While the trade was probably the right decision for Cutler it also mean Chicago even has less draft picks to help the fix it in that regard next year.

The way I see it,the Bears are fucked for the next few years. While they do there best drafting in later rounds usually, for the positions that they need the most help, you need solid first round picks for them. And even if you decide that you would rather stock up on 2nd and 3rd round picks, they don't have any 1st round picks to trade for those.Oh,and Lovie Smith ain't going anywhere either, which isnt' a good thing.

My thing is that while Cutler is a really good QB,the QB position wasn't the main issue with the Bears last season.Kyle Orton didn't give away any games last season, the defense and lack of play makers on the offense did. They didn't address the real problem of the Bears, they just swept it under the rug and dangled Jay Cutler in front of everyone's face like he was supposed to be the savior of the franchise. But now the fans are pissed because they know that just having Cutler and no one else ain't gonna win you shit.

I would be shocked if the Bears won more than 8 games this season.Plain and simple, this team sucks. Not Browns,Raiders,or Chiefs suck, but really not all that far ahead of them.

The first thing you said - what Tommie Harris did was completely classless.

I gotta agree with Zell. The Bears fucking SUCK! Both lines are bad, and the secondary looks horrible, but I think that is more scheme than personnel.

Hey Lovie, The Tampa 2, or whatever you want to call it, doesn't work anymore. They have figured out how to beat it over and over and over. Its unbelievably frustrating watching teams convert on 3rd and 21 with a fucking 23 yard post inbetween the corners and safties! WTF?!
