Roger Federer is merely in transition

http://www.theroar.com.au/2011/02/01/roger-federer-is-merely-in-transition/

He was “done” in 2009, and went on to claim his first French Open title, and a record number of Grandslams. He was “done” in the middle of 2010, and went on to dominate the second half of the season. He is “done” again. What will he go on to achieve this time?

It is very dangerous, very dangerous indeed, to write off Roger Federer.

Kevin Anderson made it to the final in SA, so he has the chance to win his home tournament
His opponent will be Somdev Devvarman, who I heard is really defensive with no real offensive weapons. But he made the final, so he cant be that bad.
Go Mr. Anderson

wow, something unbelievable just happen in Zagreb:

championship point for local man Dodig, hit an ace, celebrate, throw his racket into the crowd, and when he went to the net for saluting his opponent, the umpire says it was out. WHAT? I JUST CELEBRATE, MAN!!! sorry dude, 2nd serve...

ouch.

good for him that he won the tournament three points after that.

otherwise... that umpire would have get hurt =P

it's Ivan 1st career title, at 26 years old, with no previous finals.

he will rise to around no. 50 in the rankings, his highest ever.

for Michael Berrer, it was his 2nd career final, after the 2010 Zagreb one, losing against another local hero, Marin Cilic.

now let's wait for Johannesburg and Santiago, where also first-career titles can happen...

Kevin Anderson won the ATP 250 of his hometown, South Africa

after Dodig, it's the 2nd local win this week.

it's his first career title, after losing the final in Las Vegas three years ago.

for Devvarman, it was his first career final.

Tommy Robredo won the ATP 250 of Santiago

beat colombian Giraldo in three tight sets. Giraldo serve for the match in the 3rd set.

it's 10th career title for the spaniard, first in two years. For Giraldo, it was his first career final, and his future looks bright for this 23-year-old man.

this week the tour continues with tree more tournaments:

ATP 500 of Rotterdam

Projected QFs:
Soderling vs Youzhny
Ferrer vs Melzer
Tsonga vs Berdych
Ljubicic vs Murray

Robin, Andy or David should win this one

ATP 250 of San Jose

Projected SFs:
Verdasco vs Querrey
Malisse vs Monfils

Outstanding oportunity for the Samurai-Sam to bounce back

ATP 250 of Brasil

projected SF:
Almagro vs Belluci
Dolgopolov vs Montañes

the great dolgo is gonna win this one, and continue with his awesome 2011

Nadal won the Laureus Sportsman Of The Year Award
http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/02/07/us-awards-laureus-idUSTRE71648B20110207

This after winning best newcomer in 2006.
He bites these trophies too.

he deserved that. By far

in another (shocking) news:

Nieminen beat Ferrer in Rotterdam 1st round

:surprise:

very very surprising... David was (is) having an excellent year (he's no. 3 -tie with Roger- in the race*)... i guess he'll be waiting for the clay to show up.

good news for Troicki, who now has a clearer path to the QFs. And there, against Cilic/Melzer is anyone's guess. Anyway, a Soderling-Murray final is highly likely, IMO.

Die For Me
The only reason she isnt number one already is because she only played 11 tournaments last year. If she played a full schedule of 16 she would probably be comfortably ahead, considering her wins at the USO, WTA Champs and AO this year.

Milos is playing soon. Go for the win against Malisse :spump:

Another game for Milos!
Milos the Maple Leaf Missile takes the match against Malisse, 6-3 6-4
He served a bunch at 140+mph, the highest was 147 I think. Some nice groundies too, although he has a habit of hitting some meek shots into the net.

The stream they have is really good, especially for a 250. Even in low quality its better than most.

The commentator is funny too. Spent the whole match trying to figure out how to pronounce Raonic :1orglaugh

There are still matches featuring Hewitt/Verdacso in doubles, Kei Nishikori and Del Potro. Cool tournament, San Jose

Murray lost in Rotterdam 1st round against Baghdatis

not THAT bad, i mean, it's not a shame to lose against Marcos, but still, if you're the Australian Open current finalist, it doesn't look too good...

good news for Berdych, who now his path to the final got clearer.

Murray stopped trying or something. He won the first three games, then lost 12 of the next 14.
In other news, Delpo won in San Jose against Gabashvili and Dolgo won at the Brasil Open (the stream sucks for that tournament though).
Raonic plays Blake today, but I will probably miss it :(

can Dolgo and/or Raonic be the next Delpo ? (that is: getting 4/5 tournaments a year, get masters 1000 SFs, Finals, and winning a grand slam) :dunno:

Die For Me
Can't be sure at the moment, but hopefully they can get in the top 20, then 10 in the future.
Raonic has a super effective serve like Karlovic/Isner, but he has more game than them too so he can get service breaks and then wins more easily. He served Malisse off the court almost.
Dolgo is exciting, he might overdo it sometimes and make lots of errors though. More experience should help him. He has the speed and power to make a good impact.
They might have to wait for Fedal to retire to start winning grand slams :anonymous
Still my main up and comers to watch though

(Montanes close to losing too, helpful for Dolgo)

top-10 seems plausible. Winning grand slams, well... i still have strong doubts.

they're very young, though.

Nadal and Federer era is over, says Tsonga

like Roger said last month: "you guys talk to fast. Let's talk in 6 months" (traduction: Rafa will win Roland Garros and I will win Wimbledon, so, shut the fuck up, you heretics!)
can't agree more with you, Rog: Nole is great in the hard courts of Oz and NY, and Murray as well. In Clay, is a Rafa-Roger-Robin thing, and in grass it's a Roger-Rafa thing. So...

Laver, not Federer, is the greatest ever player

http://www.theroar.com.au/2011/02/10/rod-laver-not-roger-federer-is-the-greatest-ever/

Fed, Rocket, Ice-Borg: each one of those are the GOAT. Only one? pffff silly question.

Got back to see the evening matches. Yusss.
Blake a piece of cake for Milos :hammer:
Not really, the second set was tough and Blake broke Raonic who was serving for the match to take it to a tiebreak.
The Canuck prevails 6-2 7-6.
He plays Berankis next, who is the youngest top 100 player. Should have a good chance against him anyway.

Delpo and Dolgopolov won their respective doubles matches too. Good job guys :D
