Bondarenko just upset Jankovic

poor Jelena, since her US Open final back in 2008, she has been terrible (not even a QF!) in grand slams.

somebody even remember she was No. 1 in the world ?

"the real" no. 1, anyone ? hallo, serena  (and welcome, JuJu!)

Former No. 1's like Sharapova, Ivanovic and Jankovic have all been going downhill recently. Out of those three in 2009, only Sharapova reached at least the quarterfinals of a slam, at that was only once at the French.
What happened to them? It just opens the door for more Serena vs Venus finals  (or Safina vs the winner)

John Isner defeats Gael Monfils in 4
He's my breakout guy :nanner:
Maybe wont go as far as Baghdatis, Tsonga or Verdasco have before him, but he can make an impact here

now he got no one other than Andy Murray. Sadly for you, he will lose.

The 4th round of the bottom half is set:
Feña vs Roddick (awesome match! my guess: Feña)
Del Potro vs Cilic (revenge of the US Open QF. my guess: DelPo)
Murray vs Isner (the american kid is playing great, but Murray is too much for him, so, my guess is Murray)
Nadal vs Karlovic (Nadal cruised the first two rounds, but against Kohlschreiber didn't look too good... and Dr. Ivo, if it's serving well, no one, i mean, NO ONE can stop him. My guess is... 5 thrilling sets and it's for any of the two... * cough, go Ivo, cough *)

it's freakin' exciting!! :thefinger

Nadal into the fourth round with some breath-taking tennis from Rafa and Phillip. The German really upped his game after going two sets to love down and for a set and a half he really pushed Rafa and was on top at times, but eventually fell at the final hurdle after missing regulation forehands in the 11th game; 6-4,6-2-2-6,7-5.

Murray through convincingly enough in straight sets, decent variety and an improving first serve percentage. Isner will be a stiffer test for him for sure. JJ/Kim losing so badly was a surprise, opens up the womens draw for the likes of the Williams sisters/Azarenka/Henin and some others. Bartoli also lost in 3 sets.

Well as expected Safina was too good. Bally has had a tennis lesson today.
Told ya!
Anyone think she can win the AO?
No.

Another perfect day! Petrova kicking the shit out of Clijsters! :nanner: Safina and Kirilenko through. :D

Too bad that Henin pulled it off. I can only hope for a long match between the Belgians in the 4th round. The winner should be well-exhausted and crash out in the QF against Nadia. :thefinger

When Robson becomes successful (and she will), she is and always be english (namely british). Always remember that.

Robson is about as British as Greg Rusedski was. As soon as she loses a few matches she will be referred to as Australian born Laura Robson much like Greg was reffered to as Canadian born.

Just like Murray is British until he gets beat, then he is the 'Jock' twat.

Bit extreme that. Murray was always going to better than the old guard Henman and Rusedski (Who I preferred anyway btw.) Most of the negative comments from the media and public are non - tennis fans. I doubt he's bothered either way tbh, he'll get on with his game and I'm sure he'll get into GS finals in the future and win a few.

i don't think so... i mean, he's the ONLY one british has to be proud of in the tennis world... they're not gonna dismiss him like that, IMO.

he's playing great, by the way. He's the only one in the top-5 who hasn't drop a set!

:crash: Bad Day!

Vika seems to be in good shape. The dreadful matches last week in Sydney must have been the ideal warm-up for a sizzling performance in Melbourne. :nanner:
Piece of cake-match against Tathy Garbin (a very likable lady, though. One of my favs. But not against Vika). Next stop Zvonareva. I'm confident. And Serena didn't play that well to scare me.

But... Shahar plays a brilliant set against Wozniacki and then her nerves get the better of her. Yet again! :crash:
Aga Radwanska is the dud of the day. And Daniela Hantuchova loses against a solid Li Na. :(

hmmmmm... you'll change your mind after see this pic of Sharapova's:
A firm ass doesn't make good for being an asshole. No dice, mate! I'd rather tap Schiavone's (urgh!) bum than lay my hands on Miss Emetic.

as expected, Federer cruised agains Almagro, now goes for Hewitt. He wants to beat Lleyton for 15th! straight time. OUCH. Talk about pressure about a head-to-head.

the good news for Hewitt is that he's in Australia, that he's playing great and that he's fresh, since Baghdatis retires last night.

i guess Federer would win in four. ;)

I reckon a straight sets loss.... all decided in a tie break.

It was funny, the media continued to build up the match, it was never going to live up to their last Aussie Open encounter (for the simple fact that they were starting it hours earlier - thus it was never going to last until 4AM again :1orglaugh). It was surprising that they were backing Hewitt, based on a victory in 2008..... yet Baghdatis won their last encounter merely a week and a bit ago. You never count Lleyton out in a 5 set environment, but i was still surprised by the hype.

WILL FEDERER’S GRAND SLAM SEMI STREAK END AT 22?

http://www.worldtennismagazine.com/archives/1484

When we think of the unbreakable streaks in sports we immediately think of Joe DiMaggio’s 56-game hitting streak in 1941. Or, if we look a little closer to the present, perhaps UCLA’s 88-game winning streak in the early 1970s under the auspices of John Wooden, Lew Alcindor and Bill Walton comes to mind. While neither of these records is likely to be broken any time soon, there are several reasons to consider Roger Federer’s streak of 22 straight Grand Slam semifinals the most impressive of all...

very nice reading!

I honestly don't think Murray will ever win a major. Del Pot has looked flat since the US.

Women's: I will be amazed if Dinara ever sees no. 1 again.
