What gives us the right to eat other creatures?

What gives us the right to dominate and industrize other animals, turning them into products such as meat, milk, fur, glue and others.
What gives us the right to exploit all the resources of this world into our own benefit?
I hate it when people think of themself "overall I think I am pretty nice guy", while they are actually just far from being it. Because all humans are "not good".
In other words, will you cry like a baby when another alien race come to this planet and decides to make products out of humans such as burgers and soap?

:wtf: What gives me the right? I can pull a f-n trigger, that's what gives me the right.

Animals are delicious. My only regret is I don't have enough time to try them all.

The word "right" is misunderstood. You may have a "right to life" but it's no good telling that to the bear that's just attacked you.
Because we are civilised we are insulated from reality. In a society where people are starving the question of having a right to eat other creatures just wouldn't be considered.
Most animals have pretty unpleasant lives, living in fear of predators all the time and usually dying unpleasant and painful deaths.Very few of them die in nursing homes.

Re: What gives us the right to eat other creatures?

We as humans are, for the most part, omnivores by nature. I don't know if you have the proper department, as this is not a rights issue.

Oh, BTW, cut into a head of lettuce . . . eat an apple or whatever . . . are you not consuming millions of living cells ? What gives ? :dunno:

Very simple, we are omnivors, we eat EVERYTHING. You can say god made us that way, or it was evolution or natural selection or whatever. Asking that question is like asking a lion why it eats antalope, or a croc. why it eats a buffalo...Because they can.
To the person who started the thread, do you wear any leather? if you do, it was made of DEAD ANIMALS!!! Do you drive a car??? What gives you the right to destroy the planet??? The arguments are endless in these areas.

If we weren't supposed to eat animals, then pig wouldn't taste so good. Simple as that. It is called "survival of the fittest". We can eat them because we need them to survive, and because we can.

/\ does pig taste good? personally, i dont care for it. i dont touch it.

Well, it does after it has been killed, cleaned, and turned into bacon. :1orglaugh

I think in some ways we can look at it as a great "test" - we have the ability to run rampant over the whole planet - over-fishing, over-developing, over-hunting, over-farming - in a really destructive way - and that's mainly been the history of humanity, unfortunately - or we can be intelligent and learn how to use the resources of the planet in a sustainable way that allows us to satisfy our needs while not just laying waste to everything. That's the challenge before us.

But the right to fish, hunt, farm etc is just that we can and we have the necessity to feed our bodies with a combination of different types of food - know any strict vegetarians? Most of the ones that I know have a difficult time staying healthy.

So if you think you are saving animals and ending suffering by being a vegitarian you are sorely mistaken.

you are totally correct about that. But if you are against it (the meat industry), it would seem that the least you could do would be to not contribute to it.

the scenario that you bring up about commerical livestock starving as a result of no longer being provided for by humans (in the event of everyone deciding not to eat meat) is an interesting one. I can't speak for everyone, but persoanlly I would be in favor of that. that would be real natural selection, which I am in favor of. It was the selective breeding and domestication that caused the problem in the first place and getting away from it would be a step in the right direction. I'd also say that a generation of suffering and death is better than having it go on as it does now perpetually.

I couldn't go through the entire posts. But why don't any body talk about food chain??? :dunno:

It has been discussed before by some people that actually know what they are talking about, as well as by me stating my arguements for why I think that it is a bullshit idea.

Because we can - there is no such thing as a right - we all live by actions and consequences of our actions.

That's what it really comes down to for me. We have the choice that the rest of the animals in the world do not. We don't need to eat meat to survive because we have advanced intelligence and technology systems.

Moving toward a system (vegetarian) that is more sustainable, more efficient at mass production and distribution as well as providing optimal nutritional value, plus ethically motivated, seems like the obvious choice for the advancement of society, to me.

If that sounds like a contradiction, maybe I can clarify a little bit. I think that the things that human beings do on an individual level in thier environment is natural selection at work (so the use of technology is not "unnatural"), because it can only be the product of evolution... but when people alter existing ecosyystem structures they are interfering with the evolution of other organisms, and that is "unnatural."

It's a fine line and it's difficult to pinpoint when it is being crossed, so I stress that it is the most important to try to minimize that happening.

You know what Im gonna do
Im gonna get myself a 1967 Cadillac Eldorado convertible

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
I know the OP posted this 3 years ago, but this thread has recently been reborn, so...

What gives us the right to dominate and industrize other animals, turning them into products such as meat, milk, fur, glue and others.

I hate when people bitch about and question the food chain. People who act as if it is wrong for humans to eat animals are completely ignorant to the fact that human beings are animals and animals eat other animals. That's the way nature works, so why should human beings be considered some sort of exception to the rule?

If a lion kills and eats a deer, everybody is fine with it because it's "natural".
If a human kills and eats a deer, some people bitch and moan, as if humans are doing something wrong.

Why? Humans are animals too, you stupid idiots.

In other words, will you cry like a baby when another alien race come to this planet and decides to make products out of humans such as burgers and soap?

That's a stupid argument. Of course people will cry like babies if aliens take over our planet and start to use human beings as a resource. Nobody wants to die, so that argument is moot.

I think pork is one of the best tasting meats myslef. :dunno:

It is one of the best meats and one of the cleanest in terms of lacking diseases which could harm humans.

My favorite lunch is bacon salad...:yummie:

A perfectly cooked pork chop...damn. Good eats.

We are hunter/gatherers. We should adopt "organic" "natural" means of growing food and livestock. We should take more care in what we put in our mouths. We have let gigantic farming conglomerates turn our food into garbage for the sake of profits.
