Suppertime! Suppertime! Hey Fellas, What'd You Have For Supper Tonight?

Now I know why you like to eat out so much. But anyway.....

Bistek is really good. I like the lemon juice, minced garlic, and soy sauce together and the cut sirloin was flavorful and tender and everything was covered with onions served over rice. It was one of the first Filipino dishes I really got into and enjoyed. Chocolate Pork is the thing I don't know if I'll ever be a fan of.

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
Last night I was at a friends house, a few of us were casing venison Italian sausage for a game dinner in a couple of weeks, and before the poker game we planned he put a bunch of huge burgers on the grill. Had some crispy bacon, and potato salad, some high end beer, plus I won a few pots....it was a good night.

Very, very manly activity and I don't mean that in a bad way whatsoever. That wifey of yours is lucky to have such a manly man.

Funny that you mentioned the card game. Last night there's a local bar that has a hold-em every Monday night. No buy in. Just a fun time tossing in chips and being with people. First time there and looking like the novice that needs help. 20 something players and it's head to head with me and another guy. I'm down 3-2 with this guy and I get handed A-K off. He calls my all in and wins with 8's. Now I have something to do on Monday nights.

So I made my stocks this weekend and finally got the matzo balls right. Fluffy on the outside and just meaty enough on the inside. Size of a cue ball when all was said and done.

Tonight I'm going to experiment with some salted cod. It's been salting out for a couple of days. I had made some cakes that were fabulous but now I want to try them with matzo meal.

Wish me luck.

Single for V-Day... So, get revenge and eat well! NY Strip steak on the grill - with a salad, Texas Toast 5-Cheese bread, glass of Malbec from Argentina. And, Friendly's cookie dough ice cream for dessert. Yum!

For Valentine's Day we went to a local Italian Restaurant. Nice little place on Westwood Bl that got great reviews on Yelp. I got some Penne & Sausage and the wife got the Seafood Linguine. We both really liked our food and the bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon as well. We had a nice gift exchange earlier and will be having a nice exchange of fluids later.

The wife absolutely HATES anything killed in the wild, and prefers to think of her food as having always been on styrofoam, wrapped in cellophane. She would eat fresh fish, but she will have nothing to do with it until clean fillets are put in front of her. I once went to a seafood store, and bought a couple of fresh rainbow trout....heads on. She went into another room, until I cut the heads off.

I've never played Hold Em, and don't know how. We play dealers choice, some guys like wild cards, some hate them. For the most part, the most popular game lately seems to be 7 card stud...2 down, 4 up, last one down. Queen of spades UP kills the game, everyone re antes, and we deal again. We had a game Saturday, hand got killed 5 times before we finished. Last hand or two is usually a 5 or 10 dollar ante, 5 cards up, best 5 win.

Hold-em is the same as stud except the last card is up and common. 2 down and 5 up. No kill card.

I do those dealer's choice games. Me and my buddies rotate those nights. My games are quarter poker shit. Everybody brings a bag of chips or a 12 pack or stop at the liquor store or something while I cook. If you lose 40 bucks, you are a stupid fuckin' card player but you're gonna eat good and take some home. Half of them do the fantasy boxed games where I don't know which characters have what powers. You know what, neighbors don't complain. Nobody gets arrested. Everybody gets home safely.

The wife gets a pass. It's been a while since Og and Grok used rocks and pointed sticks to slay their meat. There is still some Og and Grok in us. Drag the beast back to the cave and grind up the brontosaurus into burghers. If she is willing to cook it than that's okay.

Destroyed the Pizza Hut lunch buffet with the family on Valentine's Day, it was pretty fucking awesome. I can't go out for pasta because I've gotten so good at cooking it at home that I cringe at the markup, unless it's lasagna, and if that wasn't so labor-intensive to make at home I wouldn't go out for that, either.

Oh, yea. Lasagna is a whole day in the kitchen but it's pretty hard to fuck up. Plus the leftover is always better than the first final product.

Now I know what to do with the rest of my WhiteDevil sauce this weekend.

I buy fresh ready made meals at a local deli. They make lasagna, shepherds pie, and a bunch of other pasta, veggie, or meaty meals, etc. I pass by once a week, buy a few and keep them in my freezer. $10 for a container of 4 servings.

Enchiladas and etouffee are the same, fucking worth the work, though.

Threw some onions and garlic and oil into a pot and cooked until clear. Seared some pork neck bones and pork tenderloin and thew it into a pot of marinara sauce and let it simmer all day on low.

Strained the sauce when I got home to make sure no bones were in the sauce and holy shit! Did the bones flavor the sauce. It was delicious.
Served over angel hair pasta.

I have enough left over for tomorrow. It will be even better the next day.

Yea. If you're lucky enough to have a local then God bless. I've got a local Italian place where I get large meatballs for $1 each with sauce. I get 5 at a time. What else do I need? Boil some pasta. The others I can do the same way or put on a meatball parm or slice onto a pizza. Suppertime! Suppertime!

If you want to make a small batch of meatless sauce, for lasagne, or chicken/veal parm, just cut back everything, use one less can of paste so the sauce is a little thinner. Put a pound of neck bones in the sauce, and fish them out with a slotted spoon when it's done.
