NFL '09/'10 Season Thread

Hey, at least the Rams held Peyton to "only" 235 yards passing . . .

*sigh*

Just got done watching the Vikings vs. Steelers. Its looks like the old Brett Favre arrived for this game. He had a pick six at a crucial moment (not to mention a fumble a an almost equally important moment earlier) when they could have went ahead or tied in the last seconds of the game. That's the Brett the Packers and Jets remember.

The earlier fumble was legitimately Favre's fault - holding onto to the ball, trying "to create something" with the pocket collapsing around him - but, let's not be to quick to pile onto Farve for that "pick six". It was a little screen pass that deflected off both of Chester Taylor's hands, and the ball deflected directly into the hands of a Steeler defender. It wasn't like he was trying to force the ball into heavy coverage.

I'd consider that interception 80-90%% Favre's fault. The play broke down, it wasn't forth down or anything, there was still a good amount of time on the clock considering how close they were to their opponents end zone, and he should have known better than to throw it. After he decided to throw it he made a squirrelly hard to catch ball that while it might have been in the realm of possibility for Taylor to pull it in, it would have required a very good catch with extraordinary effort to pull it off.

I hope my favorite teams: Indianapolis Colts, and New York Giants,
continue to win!

I love Eli Manning and Payton Manning!

It definitely was NOT a "play break down". It was a designed screen play or dump off, which usually take time to develop - and it really didn't take that much time to develop. The throw was a little high, because of the Defense rushing the throw a little. But the ball did hit Taylor in the hands. The play probably wouldn't have gained much if anything, but I don't think Favre can be blamed for that specific play. I'ld say 50/50 blame on Taylor vs. great D and the more I think about it maybe 75% credit to the D.

Favre's gotten a massive amount of criticism (justifiable) over the retirement/un-retirement BS and everybody's sick of all the Media hype / love / fawning / circle-jerk over Favre (not his fault imo). Because of that, everybody's quick to jump on his case over anything to the point of irrationality. And I'm getting pretty damn sick of that, too.

It wasn't Favre's "fault" they lost the game. The Steelers are a great team with a great Defense (welcome back Polamalu). Steelers beat the Vikings 27-17. It was the Vikings first loss of the season. They're still one of the 3 best teams in the NFC. :2 cents:

Even the announcers said it was Chester's fault, I mean the ball did hit BOTH his hands

Having really enjoyed watching the game in my home city London yesterday, I was wondering what NFL fans and particularly Americans would feel about hosting a few more games outside of America.

As a fan I have no problem with it.But I think I have heard the players on the teams who travel to the UK for the games hate the idea and the long distance travel. Heard yesterday that they they are thinking of selecting a particular team to be one that always makes the trip so that the fans there can start to build up a loyalty to one team.I bet that one team will really cry foul if that happens.

They play did break down. Favre got antsy and threw it too soon on a play that had no chance, and even if he would have waited he shouldn’t have thrown it to him at all. The only two realistic possibilities on that play are the guy would have been tackled for a loss or maybe no gain or something even worse would go wrong, which it did. If Favre doesn't try to make the play in the first place it has no chance of getting intercepted or something else going wrong. For that if nothing else at least half the blame goes to him for that play. Add in the substandard and quick throw that would have taken more than ordinary effort to catch with defenders coming in at the receiver and most of the rest of the blame for that play goes to Favre to.

While you're right that the blame for a loss doesn’t go entirely to him. (If the Vikings would have played better and got more points before or held the Steelers better they might not have ever been in that position.), but when one person is mostly is accountable for somewhere between a 14-28 point swing in a game do to giving up defensive touchdowns in a game that close they are a very substantial reason they lost that game.

I find it funny people are blaming Favre for the Vikings loss. This wan't typical Brett trying to force the ball when there's clearly no play to be made. He just overthrew a pass he makes 95% of the time.

I actually thought Favre played very well. You can tell he has a real command of that offense, and I was shocked when they didn't win that game. If there was ever a good loss in the NFL, that was it. The Vikings will be just fine.

well Washington season's headed towards super ugly in the next nine after the bye only the Raiders are a team we should beat. the other games are the
Falcons,Broncos,Cowboys,Eagles,Saints,Giants,Cowboys and Finally the Chargers. Our draft next year should be all o-line men, when all the Juniors are done declaring there will be lots of skill position undrafted free agents available on the cheap

Is somewhere outhere.
Yep.It's gonna be a hell of a long season and i'll be surprised if Zorn
stays next season too, because if he can't fix whats going on then
he should get punted as well.

What do you guys think about having games being played in the UK??

I think if they had one of their games in Scotland would be amazing.I
personally hope the Tartan Bowl happens :thefinger
