before we are any further along. what team is in your crystal ball? (your words) a team dont get up to play nc st. some teams are not like oregon and show everything they have on a cupcake. a W is the main thing. pick your team NOW! and lets see who has the best crystal ball. i am riding the clemson horse so far till they show me different.

It's easy to pick someone like Clemson when they play such a pathetic schedule. I think it was like 3 years ago when they far and away had the best recruiting class in the country and the past 2 years have been bumper crops as well, but what have they done with that stacked stable? They have found a way to lose a game they should have easily won. Right now, there are only 2 teams left that should pose a challenge, Florida St. and South Carolina. Even if Clemson runs the board, I don't see them playing for the crystal ball if 2 other teams don't lose.

Ohio State - Although their schedule is worse, voters may push them ahead of Clemson. Going undefeated 2 years in a row and not playing for the NC would be bullshit.

Stanford - Right now, their game with Oregon is shaping up to be the game of the year. They are only the team that has been consistent against the Ducks and if they win and finish undefeated, they will pull into 2nd.

Florida State - Obviously, if they win at Clemson, they climb in the polls.

Miami - Their next 2 games are easy wins and then they play FSU. This will be their defining moment.

Texas A&M - If they win out, and others lose, there could be a groundswell for an unlikely scenario, a rematch with Bama. Their strength of schedule is better than Clemson's and a Bama / A&M matchup would be a better sell in the NC game.

You know Mack Brown's been game planning for OU for about 3 weeks. Probably why they almost lost to Iowa State.

OU is really not good at the QB position, which is unusual.

but......you never made your pick? i can give you 100 situations? i am saying when the smoke clears clemson plays for the nc. that is coming from a die hard crimson tide fan. and your pick is???

Greetings everyone.

Smoknn be careful with that Clemson Kool Aide :D We both know from long hard experience they will no doubt break your heart :1orglaugh

I've resisted posting to this thread so far this year for fear of jinxing The Ducks :1orglaugh
But after that pounding they gave UW (a very solid team) in Seattle last Saturday I'm seeing a BCS final appearance in their future, against Alabama.

Everybody else is playing for consolation prizes this year :D

Lots of hype here on the coast for UCLA (currently ranked in the top 10) but I don't think they'll even get past Stanford this week. And there's no way they're beating the Ducks in Eugene. I've been following the Bruins closely and while I see them stockpiling some promising young talent I see them as a year (and a tailback) away from becoming truly serious national contenders.

Loved seeing Kiffin get the boot :D Life is good when USC sucks :D Will be rooting for Dirk's Domers Saturday, the only game of the year when I DO root for The Irish :D

I have to agree with Bodie, Bama vs Oregon is the most likely situation, but as we all know, upsets happen.

Alabama - I only see 2 teams that could upset them, LSU or Auburn.
LSU - The only problem with LSU is Les Miles. Most of the time, he hovers between insane genius and/or insane jackass, but on rare occasions, he's just a complete moron. It's always entertaining to find out which personality shows up. We'll find out on November 9.
Auburn - The Tigers could upset them, but they have a better shot if they dump starting QB Nick Marshall and go with true freshman, Jeremy Johnson. Also, Auburn actually runs 2 offenses, the hurry-up offense and what I like to call the 45-offense, or better described as Let's see if we can score in under 45 seconds. This year, every time I've seen Auburn run that offense, they score. Malzahn should probably run that a lot more.

Oregon - Same here. I only see 2 teams that could upset the ducks, Stanford, or Oregon State.
Stanford - The Cardinals have a good defense and may be the only Pac-10 team that can slow them down.
Oregon State - Right now, Bodie is probably saying What The Fuck! to this comment, but here's why I say this: Rivalry games can be very unpredictable and more importantly, The Beavers have Sean Mannion. This begs the question, why in the world is everyone talking about Marcus Mariota for Heisman, and not Sean Mannion? In 6 games, Mariota has 1711 yards and 18 TD's, and Mannion has 2511 yards and 25 TD's. That game could turn into a real shootout!

And yes, both would have to go thru a Conference Championship game, Bama may end up playing Missouri and Oregon will probably play UCLA.

