poor Dinara. since last year she made final, she's going to lose a lot of points. good-bye to the no. 1 spot hope.

Henin just got her chances improved. I think she's going to make the final. The other half, of course, it's more open (Serena, Venus or Wozniacki).

too bad DelPo lost... i really wanted to win, however, i like Cilic, and i hope he beat roddick in the QF.

and murray is going to beat nadal in straight sets, maybe four. i mean, have you seen him play ? he's playing awesome! he hasn't drop a set in the entire tournament.

Has Murray played any Lefty's yet? It's pretty hard to catch Nadal as the first lefty opponent...

If Nadal can serve well, he'll win.

Safina is a damn head case. She's got all kinds of problems. But hey, we get to watch sexy Kirilenko again. :nanner:

It was a very match with Roddick riding the Gonzalez storm but the line call at the end of the 4th set spoiled it. No wonder the chilean lost his way after that. A-Rod showed great mental strength and fitness at the end. You didn't think Isner was going to beat Murray did you? Andy looked good in that match and was in control from the tie-break onwards and made some lovely winners. Have a feeling like the US open in 08' he will outplay nadal and win in 4 tight sets.

I didn't think the call was that bad. He didn't try to hit it - his fault. :dunno:

It was called out originally, he was within his rights to leave it. The point could have been replayed. He looked really tired early in the 5th set too. Venus just beat Schiavone in 3 topsy turvy sets. Her dress was the main talking point of the match tho...

You didn't think Isner was going to beat Murray did you?

Not really, he showed how limited he was especially with low volleys, he made about two the whole match. Isner is potentially dangerous nonetheless and should get better with time. He was a couple of inches away from winning the first set, but he got worn down after that I think (Murrays class shows through) :dunno:
He beat Monfils pretty comfortably, but isnt able to overcome the real elite players consistently at the moment.
I just dont like Andy Murray :thefinger

Federer advances
Thats 15 in a row against Hewitt now?
He's looking good, so are quite a few others though.

I missed most of Davydenko vs Verdasco, power cut :cussing:
If someone is going to beat Federer, he might be one of them :dunno:

Surprising that Wozniacki lost, would have liked to see her go through
('Caroline Wozniacki breasts' is at the top of the autocomplete list on google for her name, ha :D)

Missed most of Tsongas match too, he had a tough one.
Almagro got owned in his loss at Auckland, so he turned it around well since then to get that far.
Kind of hard of hard to predict how well Tsonga will play sometimes :dunno:
Seems to be a good momentum player

For tomorrow, vamos Rafa! :nanner:

i have that feeling too, GWhizz...

but HE IS roger federer... so... let that be a warning for those "few others"!

couldn't agree more. Now i hope Venus crush that chinese chick...

For tomorrow, vamos Rafa! :nanner:

<LoL> i was waiting for some comment like that... FROM TITSROCK!

i guess there's more faNadal/rafanatics out there than we Fedophiles... but we all can live in peace :wave2:

their two upcoming QF matches are going to be awesome! my guess: Roger in 4 and Murray in 3 :2 cents:

Azeranka was in deep trouble in the second set, but a change in fortune with a line call changed her fortune around as she powered by Zvonereva in 3 sets (4-6, 6-4,6-0), impressive performance by the Belarussian. Anyone find her screeching/stroppy tantrums slightly erotic? Must be me then. She'll need to play out of her skin to get close to Serena tho, she is in for a very tough match.

Federer however, looked imperious and was rarely troubled by Hewitt. Despite been Australian day and a big crowd with him, he swatted Hewitt away like a fly in the first two sets, not facing one break point. Lleyton finally made a break to put it back on serve in the third, but like a true champion, Roger shrugged it off and broke back. Hewitt as usual dug in and threatened to break in the 10th game with Fed-ex serving for the match but he found a first serve as usual when he needed it and eventually brushed Hewitt aside; 6-2, 6-3, 6-4. Looked like championship winning form to me and Davydenko will be pummeled unless he improved massively after edging a topsy turvy match 3 sets to 2 against Verdasco.

Didn't see the Tsonga match either but I hear Almagro really pushed him after coming from 2 sets to love down only to lose 9-7 in the fifth. Remember him beating Murray on clay in RG a few years ago so good to see him do more on the Aussie hard-courts.

Disappointed to see Wozniacki out. :( Looks like she might have had a thigh problem, should think Venus will be too strong for Li Na but she was dodgy at times against Schiavone so that match isn't a full gone conclusion yet.

Damn.
I hope Rafa's knee is ok :(
They said it might be a recurrence of his 2009 troubles?

Murray had the definite edge in serving, which helped him a lot. Got out of bad situations quickly with big first serves or serve and volley. Nadal has the weaker serve which doesnt help to get as many easy points.
It was harder to separate them with the ground game, maybe Murray with a slight advantage. Nadal can still hold his own there, perhaps having trouble with producing too many short balls at times though.
Murray will probably roll over Cilic now. Time to hop aboard the Fed Express for the rest of the tournament :o
I just hope Murray and Serena dont end up winning, that would be :lame: for me...

Great game by Murray today (or is it night, lol. :p) He really upped his aggression as he needed to and took the game to Nadal early on. I think part of the reason with Rafa's fitness and missing regulation forehands and backhands was that extra pressure Murray was applying to him and his superior defence as well as playing the bigger points better. Disappointing end to an absorbing match with Nadal retiring but Murray marches, still yet to drop a set in the tournament. He'll be hard to beat, even for Federer.

Hope Rafa recovers in due time and wish him a speedy recovery. Great player to have on the tour.

for you all RafaNatics/FaNadal out there: you should be worried, very worried

the bad news:
- his recent record against top-10's: He's now 1-11 in his last 12 matches: Djokovic (3), Davydenko (3), Del Potro (2), Murray, Soderling, Federer. A terrible situation.
- his recent record in big tournaments: he hasn't won anything big (Grand Slams, Masters 1000 and Year-End Masters Cup) in his last 11 attemps! (too much for someone like him)
- he hasn't won any title (ANY title) for 9 months now! too much for someone like him.
- the worst of all: his knee is injured again! that's what you get when your dumbass uncle force you to play all this tournaments, knowing that you style of play is fuckin' body-demandant. And for those who said that "it's nothing, he just abandon for avoid future problems", let me say that it's bullshit: no one quits in a Grand Slam QF, unless it's pretty serious.
- his ranking: since he was the defending champion, and got kicked in the QF, he's going to lose around 1640 points, so, even if Nole loses today, he's going to slip to the 3rd spot, and watch it: if murray beat Cilic in the semis, something very likely, Nadal would be 4th!...

the good news:
- he fought, as usual. it wasn't enough, and it wasn't as harder as it used to be.
- the next important tournament (Indian Wells) it's far away, so, he has time to recover his damaged knee.

like i said here:

So, the future looks dark to him. Pitch black. Because he's not the same undestructible warrior anymore, and the others guys noticed it. I'm going to dare to say that he maybe won't be able to win a Grand Slam. He will be No. 3 or 4 (or even 5! watch Del Potro!) by the end of the 2010.

sorry, people. Sad but true.

Nadia needs to be spanked for the poor performance against the ugly Belgian cow. :crash:

I can live with Zheng Jie in the finals. She's a bubbly girl. Very likable. Best final still possible: Vika vs. Zheng. *fingers crossed*

Vika struggled against Zvonareva. But Serena didn't play that well either. Especially the match against Suarez was error-ridden. Nothing to be afraid of. :thefinger

Federer beat Davydenko in 4 sets.

the semis streak is alive! ;) there's now 23 straight of them  this is probably one of those records that would NEVER be broken. i mean, it's insane, crazy, outstanding, amazing.

the first set was a monologue of kolya: 3 breaks, no break points for Fed, lightning speed, strong consistency... just the way he's been playing.
the 2nd set started the same: break for kolya, 3-1 up. but then, Roger show us all what he's made of: he won 13 games in a row! to take the 2nd and 3rd set with authority.

make that to someone like kolya (and his current form) is something that only a very few players can do. spectacular.

the 4th set was more like a rollercoaster: break Fed, then break Kolya. then, again, break Fed, then break kolya. roger serve for the match, waste a match point. then break again (in an amazing 8-minutes, 4 break-points game) and finally close the match.

good for kolya, he's crossed the line and he's ready to take down everyone. just not federer in a grand slam.

with this result, roger assures his Number 1 spot for at least a couple weeks more, and he will pass Lendl and Connors in the all-time list, with only Sampras behind.

now he his waiting for Nole or Tsonga in the semis... either it's a win for Fed, IMO... and will be his 8th straight slam final. another amazing feat. ;)

Federer will face Tsonga for the semi-final.
I think he can do it, he can get to the final and win it.

Tsonga and Federer faced each othert only twice, and won 1 game each.
Last time (Montreal 2009), Tsonga won.

Ok, Roger is great, ok h'es #1 ad Tsonga is only #10 but Tsonga's got one thing. Sometimes, when he starts to win, he can become nearly invincible. Particularey if the audience cheers for him. Remember Australian open 2008...

i believe that too ;)

yeah, he won, but Federer was 5-1 in the final set... so... it's more like "Federer loses it" than "Tsonga wins it".

"nearly invincible" ? disagree with you there. I wouldn't be that optimistic with his A-Game.

and the audience? c'mon... Roger has more fans worlwide than the entire rest of the tour...
of course, the people will cheer for Tsonga, but only because they like to see 4 or 5 sets, not 3 quick sets. But other than that, there's no case, IMO.

I really thought Davydenko was going to KILL Federer after that first set. He had Fed pissed and everything he beat him so bad that set. Maybe the worst set Fed has ever played, or that I've seen him play.

I think Davydenko is in with the Russian mob the way he throws matches and stuff. He probably makes them a fortune. Maybe they have his wife and kids locked up somewhere so he does what they say. He is just too damn good a player to lose sometimes the way he does.
