Just saw Butch Davis got canned. Too bad, I think he's a damned good coach..

I know they 'all' push the envelope on the rules but what's up with the guys who can actually coach fudging the rules???:brick: and in NC's case and based on the reports...NC was nearly out of control under Butch...

Too bad...he was one of the guys I thought highly of from purely a coaching standpoint...

Greetings gentlemen :hatsoff: Well, it's almost that time again :nanner:

Here's hoping The Ducks leave LSU huffing and puffing in a great opening week matchup.

Hey titsrock, there's already a line posted for the (late November) USC/UCLA game.
It's USC -9 1/2. I'm taking the Bruins and the points :D

It's going to be a very interesting season this year... Lots of good early games and all of the top 10 teams look to have enough talent to do well. I think the NC this season will have at least 1 loss... let the games begin. :)

i just hope this year..as i do every year...the 2 best teams get to play the NC game..that Wasnt the case last year..if i say who i think the best 2 teams was at the END of last year...you guys will call me names like sec-ist..and stuff....but i will say..the iron bowl was a hell of a game last year..it was the alabama show the first half...followed by the auburn show the second half...would you have bet against bama or auburn after the bowls last year?? i know i know same conf....but im just saying

My Sooners are a preseason favorite, so I guess that means we lose our best players(Travis Lewis out 8 weeks). Is this 2009 all over again?

Good thing Nebraska isn't on your schedule this season. They might have actually decided to play against you this time...:o

It's nice to see someone finally give Auburn the respect they were due.

I think Nebraska has the potential to dominate the Big 10 and rise to be a NC contender on a yearly basis. We'll see...

As for who wins it all this year, I would say the favorites are Bama and Oregon, but LSU has a real shot if Les Miles can ever get his head out of his ass.

The real question mark for Bama is always the same, Quarterback. The last really good passer Bama had was Gary Hollingsworth over 20 years ago, but he couldn't break out as a star as he was the slowest and weakest man on the team. If Bama can find a true star at QB, I don't see anyone stopping them.

With exception to the disaster 2009 season, when does Nebraska ever decided to play? OU is really going to miss that easy W.

Nebraska couldn't compete in the Big 12, so maybe they'll fair better in the Big Ten.

That's an interesting observation. Nebraska 'couldn't compete' in the Big XII????

That is a strange observation to say the least when most teams that can't compete in a conference don't usually fall a few plays short of winning the thing in consecutive years....under rebuilding circumstances to boot.

Nice...lol...

I would say you guys ought to feel lucky that they did leave before they actually rebuilt as you guys were barely able to compete with them when they were rebuilding.:2 cents:

OU had 23 freshman and sophomores on our 2 deep roster last year. You could argue OU was rebuilding.

That was the best Nebraska had to offer in a while, yet.... they still couldn't win. :1orglaugh

How many sophs, Jrs and Srs did OU have in their starting lineup?

Don't know. The article just stated the number of freshman and sophomores on OU's 2 deep roster. Also, I believe they stated OU, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma State were the youngest teams in the Big 12. Which is ironic because those were also the best teams in the Big 12.

Yeah...youngest could imply many things.

Like if it's the case that the starters were all starters the previous year but the second string was comprised of mostly sophs and a frosh or two...then I would consider that young but not inexperienced.

Besides, I don't consider a program which has had a system in place for years and gets top recruiting classes year in and year out ever 'rebuilding'. Well, they shouldn't be IMO.

Programs that are genuinely in the midst of working in a new system and/or have 1st year players in key roles....I consider rebuilding.

Bottom line, Nebraska competed for the Big XII championship 2 years in a row and were extremely close to winning both years. That can be described in many ways but inability to compete in the conference isn't one of them.

:1orglaugh I think that might be a "win or be fired" game for Neweazel! I think Weazel fraked himself when he went Ga Ga for the "pistol" offense  Geez what a mistake that was and will be for them.

I can't say I'm really looking forward to this college football season. Yes, SC playing another lost season has a big part to do with that, but the SEC hype will be even more hard to stomach this season..I think. And I just hate Lame Kiffin. I'm not sure if it's in SC's best interests to have a bad season and fire him and bring in someone that Pat Haden wants...:weeping:

It would be great if I had any faith in Stanfurd this season, but they seem like a team that will regress back to 8-5. Just don't think they have any D to stop any decent team.

Your Ducks are going to have to carry the banner for the Pac12. It would be really nice if UW shocked peeps and put together a big year. The Arizona schools are too volatile to get confident over. I'm not backing cal to do anything this year as a sleeper team.

I'm thinking betting on Oregon to beat LSU and Boise State to beat Georgia are the smart moves here :nanner::angels::banger:

It seemed like everyone on here picked Oregon over Auburn in the NC game, but I reminded them, Oregon had never faced an SEC defense. I believe if the BCS officials hadn't chose that slippery-type of grass (from Oregon), Auburn would have run away with it, but this game will be be a different story. LSU has a track record of not playing well in their early-season games, and when the game is on the line, on several occasions, Les Miles has shown himself to be an absolute idiot, (albeit, a LUCKY idiot). My gut tells me this will be a low-scoring game that could go either way, but I just don't have faith in Les Miles, so I figure Oregon will squeak out a win.

As for Georgia, I don't know what to make of them. Last year, some people in the SEC were predicting a run at the NC, but they only ran into the ground, hard. Mark Richt has never impressed me, but I have to wonder if Boise can handle an SEC defense. Given Richt's track record, Boise could run away with this one, but I have an odd feeling that Richt's guys may rise to the occasion and win this one.

the first 2 weeks scheudle is why im glad the rule is 6 wins against D1-A opponents, i always hated when average teams who knew they couldnt compete against their conference used D1-AA to get to the 6 wins easier and get to a bowl game at the expense of MAC teams who deserved it more.

I hope Boise takes down Georgia and piss off the elitists at ESPN who'd rather eliminate the MAC, WAC, and all those conferences the guys think are unworhty of existance, while always praising the BCS 5 (the Big East doesnt count in my mind) for how great the competition is in them. (with the exception of Kirk Herbstreit, he analyzes the games fairly unlike his colleagues)

The SEC is at the strongest its ever been this season, a 1 loss team from that conference will be in the mythical national championship...mythical cause COMPUTERS decide they should be in it, not a playoff system...

Penny I totally agree with you but sadly its just not going to change! They will always make sure that those bigger schools and conferences get the bigger end of the stick. Its all about money, they are going to make sure that schools like Alabama,Florida,Oklahoma, and Texas get first dibs over schools like Boise State or TCU! I'm sure you have seen some phantom BS calls to help schools like that out. I remember in 2004 when Kansas should have beat Texas but they called a phantom PI call to help Texas win because if texas lost to Kansas the Big 12 conference would have been out $60 million bucks! Then that former fat ass coach Mangino called them out on it and said it was all about dollar signs, he was right. It's sad but its the truth!

As for the playoff system that remains to be seen and might happen possibly in the future but the bigger conference is usually going to get the calls over the smaller schools, thats what's not going to change!
