My thoughts on God

Yes, and the person in the foxhole still gets bombed, and the person on the table still dies, but that's god's will.

Whilst a Marine, I had this kid that used to work for me... he was an ardent atheist. Well, years later he was sent to Iraq.

He is no longer an atheist.

HOPE

I ultimately think humans believe in god and religion to have hope. Hope that they will make it through tough times. Hope that there is something after death. Is the hope real or simply perceived? I have no idea.

This thread makes me think of some lyrics by Maxi Jazz
"If there's a god, be aware I'm a man newly made. My son lies here and only of him am I afraid. As i gaze into that face I percieve that wich is true. I created him, and we created you".

Nowhere, in my recollection, is it written that religion is a 100 % cure all.

Here are my thoughts - Most people of the anti religious persuasion seem to assume that those who believe in a faith tend to be head over heels fundamentalists, well, to the contrary, at least in my parts. As far as Christian sect religions go, absolute, puritanical orthodoxy i.e. fundamentalism, are the rare exception in religious practice. Those who worship their religion with such dogmatic fervor are endangering themselves, IMO, as they tend to interpret their gospel in the literal sense. Bad ! :nono: Not Advised !

Thankfully, by the grace of God, a looser, more flexible interpretation of religion tends to make up the majoirity of the believers of faith. †

May Peace and Love be with you all, my divine brothers and sisters, forever and ever, Ah•med . . . . I mean "men" . . . I mean Amen !!!! †

Agreed. If any religion fervent or waterd down works for someone, all power to them.

to me god, most often, is an excuse to either act horribly in this world or to not fix the world. god's name is often given as the reason for horrid human behavior and the fact that heaven awaits gives people no incentive to fix the problems of this world.

That's how satanists think without the whole fear thing. They believe any feeling should be allowed to be act upon without any guilt. That's nice but that can easily be abused. I believe in a God without religion. I think there's something out there that make everything work and keep our hearts pumping and the world turning but I don't see the reason for having a book written by so many different people with different opinions control my thinking. BTW Deaxma is God! No I'm serious check her aka!

"Here we may reign secure, and in my choice
To reign is worth ambition though in Hell:
Better to reign in Hell, then serve in Heaven."

just a nod to the Milton fans out there.

"Superstition created all the gods and angels, all the devils and ghosts, all the witches, demons and goblins, gave us all the augurs, soothsayers and prophets, filled the heavens with signs and wonders, broke the chain of cause and effect, and wrote the history of man in miracles and lies."

I'll see your Milton with some Robert G. Ingersoll

so why does God let little kids die from cancer but save your life? does God like you better?

It wasn't God that saved my life. It was a higher power but not God, since there is none. Part of me says luck, but the other part says it was a well built Chevy.

To go one further on your question: Why does God allow little kids to die of cancer, but lets a fuckwad drunk driver walk away unhurt from an accident after he just killed 5 people? Now you tell me, does that sound like a noble and just god to you? That sounds like a bunch of bullshit in my book.

Yes, because there is no higher being or "god" in control. There can't be. As for a higher being... The world will never know. Just like how many licks does it take to make it to the center of the lollipop.

Drunk drivers walk away unhurt because they are more protected in the driver's seat. The same applies to train drivers. Why do wonderful pastors lose their family members? Why do good Christian folk get raped the moment they step through the door after returning home from Church? Why did Haralan Popov stand in a corner for 13 years, persecuted by Bulgarian Communists?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haralan_Popov

This does not mean, nor does it prove there is no God.

Jesus was the Son of God. Look what happened to Him. Did he stop believing? No. One day the Jews were shouting "Hosanna, Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the Lord."

The very next day they were yelling "Crucify Him!"

I know it is difficult to believe. It always has been. There is an enormous Universe out there with life that started chemically.

Maybe there is God. Maybe there is not. We wrestle with this because, I believe, there is a spark of the divine in all of us. "The fool has said in his heart there is no God."

Whatever the matter is - it is accepted as a matter of faith. It is also by Divine Revelation that one acknowledges the Divine One.

One cannot believe unless one asks in faith. "Unless you are as a little child you cannot see the kingdom of heaven." You will never, ever, believe, accept, reason your way into life eternal.

Whether there is another planet earth or a Jupiter or a star made of blue cheese somewhere in the Universe is not relevant to an understanding of God's will. What is His will? That you love one another as you love yourself.

So we blame God for everything. It would be easier to say, you know what? I repent. I believe. Let's worship God and put away our weapons of war. Let us use this little time we have on this infinitesimally small ball of earth and water, with huge resources for every living being, and lets enjoy our frelling life FOR ONCE and let everyone else enjoy their FRELLING life for once. for crying out aloud.

But noooooo.

As for the drunk driver and the little children. People are not given burdens they cannot handle. I refuse to believe God would abandon the parent in his/her time of grief. The parent may turn against God, but the Hound of Heaven will try over and over to reach and to comfort that person in their terrible loss.

I am not going to stop believeing in God Almighty - I hope and pray - just because some geezer scribbles down a few moments of thought in a library one day.

For f*+!%ks sake people, philosophers have written ideas down over the centuries. It is either for everyone to nod their heads in assent, or to examine what is written and throw it out as bunkum or at least think it sounded reasonable then.

The Bible tells there will be a huge falling away in these times. It talks of climate change. Of it being so hot people will gnaw at their own skin, while cursing God.

Is it God's fault now?

Well I see you a rare religious person here, even though you probably aren't that religious. The thing is religion is bullshit! straight up from the great George Carlin. Any rational person can see what all the different churches try to do. Why is it that churches aren't taxed? They def. should be. The point is that churches already have alot of money and don't you just hate when you hear the catholic church say we need to help the starving kids in africa when I am thinking why don't they just fucking sell all their historic articles at the churches?? Exactly.. My question is why can't there be a world without religion? Why can't we choose if there is a god or not by ourselves with bullshit brainwashing religion? Its really simple.

Actually some college students did find out how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop.
