7.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Haiti

Terrible thing this quake.Especially tough on a country that is so poor. They need all the aid and support all can give.

On a political note,I heard Rush Limbaugh said something like "Obama cares more for Haitians then Americans".Would somebody please put a bullet in his head.:ak47:

Let's not forget that we have starving, destitute, and poverty stricken people in our own country. Other than that, this is a horrible thing that has happened there. While watching the news last night, it was estimated that up to 60% and possibly more of the buildings in Haiti are not built to code to lower cost and maximize cheap and unskilled labor.

Ditto what Bree said. I feel really badly for them. Glad that those that can are going to help.

Dude on youtube is a moron. One is an attack which didnt cause any casualities and would actually require some intelligence reports and perhaps waiting for investigative work whereas the other is a fucking humanitarian crisis.

I just saw a report that as of noon today, $4 million had been raised by text messaging alone. The $4 million represents more money than was raised using texts in all of 2009, according to someone from Verizon.

For those who prefer that their donations stay in their own country, that option is available on the Red Cross site as well. There are various relief funds... not just one.

Obama just said he plans on sending them $100,000,000 in aid.

.... and Beijing approved this loan ?

Seriously, mr pres. why not offer transportation / logistical services ? does this nation's generousity always have to be in the form of cash ? You're not gonna 3rd party these fundies back to ACORN huh ? Ya better not now !:nono: nobody is watching.

lol at the Beijing loan part.

Apparently they already got 4 million dollars by texting donations alone. Who knows what else and how much more. This country is going be better off, yet still poor somehow, than it was last week. $100,000,000, including the millions of dollars in other donations, is a crap load of money.

The money will most likely be squandered and we will hear stories about how the money is being misused or not used for its original intent once the whole sympathy emotional parade flies over.

I guess you haven't been watching the news, F. We're (and a lot of other nations) are already doing that. Unfortunately, these things aren't free and all require money.

The costs of all services should be logged on one very. t-r-a-n-s-p-a-r-e-n-t . :uhem: tab and costs of said services must NOT exceed 100 million dollars. Forget the cold cash ! No way Jose !

We The People demand accountability and transparency ! :nanner:

OK fair enough. I don't disagree. My point was that it takes money to fuel this rescue effort. I value my tax dollars just as much as you do but the same fiscal transparency should be a part of EVERY government expenditure (including the military) so I don't see why this rescue effort in particular causes you raise the red flag all of a sudden....there's the potential for government waste, graft, bribery and corruption in every dollar we pay in taxes, not just the ones headed to Haiti.

After reaching a better understanding of how the derivatives market system worked, I just believe that it's time for better reciprocity of accountability from hereon. ;)
Trust but Verify :hatsoff:

Enough on that

Blessings to all involved in this rescue & recovery effort.
These field rescue operators must have amazing courage !
I wouldn't take so well to handling all of the deceased en mass.
I'm a chicken !!

On a brighter note: I just bought stock in the Port au Prince Urban Development Co.

Well, with 124 million nine and change (rep dollars) I might too :D :p

The best thing that the Haitians could do after all is recovered is to roll out the gold carpet for the return of the wrongfully exiled Aristide.

what the fuck you lookin at?
Is it wrong that the only outcome from this I'm really interested in is the final death toll figures? :dunno:

Was the same way with the christmas tsunami. That topped a quarter million. Maybe I'm rooting for mother nature in a way. Cause honestly, this world could use a few million less people. If not more... This type of tragic event illustrates perfectly the awesome power of nature. And the fact that no matter how far we come with technology we will never be more powerful than nature!!!

Kinda puts you in your place.

Moving to a trailer in Fife, AL.
makes me wonder how LA or SF will handle a 9. something...the country will come to a complete halt. I know those buildings there are built to code, but so were the buildings in Kobe. They were built to withstand side to side motion, and the quake that hit was a back and forth (if you know what I mean). buildings thought to be "safe" were not

People, if you're going to give, be careful about how you do so. I don't mean to say don't be generous - I think you should be generous until it hurts. However, there are a lot of asshat cockholster bastard mother fuckers out there. The whole, "American Airlines is taking doctors and nurses to Haiti for free. Please call 212-697-9767. Spread the word" type of crap is a bunch of lies. And whoever started that crap, you're a waste of skin.

Look for long-established agencies with good percentages of money actually making it to the problem area. I have no ties to this agency, but they have something like less than 6% administrative costs (so 94 cents of every dollar gets spent in Haiti):

This is a monumental tragedy. I think there need be a response from those who are able to help. We need to help. These are my own thoughts, and you are welcome to have your own thoughts.

Except Pat Robertson. Everyone please poop in a water-tight box and mail it to him. He's spreading hate again.

There isn't a city in the world could withstand a 9. anything.
