Shouldn’t that comment be on the 2010/11 thread? Domer homers always livin’ in the past!

I should punch you in the ovaries. It's a relevant comment to this thread.

Instead, I'm going to insist on some snuggle time. Either that, or you have to watch a Notre Dame game and cheer for the Irish.

Also, it looks like USC is trying to dig out from under the pile of shit that pete carroll left them.

They certainly should have sat out of the bowl game for a start.
Yes, the NCAA made that Georgia player sit out the bowl game the year before, so letting the OS players play in their bowl game was just stupid. They probably thought they'd all go pro, but none of them did.

That would be hitting below the belt! :D

damn you guys just broke the tent down and moved the fort...guess ill get my SECistism started lol (holds hands over head)<<<

Urban Meyer joining ESPN as analyst
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=6077362

I just hope he replaces Lee Corso. I use to love that guy, but ever since his stroke he clearly hasn't been the same. I think Meyer will give much better insight for the GameDay panel.

After seeing him on there in that brief stint before the national championship game, I figured he would join. He won't be making the same money, but I would assume he'll be in high 6 figures, or probably over the million mark, and he'll be able to spend that desired time with his family, if that was his real reason for leaving.

As for Corso, you are right that he hasn't been the same, but I doubt that Meyer will replace him. I think Corso became popular for acting like the court jester (I hope it was an act) and ESPN isn't stupid enough to replace him with some straight-laced analyst who just spews stats/opinions. If ESPN does replace Corso, they'll probably go after someone who brings some levity and comic relief.

Had drinks with Corso years ago in a Tampa bar. Incredibly funny guy...it pains me to see him muddling through he analysis on G/D.

He needs to shut it down or merge into a new role....it's not fun or funny anymore.:(

Amazing....USC is on probation and still comes in at #2? Like preseason rankings, however, these lists don't mean much in reality. Lots of the 4 and 5 star guys wash out and lots of lower-rated recruits fill out and mature into studs so I don't put a lot of stock in this stuff. Still, it makes for good conversation between seasons.

I've always questioned these rankings, and this year is no exception. Clemson picked up four 5-star recruits (amazing) and eight players more than Alabama, but Clemson is ranked 8th on the list.

The SEC put 8 of their 11 teams (I don't count Vanderbilt) in the top 20. This is what makes the SEC so tough.

All the recruiting talk on here has been centered around Rivals.com, but has anyone looked at Scout.com? They got Auburn ranked #1 and Alabama at #7. I think Scout has Auburn up so high, because they're counting Cyrus Kouandjio as an Auburn commitment, but although he committed, he hasn't sent in his letter of intent and may change his mind. If all this wasn't weird enough, Scout ranked Clemson at #12. After the banner class they raked in, how in the hell could they be ranked as low as #12?!

Scout does not count JUCOs in their rankings, hence the wide disparity between their rankings and Rivals. ESPN is garbage, so I won't even discuss their "rankings." While recruiting is an inexact sciene at best, I will say that IMHO, Rivals has the manpower and knowledge to do the best job of evaluating talent overall.

And what is amazing is that USC is on probation, and they got 30 LOIs yesterday! Talk about spitting in the NCAA's face... they just put a 28 limit per class in place a couple of years ago when Ole Miss signed like 38 players, and yet teams continue to break rules with seemingly no repercussions.

I read an article about that the other day. They get around it by asking some players to wait until next January to enroll and those who don't qualify due to academics just go to a JUCO.

High ranking recruiting classes make for a nice "spin" in the media guide and make for selling extra tickets to the Spring game. USC did not do anything illegal or unethical even though it sure looks that way. USC didn't sign many recruits last year and lost valuable depth due to transfers out of the program. According to the rules, USC's class next year can only be 12-15 which means...haha. Nice try continuing depth with that!

I have come here to bury my team on a different issue. The issue of ex-players making mischief for current players and, also, the idea of ex-athletes thumbing their noses in the face of their university and the NCAA.

USC to players--don't attend party in fucking Las Vegas!!!!
http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/ncf/news/story?id=6090059

What is GALLING TO ME is that the university pres and AD got on their knees in front of the NCAA weeks ago to beg for leniency and ASSURE the NCAA that the mischief IS OVER. AND NOW THIS? At what point do you raise up the white flag and say, it's over. Facebook has killed another thing. A party in Vegas hosted by Everson Griffen, who apparently just got his ass tazered in Los Angeles for being a drunk, and was the kind of 5star Me First Me Lazy player that high recruiting rankings are based off of will be gurandamnteed of having hookers, agents, druggies and shitbirds along with athletes, and, supposedly other USC students. Shall we ask Texas how many 5stars lived up to their billing on the field this season? If you recruit too many Everson Griffens you spend all your time coddling them and you never win a fucking championship. They're off to the NFL anyway. What do they care?

I think everyone has nothing to fear from USC and Lame Kiffen doing anything about steering this football program back to respectability. In some twisted way I am begging that the Tennessee Titans give him a call!

Lastly, good ol' boy Mitch Mustain, a player I once had a lot of sympathy for turned out to be a dumbass all along.

Here's an excerpt from that story:

Teague Egan, a former NFL agent who had his license revoked by the NFL Players Association in December after he was found to have given a free golf cart ride to USC tailback...

There are a lot of agents doing things that not only violate NCAA and/or NFL rules, many are actually violating US laws, and this guy had his license revoked for simply giving a kid a ride in a golf cart. That is just ridiculous.

^
But if he didn't know that he could lose his license over that simple act A: he's a stupid fuck and probably a lousy agent or B: he knew anyway and didn't care.

What do you think they were talking about in the golf cart ride: how difficult Dillon Baxter's biology midterm was?

Maybe he was laying the groundwork to represent him, or just maybe he was being a nice guy. My point is, there a lot of agents using some truly disgusting and/or illegal tactics, some of them are actually getting caught, and very few of those are actually penalized. Why? I would suspect that it's because these bad agents are giving kickbacks to the people who are supposed to be enforcing the rules.

^
Maybe. Probably. The NCAA rules absolutely need to be modernized in the face of a multi-billion dollar sports industry. We see parties, selling shirts, trips, pretty much everything happen everywhere. How can this effectively be reigned in? Coaches spend their time analyzing film. They don't know or care to know what their athletes are doing outside of practice. They don't have time to care!

^
Yes, the rules need to be modernized, and one rule should be that each school be required to hire someone who teaches a class to the athletes on the rules, and check-up on the athletes to make sure they actually obey the rules.

Another thing, it seems certain that the NCAA and NFL aren't going to crack down on these rogue agents, so I think the FBI should do it for them. Barring that, congress should get involved and threaten both parties to either rid the sports world of all this bullshit, or face some sort of consequences.
