English Premiership Thread 2010/11

It's funny you say that, when they had players like Viera, Kolo Touré and Gallas (when he was'nt falling out with someone) Arsenal were alot harder to break down. I thought the departure of Viera in particular, would severly affect the way Arsenal played because he was such a dominant player in the midfield.

In all fairness though some of the players may be 'pretty boys' but they can certainly walk the walk. I've been particularly impressed with Nasri so far this season and Chamakh looks a good prospect.

Anyone see this weeks games? We were awful in the first half against Arsenal. Second half was much better and I'm very pleased that what is pretty much our reserve team can give the likes of Arsenal a scare.

Disappointed to lose but considering 11 players are injured I was'nt expecting too much.

It seems like we play to the level of the competition. We put scares into the top clubs, but fail miserably against the teams we should beat.

And btw, what a crazy season. The team at the top of the table (Man United) has won just about half their games and won just 1 out of 7 away from home. Who knows where we'd be if were playing as well as we had the last few seasons.

No doubt they have skilled players and Nasri is having a great year but I think you need that balance of skill and players who will provide that toughness who will fight for the ball.

Speaking of it being a crazy season, Man Utd just got hammered (excuse the pun :p) by West Ham 4 - 0 in the Carling Cup!!!

Lets hope we can dish out a similar result against the noses tomorrow.

Don't worry Yumi it would have only frustrated you!

I watched the game on Sky. First half was end-to-end, blues then had a penalty that was rightly given and scored that. Blues then should have had a second but the linesman flagged offside, which because of the new offside rule became quite controversial especially as Gabby went up the other end and leveled with a hint of offside (not that i cared :D). In the second half Villa dominated but suffered from a problem we've had for some time in that the chances created were quite poor and there was nobody to finish. Then in the last 5 mins Zigic, who was attrocious all game, goes up the other end and via a lucky deflection scores the winner.

On the balance of play I would say we deserved to qualify but tbf to blues they took the chances when they came.

I was keeping tabs on the match online, obviously I'm disappointed. And I saw plenty of Zigic in La Liga. He is largely useless. If he were 6 inches shorter, he'd be playing for some club we've never heard of.

Do you think we can turn this thing around and get, say a top 6 or 8 finish in the league? Or is this season destined to be a throw away season, and hopefully with a full transfer season and a full offseason to prepare Houllier can bring in the guys he wants and have a good season next year?

Samir Nasri had another great game today scoring 2 goals for Arsenal. Both goals were great but that second goal was amazing. The movement, the touches, and the balance was awesome. Arsenal's defense sucks but they were able to hold on to get the win. The Gunners really miss Thomas Vermaelen.

another wonderfull chelsea peformance why is a 1-0 acceptable to maybe win ithought the jose mourhino days were over .we payed the price against everton . my main gripe is why does roman have to mess up the apple cart a month ago things were going wonderfull then wilkins got sacked played liverpool and the rest has been down hill every since . spurs next week lets see what happens

Chelsea have got to start performing quickly otherwise they might find themselves in trouble, the Spurs match next week might be a turning point for them.

Unfortunately mate this season is a write off for us but we knew this when O'neill left us in the lurch by quiting 5 days before the first game. In answer to your question I think we will improve but I'm not expecting the kind of heights we achieved in previous seasons.

The problem we now face is that the fans have come to expect better due to the taste of success we got from the previous manager, I hope our supporters can get behind the manager and the team because Houllier has'nt been given a fair chance yet. I think any manager would struggle with 12 first team players out so he needs alot more time but I have no doubt that we'l get better.

I agree, I think he deserves a full offseason. Now if we are struggling this time next year, then I'd imagine he'd be on his way out.

champions league draw tomorow 17/12/10 . 10.30 uk time cant wait should be good stuff

Less to do with your actual post but more of a general comment. I can't believe Abromavic got rid of Ray Wilkins. Chelsea hav'nt seemed the same without him, I'm amazed how different you look tbh.
