Whats the worst soccer injury? A scratched shin? A stumbed toe?

I know what's going to happen now. A soccer fan is going to go "just take a look at these badass injuries" and post a montage of players breaking their ankles or something.

Special Operations FOX-HOUND
Reminds me of this.

The bigger question is--does the American soccer fan really want it to become popular in the U.S.?

I'm not so sure. I like it being a "hipsters only" sport fan base here in the States. Let the WalMart pig crowd stuff their faces with the NFL and Neckcar :yesyes:

I think I somewhat agree with you. It would be a dream though to see the States win the World Cup one day. Of course that will never happen, so maybe we'll just have to settle for the female US squad and their WC titles.

We need a few superstars to come up the ranks and we already have Howard, one of the premier keepers in the world (although he's getting old). It's nice to dream though. It seems like every young stud that comes up the ranks just turns out to be a flash in the pan. Everyone thought Adu was going to be a stud but he's since fell off the face of the planet.

Good question. I would say that there are those die-hard soccer fans, who have been following the game their entire life and eat and breath the game, that don't want soccer to be as popular. They get pissed when people jump on the soccer bandwagon and that rubs them the wrong way. If the US were to ever win a World Cup, I could tell you that the die-hards would be pissed because you would then get people who hardly follow soccer but are caught up in the success of the national team to jump on the soccer bandwagon. It seems to them that cheering for the team should only come after some sort of sacrifice, like throwing hours away watching loss after loss.

World Cup OR a gold medal. Personally if I was on the national squad I think that gold medal would be the ultimate. :2 cents:

The U.S. is destined to become the kings of soccer. I say this because the U.S. is the largest economy on earth and can afford world class coaches. There are already omens of the U.S. rise: the U.S. has the most young soccer players of any country, and has reached a World Cup quarter-final. The U.S. will get to the top of soccer sooner than you think.

No its called being smart. They wear pads and still get concussion and paralysed. They would literally die if not for pads (some have anyway).

Whats the worst soccer injury? A scratched shin? A stumbed toe?

lol, we will never like soccer, you will never like football so lets live it at that.

Well, I was comparing American Football to Rugby actually. Those guys don't wear padding, and they are running about the pitch the whole time without needing a break. They take hit's just as heavy.

Since when does every sport need to be violent, anyway? By your logic, 90% of sports are shit because no one get's hurt. That seems like a rather redneck outlook of things...

I think the US national team will be a major force in future years. Already built the foundations needed to develop young talent so i think the future is looking good for the USA

A scratched chin? really?

Landon...biggest name in soccer in America and pretty much the face of US soccer/MLS on the international stage. Though I am not liking MLS getting the old washed up players from Europe.

I see MLS and soccer being something like the NHL in the US. A niche sport with a very loyal fan base.

Please, do not get me started on the whole NHL is a "niche" thing. Contrary to what I post here, that is my first sporting love, and growing up in the toughest league for my age in the toughest hockey state in America (we've produced many NHLers and I've played against some in the league and with others who are pro elsewhere) I find that talk offensive. :)

About Landy: He is pretty explosive, but like we've talked about elsewhere in the thread, MSL/Soccer will likely remain niche. Of course, we have done relatively decent on the international scale and that will remain entirely relavent to domestic success. Also, Howard is one of the best keepers in the world. And our under 20 squad is decent as well. Only time tells.

Ask people in Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming or any city without an NHL team who their favorite NHL player or team is and you're going to get a blank stare...now ask them their fav NFL team and they will ALL have one. Yeah, Compared to the NFL and MLB the NHL/hockey, a sport that I LOVE and played for years, IS a niche sport. Which is why for years it was called the NASCAR of the North.

Howard is good though. Unless they play the WC every year...Americans won't care about soccer. Though I do find it odd that MLS is on ESPN and not the NHL...

I've been to Montana a couple times and they seem to enjoy their hockey down there. All the border states seem to be Canada Junior to me. :dunno:

I only know three names in Hockey and that is Gretzky, Ovechkin, and Crosby. On the other hand I know the names of all the offensive lineman for half the NFL and even know where some of them went to college. I can understand where you would get the Niche thing for hockey from. However, as an American I can tell you that I would sit my ass down for a hockey game long before I watch another soccer game in my life ever again. I'd much rather eat out Nancy Pelosi than watch another agonizing soccer match featuring the weakest athletes since tennis players.:2 cents:

One game every couple weeks (or whatever it is)? :dunno:
I bet ESPN paid very little to the broadcasting rights as compared to NHL rights.

Pretty much. Although I don't understand why state universities like Montana and Idaho would not push for collegiate hockey teams. Makes no sense to me. If fucking SCSU, BSU, and MSU (St. Cloud, Bemidji, and Mankato) have WCHA hockey teams, there is no reason why the aforementioned don't have clubs. Hell, even Nebraska Omaha U has their own WCHA team now. :dunno:
