FSU was also without Karlos Williams and lost Eddie Goldman early in the game

Eddie Goldman is the 1 DT in my last post and he is easily a first round draft pick. The CFP gave Oregon a pass for losing Fisher against Arizona. Goldman basically won the Clemson game for us; the guy is 320 and can move like a 280lb DE.

Alabama definitely deserves to be number 1 - congrats smoknn :hatsoff:
Oregon not too far behind in second
FSU third only because they're undefeated
That leaves three teams all with very legitimate cases for being number 4. This is going to be ugly, and a good argument for expanding to an 8 team playoff. I've always thought 8 would be the ideal number if we went to a playoff system.

It'd be nice if they had at least one really impressive signature win this year to temper the doubters. But they don't.
But it appears they'll get their chance to win two more games, against top quality opponents. If they achieve that any doubts will be rightfully silenced.

FSU is the only undefeated team. The rest of the playoff teams have lost and do not deserve anything. FSU has had may injured players throughout the season, plus some underclassmen haven't stepped up.

No. 1 playoff team gets to pick their bowl game, I heard Herbstreit mention it during the FSU/GT game tonight

Bama vs the cocksuckers.....

If that ends up being your first matchup I really can't imagine you guys losing that game.

Well, obviously a whole lot of people disagree with you on that (including all three polls last week). But that's part of what makes this all so interesting.

CFP top 4:
Alabama
Oregon
TCU
Florida State

AP top 4:
Alabama
Florida State
Oregon
TCU

USA Coach's Poll top 4:
Alabama
Florida State
Oregon
TCU

But again, you may end up being right. If they're still undefeated two games from now then we can all  to FSU

You should bow to the champs. We got more first space AP votes than Alabama and they were just 4 points ahead of us last week. CFP is a joke, and they just making up stuff every week. They will not leave FSU out of the playoff. The Sports talking heads don't get fired when they are wrong, so I don't value most of their opinions.

they may be undefeated...but nc st, notre dame, louisville, miami...and ga tech is why they have no fingernails. as i said they about to find out how real they are.

Dude, FSU is still loaded in talent most of 2013 championship team members were soph. and juniors. We had many injuries during the season. Winston is easily the best QB in FSU history; the guy makes his own reads at the line of scrimmage, and he then makes adjustments.

We about find out how real are the 4 playoff teams because their is no great team this year.

I must second the congrats to smoker and his Tide....they were clearly the better team against Mizzou.

I'm not going to argue about the rankings however so we'll just wee how it plays out. Personally, I think Alabama and Oregon are the 2 best teams in the nation, FSU closely behind and then whoever else. Frankly, if Baylor gets screwed out of #4 (that's my prediction) it will be a travesty since I can't think of a more pertinent tiebreaker than head-to-head but I guess Condi and her friends are a lot smarter than me. Imagine a Super Bowl where the loser was given the Lombardi Trophy because some committee thought they were better. You are what your record says you are!

A couple of comments about the SEC Championship and Mizzou. Pinkel has done a fabulous job at Missouri but until or unless we get bigger on both the D-line and the O-line, we won't beat teams like Alabama. We could not run the ball against their front wall and the pass rush was not present often enough to be a significant factor (especially after Ray was ejected after his IDIOTIC penalty). 'Bama basically did they same thing to us that Auburn did last year by stretching the perimeter sprinkled with runs up the middle interspersed with well-timed vertical passes. It was a brilliant game plan that they carried out almost to perfection. Pinkel is a master at turning undersized linemen into prolific pass rushers. Now, he needs to get some hogs to put in there. The loss notwithstanding, our recruiting stock continues to rise when it can be said that we played for the SEC title 2 years running. Kudos to the Tide in the interim.

If I am not mistaken, the Big 12 bylaws state that, in the event of a tie, the winner of the head-to-head match-up would be declared the champion. That means Baylor should be the Big 12 champs.

If I am not mistaken, the committee would consider a conference champ before any other team from that conference. The committee thought TCU was better than Baylor all year.

Plus, it doesn't hurt that the four teams in are schools with some history. Baylor and TCU are looked upon like they are mid-majors (in the NCAA basketball sense). They are good, but not big name good.

No one should be surprised by the committee's choices. I was surprised FSU was third. I figured the committee would put Ohio State third for that true Rose Bowl experience.

i hate to be the i told you so ...but here is the deal....oregon ,bama, and fla st can not be denied. that only leaves one spot. bet the farm..ohio st will get the call. the big win over Wisconsin licked the stamp on that. not good for baylor or tcu...but maybe this will push for a 8 game next year. on the bright side...at least 4 teams will have a shot this year. unlike the years behind us. how bad would florida st be f-cked if 1 and 2 played for the NC end of. i can remember a year auburn was undefeated and got screwed ...not a auburn fan...but i bet that was painful. like ohio st or not..i got to hand it to them. 52 points with a 3rd string QB is pretty da-n impressive ............

Agree, Missouri has done itself proud transitioning to the SEC :hatsoff: (although why they are in the SEC east is still geographically baffling lol)

yep

I figured the committee would put Ohio State third for that true Rose Bowl experience.

I wish they had! I'd much rather face Ohio State.

My early guesses on the betting lines:
Alabama -13
Oregon -7

Nikkala made me do it!
ok i am going to say this and take a chance on getting a bomb dropped on my house. ( notice i am not saying anything) i am just saying. no one here or anyone i know is giving ohio st a chance. again i am not saying anything....just making a point. if somehow...ohio st should win the NC vegas would get fat. like most of you guys i cant see it happening. i mean it just dont look possible. if they beat bama then they have to beat oregon or fla st.. i hate it when it dont look possible................:suspicious:

Iowa vs. Tennessee in what used to be the Gator Bowl. Two kind of storied teams that get into a January bowl game that nobody outside of Iowa or Tennessee will watch. Fuck. Sometimes it pays to be mediocre. I'm not painting my face and screaming at the TV for this one. Wait. I've never painted my face outside of that one Halloween when I dressed as a Blue Man. It was pretty great.

a couple of early bowl predictions prior to knowing the matchups:

Duke has a solid team and hasn't been a relevant program long enough to have developed bowl game malaise. I expect them to play well whoever they play.
Arizona State played the most embarrassingly lifeless, listless, least motivated bowl game of any team last year. I would hope and expect they'll have learned a lesson from that.

was looking forward to betting both teams but as it turns out Duke and Arizona State are playing each other. so typical

So who's up for doing a bowl challenge again this year?

Rodger was kind enough to offer to host it again.

The only change we'd have to make is picking the championship game after all the initial picks, since obviously we can't know who'll be playing in it until the semis are over. But we'd have a week to do that, so it shouldn't be a big problem.
