Yea, mother nature is a fuckin cunt! Look what she did on christmas day 5 years ago...quarter million people snuffed out! decent population control method though!

What's the deal with earthquakes this week? 2 in California, now this one in Haiti. I heard on the local news that some seismologists think that we're gonna have a major one in California sometime in the next week.

Wow....3 whole responses to this thread so far! :wtf: What a compassionate and concerned bunch we have here on Freeones!!

Sad commentary on our tendency toward indifference regarding the suffering of others to whom we are not closely connected.... :(

classic. the rest of the world doesn't give a fuck. no matter if it's Haiti of USA (Katrina) or Indonesia.

if doesn't touch us, doesn't bother us.

it's the way it is. sadly.

I thought of saying something, but couldn't think of anything that didn't sound hollow or forced, so I thought it would be better to wait than make up something that was lame and made light of the people that are in a bad situation. Not that I don't feel bad, but there isn't much I can say other than, "I feel bad and it's a tragedy.".

Sadly this is pretty much true. Seems to be the way of the world now. But don't worry there will be a music festival to raise money for the Bono wallet soon!

But seriously I hope this doesn't turn out to be as bad as the news channels are predicting. This is catastrophic for Haiti:(

I'll support Haiti to come and collect the zoe pound gang in Miami, Florida and keep them there. And collect the illegals that are over here from that country.

Disasters hit all over the world by the weather and geological events. I'm not going to donate every time just because some country is hit by something that can't be avoided. If I am going to donate it will be because I know it will personally go to the person involved and on my terms.

I don't feel bad nor do I honestly feel I should give them any money.

If people care, so be it. That's them :hatsoff:

And if they are going to donate money. Fine. Just make sure the money is going to where it actually helps and not the government of Haiti.

Oh Wow that is tough for a country like that I pretty sure the U.s. will have some kind of relief plan or send down the Red Cross:dunno:

Supplies and flights are being put together now, both public and private efforts are underway.

If people want to donate, the Red Cross is usually a good, reputable way to go. I'm sure my local churches will put together something, but I usually go through the Red Cross when making donations for disasters.

Thanks for the info.

Sad for such a proud people who pulled off the only successful slave revolt in history. The estimates are already ranging from 100k to 500k people:crying:

I thought about giving to Wyclef Jeans 'Yele Haiti Foundation', but Red Cross may be the safest?

Others might be OK. I'm just most familiar with the Red Cross. When the Indian Ocean Tsunami hit in 2004, a large group of us were out of state working on a project and we went together to make a donation. Because we did it through the Red Cross, our company matched our donation. A lot of companies do that... something to check into.

Canada is sending a team to observe Haiti to see how we can help.

Because, you know... We don't want to and all.

No one is suggesting that you should feel obligated to donate money if you don't want to or are unable to. No problem with that. However, you need to be one stone-hearted and selfish SOB to not feel any compassion for the people who are suffering there right now. I'm sure glad you're not my next-door neighbor, dude.

I'd help you if you were my neighbor and we were on good grounds, and maybe even if bad grounds. Who knows. You're not my neighbor.

That doesn't nearly compare to me having to feel bad about something that happens all throughout the world.

I'm not going to dwell on something out of my control and let it get me down and all sad and crap just because someone was hit by a earthquake. Earthquakes happen all the time. There were earthquakes throughout 2009 and I didn't see anyone rushing on here asking to donate to those countries for help and relief.

I mean, if people want to help, go on ahead. Rey C brought up The Redcross donations and all that. I donated to Redcross earlier when I moved and got rid of a bunch of stuff I no longer used/needed. I help out in many other ways for people I personally involved with or know on a level that will actually get the help.

So don't tell me I wouldn't help out a neighbor just because I stated I'm not feeling anything towards Haiti and a earthquake that hit them. Or else I should be feeling bad for every country that should get hit by any kind of natural disaster and live my life as one big pity party and worry about others instead of taking care of myself and my family and friends, if need be, to worry about having ot worry about rest of the world.

Countries should be taking care of themselves and be thankful if another country should so help them out. Beyond that, don't expect a hand out just because something bad happens and sit around waiting.

You missed my point. You are dwelling on material things (like money, donations, real assistance, etc). I fully understand your take on not feeling compelled to contribute or help in any active manner. What bothers me is the fact that you made this statement in your OP:

"I don't feel bad nor do I honestly feel I should give them any money.

If people care, so be it. That's them"

Am I missing something here or could this have simply and easily been truncated to "Fuck 'em"?? If so, THAT'S why I wouldn't want you for a neighbor.

By the way, for those who DO care, early estimates put the potential death toll at a staggering 500,000 people:
