anyone heard what tyrone willingham (dork) is doing this year?

Probably polishing his resume and waiting for a call from Arizona, Arizona State, Stanford (if Jim Harbaugh leaves), UNLV, Colorado, UTEP off the top of my head. He is a fine head coach who never should've left Stanford. He had the Cardinal in great position as a yearly bowl team, could beat ND, and I think they went to the Rose Bowl under Willingham. It was puzzling to me why it didn't work out at Washington. But he'll get another chance.

ehh. i think his recruiting was crap - notre dame drew a few good ones. what happened in washington was willingham without the notre dame legacy.
What legacy? He didn't do anything at ND, right? I think there were people on his Stanford staff that were more valuable to him than he realized. As the UDub caoch, he also didn't have much of a track record at Notre Dame to recruit against Pete Carroll, who basically has dominated West Coast (and National?) recruiting since 2003.

What's ironic is that Charlie has been bringing in some great recruiting classes, but it's been the worst Notre Dame seasons of all-time.
It's just feeble media outlets that rank Notre Dame recruits artificially high in order to keep the Irish relevant in today's CFB landscape. Notre Dame is a forgotten "grandpappy's" program that is basically irrelevant today.

Does anyone want ANY Notre Dame players on their team? Nobody wants Jimmy Clausen, Golden Tate, and nobody can even name a single player on their Defense. Didn't Notre Dame not even have a single player drafted last draft?

How the mighty have fallen...Bob Toledo not Tulane. When Toledo was at UCLA about 10 years ago...He was nearly turning the top recruits in the country away as he didn't have room for them all and was running a high powered offense...he could just never put together a dominant defense....

Talk about wicked twists of fate. UCLA had a game scheduled against Miami (FL) in '98 I believe. A hurricane caused the game to be postponed and it was moved to the last game on their respective schedules.

UCLA goes undefeated until they play Miami and a little known back (to the rest of the country) Edgerrin James goes off for 300+ yards and upsets UCLA in a high scoring back and forth game....Knocking them out of National championship contention

UCLA had pretty decent pass defenses but their run defense was a swinging gate.....Ron Dayne predictably went off on them in the Rose Bowl that season as well...

For all of Toledo's great recruiting the guy only had 2 very good seasons at UCLA.....I guess that's why he's at Tulane now....

Well, you have to remember all the scandals that circulated around the bruin program during this time. There were a bunch of scandals--I remember one scandal was that Bruin "stars" like Cade McNown and others had Handicap Placards on their cars so they could get great parking spots on campus...

Big Tubby Tolardo took the fall for a program that was spiraling out of control...

In these difficult financial times, maybe I can help some of you out. I'll be playing a number of games tomorrow, but my 4 largest bets will be

Illinois and the money line
Stanford giving the points
Washington taking the points
A ten point teaser on those three games

If this year goes anything like last year you'd all be wise to bet the exact opposite ;)

Yes. Those two teams ('97 and '98) were both national championship caliber teams. Among other achievements both teams destroyed Texas in a home-and-away series. He was a total head case/bust as a pro, but Cade McNown was an outstanding college QB who graduated after the 98 season.

The hurricane delayed game against the Hurricanes* broke Toledo's spirit, and with it the program's (imo). The guy was never the same. His emotional state got extremely brittle. He (and his subsequent teams) tended to cave in readily when faced with adversity. He also developed a bad habit of affixing blame everywhere but where the buck stops; on his own doorstep. That lost him respect among his assistants and his players. Eventually many of his players pretty much quit on him, which was most glaringly illustrated in the 2001 game against USC.

*never in the history of football have more tackles been missed on one field in one day than in that Miami game lol

I wasn't just trolling. Byron Hout deserved what he got. Boise started this whole mess with their antics last year, and Hout instigated a confrontation while he knew he was in the middle of a crowd of his own team mates, thinking Blunt wouldn't do anything in that situation and would get away with being an asshole. What he did not realize however is that Blount is a fucking ninja.
The incident with the crowd was overblown BS too. I feel bad for Blount because ESPN's coverage has basically ended his career.

Well another season at USC...and another game of force-feeding Joe "Fumbles" McKnight #4 the ball. He's already had his first fumble of the game and we've just gotten into the 2nd Qtr. I have no idea why Pete Carroll favors this guy over our other RBs. They don't seem to be given the same mistake standard that Fumbles McKnight is given. If Fumbles McKnight was assigned -7 pts for every fumble to go with +7 for every TD he scores, he would have a Net Zero scoring sum for his career at SC. I know Fumbles was a 5Star RB out of Louisiana, but, c'mon Coach, he's a Fumble waiting to happen.

As for SC's Defense. Well, it's certainly as fast as Pete promised...but, DAMN OUR D IS SMALL! We have 2 big guys up front, but everyone else is smallish but Fast. Rey Maualuga's replacement, Chris Galippo looks about half the size of Maualuga. And, so far, San Jose State is running on us nicely.

Matt Barkley looks like a high school player out there. I don't think anyone has seen any semblance of the "hype" that has surrounded him all summer long. Maybe our coaches are keeping everything close to the vest....or, maybe we're really going to be somewhat mediocre on O this season....sigh

That's the early word from the West...

Barkley does :1orglaughevery time he goes under center he disappears but the D does look great from what I see I'm trying to watch about 5 games at once.SC just scored 14-3 SC

I always thought Johnson was the better RB. That guy knows how to run!

Well, things have changed a bit out West. SC has taken control 21 - 3. We've pulled away with some running TDs. We've got 30 sec to half and we're trying to put another Score on the board. We're in the SJSU red zone...timeout SC.