I don't see Oregon losing any games. They seem to be on a mission to get a National Championship since Auburn beat them in 2010.

Bama may have a tougher time, but should win out. I think Saban see's the handwriting on the wall. Too many rules broken and Yahoo Sports is calling for an investigation and campaigning for Mark Emeret and Derrick Crawford to both recuse themselves from that investigation due to allegations of past improprieties. Saban may realize this is his last hoorah before the hammer drops.

So true with rivalry games.
Mannion is a bonafide talent, but to achieve that passing yardage he's attempted 125 more passes than Mariota, against lesser competition (thus far). Plus Mariota is a threat running the ball, which Mannion is not. I do like the fact Manion's rate of INTs is well down from his previous two seasons.

yes, or Arizona State. Can't see either team beating Oregon, though (boy am I jinxing The Ducks big time, or what? :D)

This week's upset pick: UCF over Louisville
UCF looked like shit barely getting by Memphis two weeks ago, but prior to that they'd turned in some strong efforts, including an upset win over Penn State at Penn State.
Have had two weeks to prep for a Louisville team that hasn't been all that impressive thus far, despite their gaudy ranking.
Will bet UCF straight up and also with the points.

Note: Ok I just jinxed UCF too. if you all are smart you'll mortgage your houses and bet Louisville :1orglaugh

Lee Corso used to do that all the time. If he picked your team, you were doomed. The Corso Curse is what I called it.
:D

BODIE!!! what is up man? and where have you been? and yea i know..clemson has been known to scream wolf. but lets remember...clemson beat georgia before half the team was in the hospital......lol. on the defense side of the ball they are avg. yet..they can come at you so many ways on offense. they may take up the slack. i think fla st has the most accurate QB in the ncaa. he dont have the wheels johnny autograph has but he can throw like eastwood can shoot. you will see more of him on sunday than you will johnny. wheels goes a long way in college...but wont get you by in the big dance. in my football mind fla st and clemson this weekend will tell me a big story when the smoke clears. i think two of the best teams (maybe the best teams) in college football.

i picked miss to upset texas a&m last week and i am not one bit ashamed. it almost happened. this week i have a different plan. its a secret.......

Actually, by completion percentage, FSU's QB is ranked 3rd behind Shane Carden @ ECU and Johnny Manziel is 2nd.

And truthfully, Winston doesn't pass that much, so I assume that's why his completion percentage is so high. By the numbers, exactly 100 QB's in the NCAA have more pass attempts.

Sadly I have given up on this season... my Iowa Hawkeyes are looking pretty bad, and unreliable this year.... I wonder if it's not this coach... has he outworn his welcome? hmmm

Hey smoknn. Good to see you. Had not been to freeones for a long long long time but the college football threads are always great :)
You make good points, but from what I've seen (and here I go pulling a Lee Corso on them again, sorry Ducks!) Oregon would roll either Clemson or Florida State.
Alabama is the ONLY team that can stop us this year :boobies:

Dirk! :)
Good to see you, oh mighty multiple bowl challenge champion
The Domers are going to win BIG on Saturday, don't you worry ;)

...i am still sipping clemson tea..............

Holy Moses with a side of What the hell. That was the most uncomfortable win the Irish have ever had. Our back up quarterback sucks the balls of donkeys. Badly.

Also, Clemson looks like a high school team tonight. Just terrible.

I saw this beatdown coming, but I didn't think it would be this bad! 48 points and counting with over 12 minutes still left on the clock.

smoknn, that Clemson Tea must have been made with raw sewage.

before you laugh to much..go back and read what i said about fla st qb. it kinda looked like clemson fell apart. but they could have very well been playing the best team in the nation. that has a way of making you look bad. ask the undefeated LSU team that BAMA beat for the nc . they went through every team they played that year. then bama crushed them. i said a page or two back fla st has the best qb i seen there in my lifetime....yea i said it. the most accurate hands down.

Clemson didn't fall apart, they were overrated. Evidence: Florida State crushed them last year as well.

And like I said, FSU's QB is not the most accurate, he's ranked 3rd ATM.
