Belgian lawmakers pass burka ban

i dont know where you are from but i have lived in europe, you should know how other european people think about Belgians, lol

i dont know anybody recognized it but after G W Bush, world started to be more conservative, racist.... look at Arizona?
things r gonna be a little be though in the future for colored people...
so sad...

anybody remembers what belgians did in Africa in 16, 17, 18 and 19th centuries even early 20th?
they were not so friendly to those poor african people

Yes and they treated the People of Congo particularly badly (made fortunes from the resources of the country) right up until the 1950s. Karma has set in me thinks.

Whats the debate here?
You can't walk around in public with your face covered.
And I think its good that this law applies to everyone and appeasement is not happening here.
Many of you just have a problem with it because of the muslim/christian aspect of it, the aspect that youve created.
If a law was passed in Iran that western women couldn't wear skirts would you care?

Dude, they got ya.
Man'you need to get out in the real world more often and away from that rotten box.

You are just wrong in so many ways I'm not gonna elaborate on it.

The debate is WHY this law has been passed.
We have not created the muslim/christian aspect, according to the report in The Telegraph "Supporters said the law would help fight terrorism and grant rights to Muslim women."

You mean they'd have to run around in nothing but their panties? Well, hell yeah! As a matter of fact, I'm all for passing that law here! :nanner:

WTF does that have to do with the gov't banning the burka.

Let me guess a liberal excuse to weep for the colonial days which are long gone.:rolleyes:

In response to the link I will say it again though I've already said it twice: each to his own. If those women find the Burka so bothersome as the writer makes it seem, then let them take it out. Let them rebel!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure there are so many other issues that the Belgian government could spend time dealing with. Instead of trying to prove how "backwards" other's cultures are.

In response to meesterperfect: a country that prevents other people from being free attacking their religion (whether christian or budist or whatever) is never seen with good eyes. I at least will be against such measures, no matter which country comes up with them.

If Iran tells christian women to not wear skirts I'll be the first to say "fuck that", if Tibet decides that christians can't wear skirts I'll be the first to say "fuck that!". If my country decides that women shouldn't wear burqas as well, I'll yell "fuck that" too. I aim to be a reasonable man, always.

Yep, she hates the Burka & many of her comments are true. Its less of a why but a how. how will banning the Burka liberate these oppressed women?
I know I've asked this question many times but I'll keep on doing it until someone gives me an answer. . .

because burka is a tool of oppression. the women who wears it are alienated from the rest of the population and can not be integrated into the society. this will hold them back and keep them from being independent.

proverb: when in rome, do as the romans do.

I hope you noticed that the word "must" is not included in the well known proverb you just spoke of.

Now I think it's up to those women to decide whether they ought to follow it or not. Don't you?

there is nothing hot and exciting about covering up a woman, i don't mind these laws. Women shouldn't wear more clothes, better less clothes :) :).

often it is not their choice. either they are forced to wear it, or they risk social sanctions from their family.
