Uh, DJ - Teddy Bridgewater will be the QB to start the season..
As a Denver local (not native and only a fair weather fan of the team) I was surprised to see them pick him as the starter. It is like they are punting the future in return for trying to be mediocre at best in the near term.

Maybe they think he is the next Payton Manning?

Not for long. I love Teddy but he's got a pop-gun arm. He got the nod for experience, but when they start 1-3, and Sutton and Jeudy's downfield routes are being wasted because he can't hit them, I think you see the hook. Regardless of what you think about Watson, I was intrigued to see if he might be traded there. Those receivers need a gun.

7 days until the return of NFL Football so today we honor John Elway, quarterback for the Denver Broncos. Elway won NFL MVP in 1987 and is a two-time Super Bowl winner. He was named to both the NFL 1990s All-Decade Team and the 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.

Reading this, and it's not a surprise to me now:
Fangio Admits He Gravitated to Bridgewater
Maybe Drew looked good to fans, but it sounds like Fangio's mind was made up. Ball security weighing on the hotseat, I think Lock gives them the better chance to win. I wonder if he couldn't be a Tannehill or an Allen, someone that looks a lot better with the right coaching. They should trade him, they'd get good value right now.

Le’Veon Bell goes from holding out an entire season to maximize his value to the Ravens’ practice squad in two short years. Wow!

sj1: *if* it makes you feel any better, BAL signed Trenton Cannon to the actual roster:

Ravens signed RB Trenton Cannon.

The Ravens have suffered a number of brutal injuries at the running back position, starting with J.K. Dobbins tearing his ACL in the summer followed by Justice Hill going down with a torn Achilles' tendon. Ty'Son Williams is currently slated to back up Gus Edwards but Cannon could take a small piece of that role away. Cannon is a small speedster but only has 48 carries in three years of play. He figures to be a placeholder for Le'Veon Bell, who is currently getting up to speed while on Baltimore's practice squad.

Yes thank you from what I hear Trenton Cannon is known for being a good special teams player which I know this is where is value and impact would mean a lot. Special teams players may not get a lot of hype but they play an important role on any team.

It has been 214 days since a meaningful NFL football game was played. Today, the long, national nightmare known as the "Offseason" comes to an end. NFL football is back.

All teams will have some injuries but last year we lost a lot guys during the season and this year is crazy even before it starts. So now added yesterday was Devonta Freeman, today they are working on a deal for Latavius Murray. I did not like the pre draft trade of Orlando Brown to K.C. in exchange of a few Draft picks that were not much of a move up and to of all places K.C., I thought Jacksonville was interested I would rather see them then K.C. or another good team you have to play.
I hope the media treats Lamar Jackson fairly as he lost all the running backs that he ran the RPO plays with and that is tough to get 2 players to be aware of am I giving you ball or am I going to at the last second pull the ball out of your hands and hold on to it myself. The line is kind of make shift with a new guy at center where 2 or 3 guys last year were hiking the balls over Lamar's head, to his sides or some low hitting the field on the way. We are hurt at receiver 1st rd pick Rashod Bateman is on the IR for at least 4 games along with Duvernay, TE Boyle may miss a few games, coming back from injury last season.

Sadly, there won't be any more "Fitzmagic" for a good two months. "Hip subluxation" sounds painful.. // "A traumatic hip dislocation occurs when the head of the thighbone (femur) is forced out of its socket in the hip bone (pelvis)."

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Ryan Fitzpatrick (hip) is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

Fitzpatrick suffered a hip subluxation after getting slammed by a Chargers defensive lineman in Week 1. Washington head coach Ron Rivera has already made it clear that the team does not plan on signing a quarterback. That means Taylor Heinicke will draw the start for their Week 2 matchup against the Giants. Heinicke has an erratic arm but contributes on the ground. He has 12 career carries for 72 yards. His rushing output makes him a viable streaming option in Superflex leagues.

Oof. Since he's opting for rehab instead of surgery, and at 38-39 I'd be surprised if it's only eight weeks. The WFT can't catch a break.

Wow - Stephon Gilmore to the Panthers:

Panthers acquired CB Stephon Gilmore from the Patriots in exchange for a 2023 sixth-round pick.

The Patriots were going to release Gilmore on Wednesday but have instead found a willing trade partner. Carolina is going all in on its 3-1 start to season, adding 2019 DPOY Gilmore to its secondary after acquiring 2020 first-round CB C.J. Henderson from the Jaguars last week. Gilmore remains on the reserve/PUP list and will have to miss another two games, but the Panthers are poised to make a run at a playoff spot. Gilmore just turned 31 last month and joins Henderson, veterans A.J. Bouye and Rashaan Melvin, and fourth-year starter Donte Jackson in the revamped cornerback room in Carolina.

Love is in the Pittsburgh air:

Weddings have to be scheduled months in advance. Fangio said Pittsburgh hotels had their ballrooms and meeting rooms booked before the NFL released its schedule on May 12. Fangio said one or two other NFL teams have had the same problem finding hotels with available meeting rooms in Pittsburgh.

The NFL trade deadline is November 2nd. It is being reported that talks have been heating up regarding Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson and the team is expected to move him before the deadline. The Dolphins, Panthers and Eagles have been mentioned as possible trade partners.

I do not want the Panthers to mortgage their future (three first round picks are said to be the asking price) for Deshaun Watson. I think this would be a bad trade from a PR standpoint as well as a football one. No team will be successful without quality quarterback play but the asking price is too high.
