Re: 2012 Official Gardening Thread

Just came out of the strawberry patch with red fingers and mouth.... I keep saying I'm going to make strawberries and cream but I never make it out of the garden with the little fuckers. Another huge bowl worth today and plenty for the rest of the week. Then I should start seeing zucchini.

nice. we tried some strawberries last year, got too hot. couldnt get em to adjust to the sun. even in the shade.

our zuchs came early then slowed down for another harvest soon. maybe some were a little premature.

got some killer yellow squash the whole time, however.

Tomatoes!

The whole garden (which is being overrun by the squashes).

The leaves on the zucchini plant are so big!

Look at all those little yellow squashes. Are they OK to pick at this size? I don't think they're going to get ANY bigger. :(

Poor watermelon is being trampled by this zucchini. Let me fix that.

Holy crap! I should check the garden more, I didn't realize this one was so big!

holy shit, jinxy! that thing is massive!

and the yellows will let you know. the part where the fruit connects to the plant gets darker i think. they never taste bad. but, if u let em go too long, the seeds will be bigger.

Get some radish in and you will be eating it in 2 weeks!

The soil looks like it could do with a bit of compost?

Dear OCBM,

What did you grow?

I have cut back this year, just going for herbs potatoes and anything else that seems to manage on its own....rocket and raspberries for example

I was going to say the same thing about you turning veg at the right time.

Going back 100 years ago when I was a kid, my dad set op a turkey wire fence in his garden and planted cucumbers along it. Rather than the vines running across the ground he had them climb the fence. Saved space and kept them off of the ground. Pole beans was another space saver. Drive some 1" by 2" firring strips into the ground and run string back and forth across them. Watch them fuckers climb.

You can have it all! Probably won't have any garden this year - a month of work down the shitter and too late to re-group.

fuck man. you're in CO right? is that seasonal this time of the year?

Pretty normal to get thunderstorms with hail here - not so normal to get tornado watches this close to the mountains but it happens. 14 years here and this is the worst to hit my place :(
