Are not injuries part of the game for both sides? I surely wish Colt was in the game. Alabama brought unusually aggressive pressure, and he paid the price. Now the whole team is paying the price.
If the injury were to the Alabama quarterback, would your objection be the same?
Of course injuries are part of the game. All I'm saying is that Colt McCoy being out made all the difference in this game. I'm not "objecting" to anything....I'm saying that it sucks that the national title game comes down to a clash against 2 teams, one of which doesn't have their best team on the field. Also, McElroy is not nearly as important to 'Bama's offense as McCoy is to Texas'. C'est le vie....
if texas could protect their QB then maybe Colt would not have gotten hurt, don't say Alabama won because of a freshman QB. Don't forget that the Texas receivers aren't catching passes. Monroe let that shovel pass bounce right off his fingers, not Gilbert's fault.
In case you missed it, Colt got injured on a designed QB run so I don't know where you get off with the "if Texas could protect their QB" stuff. It's a risk you take when your QB runs with the ball. It happened, I think it sucks, I wish that both teams would have had all of their best players on the field for the whole game so we could have had a true measure of who had the better team, that didn't happen and Alabama won. Case closed.
Side notes: that bungled shovel pass was a result of Gilbert's unfamiliarity with the first team offense. How many reps do you think he got the past 6 weeks with the first team in preparation for this game? My bet is that slip-up doesn't happen if McCoy is in there but hey I'm not going to play the "shoulda woulda coulda" game....it's pointless. It's over. Yippee for Ala-damn-bama....the undisputed BCS champs. :glugglug:
Also, McElroy had only been sacked 15 times
all season and the Texas D sacked him 5 times last night alone and Alabama spent almost the entire game running the ball. Had Texas somehow been able to convert those first 2 possessions to TDs instead of FGs (one of which was after McCoy got hurt), 'Bama's run game goes out the window and McElroy is forced into a pass mode....bad news for 'Bama. Hell, we might have sacked him 15 times in one game had that occurred. Alas, it didn't and you know the rest of the story. Texas showed themselves to be stoic under adversity last night and I am PROUD TO BE A LONGHORN. Great experience for Gilbert going forward. Thanks for the great season, boys.
