You do realize now that there is a ban on the burka, they really are going to be oppressed because a.) if it's their choice to wear it, they won't go out b.) if they're being forced to wear it, they won't be ALLOWED to go out.
So either way, they will never be integrated and they'll never reach the independance the government wants them to have.

it's supposed to be about assimulating into the culture, possibly learning the language. And saying to themselves "This is how it is done in this country". Heaven forbid thet have to give up anything (sarcasm).
I don't think it's illegal, at least in the U.S. to wear a burka due to the U.S.'s free expression doctrine. However, if the government has a compelling interest (Like a diver's license picture or something like that) they can make you take it off.
Personally, I think the whole "hiding women for their own good" thing is creepy, but you have the right to express yourself I think. At least in the U.S. =P.
Even though "Jolly Old England" hasn't passed many (if any) discriminatory laws lately, from what they did to the Irish, Indians, South Africans and how they f***ed up Iran, Iraq, Sri Lanka, Burma, Sudan etc. I think it is totally unfair to say that England is so very righteous and pious to other cultures.

It has been discerned upon them that it is the only way a woman shall live. I will go against the grain here and say I am betting no woman WANTS TO HIDE. It has been distilled upon them to do so. Why is it idiotic? Do you know the mind of all female muslims? & how will this ban allow them to "stand proud, speak loud" as you put it? If these women are forced to wear the Burka how will this law liberate them? Will the husbands & fathers who forced them to wear it suddenly allow them to walk around in public without it?!? Of course not, as has already been said, these women will become even more oppressed & not allowed to even leave their homes!

Well I wouldn't. & I care because it is a state acting like an idiot again, choosing the completely wrong tactic & it will only lead to further marginalisation of muslims & then more excuses for terrorist extremism. The government have shot themselves in the foot & just because it doesn't directly affect me doesn't mean I shouldn't care or be concerned. . .
