anyone heard what tyrone willingham (dork) is doing this year?
Probably polishing his resume and waiting for a call from Arizona, Arizona State, Stanford (if Jim Harbaugh leaves), UNLV, Colorado, UTEP off the top of my head. He is a fine head coach who never should've left Stanford. He had the Cardinal in great position as a yearly bowl team, could beat ND, and I think they went to the Rose Bowl under Willingham. It was puzzling to me why it didn't work out at Washington. But he'll get another chance.
What legacy? He didn't do anything at ND, right? I think there were people on his Stanford staff that were more valuable to him than he realized. As the UDub caoch, he also didn't have much of a track record at Notre Dame to recruit against Pete Carroll, who basically has dominated West Coast (and National?) recruiting since 2003.ehh. i think his recruiting was crap - notre dame drew a few good ones. what happened in washington was willingham without the notre dame legacy.
It's just feeble media outlets that rank Notre Dame recruits artificially high in order to keep the Irish relevant in today's CFB landscape. Notre Dame is a forgotten "grandpappy's" program that is basically irrelevant today. What's ironic is that Charlie has been bringing in some great recruiting classes, but it's been the worst Notre Dame seasons of all-time.
Does anyone want ANY Notre Dame players on their team? Nobody wants Jimmy Clausen, Golden Tate, and nobody can even name a single player on their Defense. Didn't Notre Dame not even have a single player drafted last draft?
How the mighty have fallen...Bob Toledo not Tulane. When Toledo was at UCLA about 10 years ago...He was nearly turning the top recruits in the country away as he didn't have room for them all and was running a high powered offense...he could just never put together a dominant defense....
Talk about wicked twists of fate. UCLA had a game scheduled against Miami (FL) in '98 I believe. A hurricane caused the game to be postponed and it was moved to the last game on their respective schedules.
UCLA goes undefeated until they play Miami and a little known back (to the rest of the country) Edgerrin James goes off for 300+ yards and upsets UCLA in a high scoring back and forth game....Knocking them out of National championship contention
UCLA had pretty decent pass defenses but their run defense was a swinging gate.....Ron Dayne predictably went off on them in the Rose Bowl that season as well...
For all of Toledo's great recruiting the guy only had 2 very good seasons at UCLA.....I guess that's why he's at Tulane now....
Well, you have to remember all the scandals that circulated around the bruin program during this time. There were a bunch of scandals--I remember one scandal was that Bruin "stars" like Cade McNown and others had Handicap Placards on their cars so they could get great parking spots on campus...
Big Tubby Tolardo took the fall for a program that was spiraling out of control...
