The Final in Morocco will be Andújar-Starace

either winner will be his first-ever title.

the spaniard will be playing his first ever final, and the italian his 4th.

no offense, but a final between the world no. 46 and 67 is... not that exciting to say the least.

should be mandatory to have at least one top 20 in the field...

The MonteCarlo draw is out!

My projected QFs (based on seeds):
Nadal - Tsonga
Simon - Youzhny
Ferrer - Troicky
Federer - Almagro

the chances for another Fedal are pretty high, IMO
the chances for a Roger title are pretty low, tough. He should feel lucky if he gets to the final.
the chances for a Rafa title are extremely CERTAIN.

watch out for:
Nadal - Gasquet (3rd round)
Tsonga - Monaco (1st round)
Murray - Baghdatis (2nd round)
Belluci - Simon (1st round)
Dolgo - Gulbis (1st round) wow
Dolgo/Gulbis - Raonic (2nd round) wow
Davydenko - Melzer (2nd round)

the action starts sunday!

exciting week ahead of us :)

MC matches have started but won't be televised until Monday. Rochus won, Ljubicic up a break.
Means that Dolgo/Gulbis and Raonic/Llodra are not screened, grr.

If Nishikori beats Sweeting for the Houston title, Project 45 will be complete with him moving up to 41 in the world.

Raonic beat Llodra, yes sir. 6-3 0-6 6-0.
Lost the plot in set 2 but came back to win the 3rd set, 27 points to 8. Beatdown :hammer:
Dolgo or Ernie might not have it easy in the next round.

Milos the winner against Gulbis, indeed

6-4 7-5
Trademark ace up the T for the match
In the top 30 now

Got Ferrer next though probably :uohs:

Verdasco loses to Robredo in straights, out of the top 10 now. Maybe not ever getting back too.
Mardy Fish in for the moment.

Fedal get routine wins, easy does it.

indeed.

his miserable run continues (he's 8-8 in 2011, 1-5 since San Jose, 8th in the rankings, but 29th in the race)

he'll lose 600 points of last year's final, so he will be around no. 13, his worst record in more than 2 years. :anonymous

The nasty evil twin of Roger showed up again

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/04/16/sports/tennis/16sportsbriefs-federer.html

key stat of the match: 0 of 7 in break points

we all know he's in decline and all, but THIS ? losing almost like he wanted to ? (just like Miami)

i guess we're over-expecting from Roger...

"I don't think I played terrible. I thought it was OK," he said. "It was still the first week of clay, so I don't expect myself to play my very best. If I would, that would be a pleasant surprise."

oh, just shut it, Rog. We're no fools.

his no.3 is well deserved, with little chances to be even no.2

pretty sad indeed :(

for Melzer, it is his first career masters 1000 SF. With big chances to get his first final, i have to say.

a little hope for us Fedophiles:

until yesterday, he hasn’t been beaten in a single tournament before the semis since Wimbledon (almost 10 months!)

he will get back to home to bang his wife and spoil the kids regroup and training hard...

and... wow!
Rafa is TWO breaks down in the 2nd set against Murray...
C'MON ANDY!!!

7 consectutive MC's for Nadal  more competitive than last years 0 & 1 of course, plus it was against the tough Ferrer (number 3 in the race, great year for him so far still).
He is still quite adamant about playing Barcalona, will be tough later on with Madrid and Rome back to back on short rest.
Anyway, that is 1000 points defended so far, still 4000 to go just on clay.

Roger is now no.4 in the race :(

but very close to Ferrer and still far from Murray (no. 5)

Rafa is, still, unbeatable on clay. Period.

HOWEVER, Murray had it, but his body didn't answer him.

that's one of the few things i don't like of Rafa: he wins many matches ONLY by staying put, and waiting the rival to crack...

this week is Barcelona ATP 500. Projected QFs:
Nadal - Monfils/Gasquet (veeeery easy for Rafa)
Soderling/Raonic - Berdych (clear path for LaSod, i think)
Melzer - Ferrer (another SF -at least- for David)
Almagro/Dolgo - Murray (very close this quarter)

I insist: Rafa SHOULD HAVE plug this one off. There's absolutely no need, nor money nor favor (he's from Mallorca, not Barcelona) and he will miss the rest, not next week, not next month, but trought the entire season... :2 cents:

by the way, Simona Halep, in action this week, still has THOSE ??

http://www.tennisgrandstand.com/archives/8101

nop, she doesn't.

how unfortunate :elaugh:

now, getting serious,

Ernests Gulbis: 'I enjoy going out. You can't think only about tennis'

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...you-cant-think-only-about-tennis-2269657.html

"I think if I play my best tennis I can beat anybody. It's not being too confident. I'm just realistic."

A laugh spread across his face as he added: "If I am not in my best shape, then basically I lose to everybody."

so true...

A belated and very well deserved congrats to Rafa (king of tennis) Nadal on his recent victory.

And another easy win today. He can't be touched on clay.

I predict this year will be even better than 2010 for king Rafa. :2 cents:

Ya, easy win. Gimeno-Traver is having a stinker season anyway.
Giraldo will probably get crushed today now.
It will be hard to stop him winning Barcelona title number 6. I hope that Nishikori can win against Lopez and finally pass Project 45 after coming close a few time, plus Raonic winning some more would be nice. He doesn't have to play Soderling who lost to Dodig. Sod only seems to do really well on clay at RG for some reason. Two finals there but only 1 clay(250) title and 2 more finals outside of that.

My picks fell through :anonymous

Nishikori lost to Lopez 6-4 7-6. Again falling one win short of Project 45.
Milos lost to Dodig 7-6 4-6 6-3. Still a nice job taking it to 3 on a surface that doesnt suit him.
Not like a lot of HC guys who go missing during clay season, he is playing lots of events.

I was going for Petkovic over Woz in Stuttgart too. She was up 4-1 and 40-0 then lost 10 games in a row to lose 6-4 6-1.
Too bad for German fans, but Goerges is in the semis at least.

Nadal wins for the 6th time in Barcelona
Got a bunch of records this tournament. 500 wins, winning two tournaments at least 6 times, number of clay titles ahead of some greats etc.
Never lost too many games so it may not have taken too much out of him.

Julia Goerges was a hometown winner in Stuttgart too, beat Woz 7-6 6-3 :hatsoff:
Petkovic, Goerges and Lisicki leading the comeback for German tennis.

Tournaments to watch next include King Nole in Belgrade and guys like Raonic and Delpo in Estoril.
