Gold Gloves rarely get to the best defensive player when they have competition from a superior offensive player. Phillips will likely win even though Barney was the better defender

I agree that Barney had the better season - actually by far - but history has proven that the award is not always given to the best fielder. In 1999. Rafael Palmeiro won it in the AL for 1st base...all of the 28 games he played at 1st that season. Jeter won it a couple of years, despite statistically being the worst fielding shortstop in the league.

Cards take the lead in the 4th. Lucky break with the interference call but a very good call nonetheless.

Oh, wow. The Cardinals just got that one gift wrapped.
Atlanta was playing horribly...but the infield fly rule call was an absolutely terrible, embarrassing call.

Oh wow.. I didn't see that happening... The Birds beat the Rangers.. Josh Hamilton has played his last game as a Texas Ranger, I hope Darvish pays off for ya' cause you could have paid Hamilton instead.. If the birds beat the yankee's oh wow. :surprise:

And I firmly believe that the home field advantage this year is for the teams that start @ home.. Cuz the A's have to beat Verlander & Fister!! :uohs: and if they don't the Tigers have 3 tries in Oaktown too get the 3rd win, and I like Detroit's chances with that!! :nanner:

And finally, IMO Cabby has to win the MVP theres NO way in hell Trout should win it.. granted he had a hell of a season, but Cabby put his team on his back and led them into the Playoffs, Trout didn't do that for the angels? they are now golfing & :fishing: for Trout :flaccid: No PUN intended. :D:rofl2:

This one game playoff is retarded. And am I the only person in the world who thinks more teams should make the playoffs? Tampa and Anaheim should both be in, with a best of 5. None of this 1 game B.S.

And Marlo, the Angels had a better record then the Tigers. Don't act like Miggy carried them when their real MVP was their shithole division. And Trout didn't put his team on his shoulders? Did you watch anything besides the Tigers this year? Trout actually contributes without a bat in his hand. That counts too. Both teams underperformed, but Detroit just happens to play in the worst division in baseball.

I'm not saying Miggy doesn't deserve it, but to pretend he carried them any more then Trout carried the Angels is ridiculous.

Miggy will win it. And I don't really have a problem with that, except Trout deserves it more. Playoffs shouldn't be a measuring stick in the MVP race. Especially in baseball.

i like the one game play-off.
poor Atlanta they truly got hosed.
boy did the Rangers collapse
i wonder how much money Josh Hamilton cost himself with those last two horrid games

The one game shit is stupid.

In my opinion there should be three teams from each league who make the playoffs. And that simply is, the winners of each division. Three from the National League and three from the American League. No Wildcard at all.

Yeah I really don't. 4 teams from each league was plenty. Don't like to see the playoffs watered down the way they are in the NHL and NBA

I happen to agree with you and I hate the fact that 16 of 30 teams make the playoffs in both the NHL and the NBA, which means that teams in the bottom half of the league (and sometimes with losing records) make the playoffs, which is hogwash. However, I prefer the NFL's playoff system to MLB's. Granted, MLB would have to expand and add two new teams in order to mimic the NFL's system, but I think that could be plausible. Four divisions in each Conference with four teams, division winners and two wild-card teams make the first round of the playoffs for each Conference, while the two teams in each Conference with the best records get a bye for the first round. I think that's a great way to do it. You reward the teams that had the best season with a bye in the first round, and there are fewer cases in which a team makes/doesn't the playoffs who really didn't/did deserve to make the playoffs (although it does happen (Seahawks winning their division with a 7-9 record a couple of years ago)).

Here are my revised picks (since I was wrong about both wild-card games (*shakes head in shame*):

ALDS:
Oakland over Detroit (Marlo made some excellent points about having to beat Verlander/Fister on the road, but I think the Athletics are playing better baseball right now and have the better team, and even though the Tigers will start Verlander and Fister for the first two games at home, the Athletics have a better and deeper pitching staff than the Tigers. However, their offence is suspect (not so much down the stretch, but just in general), so I think that baserunning and small-ball will be important in order for the Athletics to win)
New York over Baltimore (I really don't see where the Orioles are superior; I would say the pitching is a wash (actually, I would give the Yankees a slight edge, but let's call it a wash), but the Yankees are better defensively and offensively. The only real advantage I can give to the Orioles is that their catcher has a stronger throwing arm, that's about it. Hopefully the Orioles win and make me eat my words, but I don't see that happening)

NLDS:
Cincinnati over San Francisco (gonna be an amazing series, I think)
Washington over St. Louis (the Nationals pitching staff is tremendous)

ALCS:
New York over Oakland (pinstripes prevail)

NLCS:
Cincinnati over Washington

World Series:
Cincinnati over New York

I wonder who that third team in Sam's playoff scenario play? Themselves?
I'm glad you asked that. Actually, you should have been able to figure it out.

Nats had the best record

Reds second best

Giants third best

Nationals play a Best of Five against the winner of a Best of Three (or five) between the Reds and the Giants. That winner then goes on to the World Series, best of seven.

I think my scenario is better than having teams who didn't finish first, are allowed to be in the playoffs.

fair enough your right... I didn't take the toughness of competition into consideration.. Trout is a great player no doubt, maybe one of the best all around players in the league right now.. But just the mere fact of what Miggy accomplished this year is mind boggling considering all of the pitchers he has to face in this era of MLB and post the #'s he did, and actually pulled off winning the Triple Crown is amazing, and the numbers he put up from the 7th inning or later is the mark of a true $$$ ballplayer, not just padding his #'s when his team is up big or losing so bad it doesn't matter..

And I do think Miggy does infact contribute without the bat, as much as Trout does but in different ways, just saying Miggy is no slouch in the field, he may not be the outstanding defensive player Trout is, and the base runner that Trout is, hence the stolen bases, which I think is really BadASS!! but I think Miggy's leadership and importance to his team is not even in question, both players are detrimental too there teams success.

That's what I mean.. No offense rod, but the tigers get no respect, when there starting pitching is on point, there relief and closing staff is strong enough too get the job done, I think the A's miracle season is in peril and finally catches up to them if Detroit plays strong ball @ home and goes back to Oaktown up 2-0.. Verlander, Fister, Sanchez & Scherzer have all been pitching very well.. like I said, if Detroit's starting pitchers all pitch well, the A's will have there work cut out for them, if the A's can pull it off my hats off to them and I will be rooting for them the rest of the way.. but I think the Tigers prevail, and starting @ home no mater who they face bodes well for there chances..

I think Cincinnati or Washington will make it to the World Series..

I also agree that the 1 and done playoff for the wild card is pretty fucked up.. if they are that desperate to get Wild card series over and done with as quick as possible @least make it a 3 game playoff series for the wild card, I think the best out of 3 is little fairer then win 1 or your done.:2 cents:
