Now while Apes petered out each weekend,it still earned over 81 million dollars in it's first two weekends while The Help hasn't even earned that in it's total four weekends.
Now don't get me wrong,I'm not saying that The Help isn't a good movie, mainly because I haven't seen it,but don't come here touting a movies box office superiority without some solid facts.
Ummmmmm dude, you know what they say about people who live in glass houses. I had my facts together, but this thread was only about the latest good film you watched....so I didn't see it being the place to throw out a bunch of numbers. However, since you decided to do so.....I'll correct you by pointing out that through yesterday, the domestic box office for "The Help" is $131,074,000 (ummmmm, by my math, that is WELL over $81 million), and the production budget for the movie was only $25,000,000.....soooooo, that's pretty fucking impressive if you ask me (a profit of over $106,000,000 and counting). How much did "Apes" cost to make again? I'll tell you....$95 Million. And it's total domestic box office through yesterday was $165,061,000 (it has been out about a week longer than "The Help"). The numbers are fairly close given that "The Help" has been out a week less, and it's still going fairly strong. (and I will point out that "Apes" has had a wider release).
Also:
As of Thursday, The Help has topped the box office for 25 days in a row. That marked the longest uninterrupted streak since The Sixth Sense spent 35 days in first place in late summer 1999.
Anyway, you called for facts, and then provided some incorrect information. There are some facts on the subject...and based on them, I'll stand by my initial post 100%!
Note: In the interest of being totally honest, I would point out that since "The Help" has only really been released domestically, those were the numbers I looked at. "Apes" has made over $350 million worldwide. But, comparing the two films is like comparing apples and oranges. If you like a good story, "The Help" is your kind of film. If you like a bunch of computer generated special effects, and a fanciful story....then "Apes" is the way to go. :2 cents:
