So I've had a bad day

ApolloBalboa, you handled the ex situation in exactly the right way. That was bad advice I gave, suggesting that you should tell her to go fuck herself. Yours was the mature, civil way. Good on you. :thumbsup:

Glad to hear that your dog is on the mend. I've always believed that anything I do for my pet pals, they'd probably do for me if they could.

And as for the car, finding another car is probably the best option if just an exhaust is going to cost that much. Out of curiosity, would you mind telling us what type of car you have that requires an exhaust that expensive? That's a new one on me.

And just think of how much better your situation is because you don't have a headache. :thumbsup:

{AHEM!}
I'm thinking a 10 year or under Toyota or Honda (I drive a '99 Camry right now), so if anybody has any thoughts or suggestions, please feel free to let me know.

$2000 for a '99 Camry exhaust... wtf?

Dude take it to a local muffler shop. I had a complete done on a Jetta a couplle of years ago for $140. Everything catback, muffler silencer and pipes, even a chrome tip... :D

If you need a cat buy one off ebay, and have them weld it on. I bought a cat for my Audi for $40...

I didn't see that in the later reply. Thanks 'bird.

A Camry?! Dayuum! :eek: I was thinking he'd say some sort of exotic or luxury car... or maybe some sort of rare import that's hard to find parts for. $2000 just for the parts! Hell, you could buy Premium Link Upgrade ! That's downright criminal.

If that's all that's wrong with the car, I'd probably fix it - unless you're just ready for a newer car anyway. But I'd go to a reputable pipe & muffler shop that isn't trying to rip people off. If you live in CA, then the catalytic converter might cost a little more. But just go into a Pep Boys, Advance Auto or AutoZone and price the parts yourself. Sooner or later, whatever you buy is going to need some exhaust work and it's good to know ahead of time who is trustworthy and who isn't. BTW, you have definitely found one shop which is not.

It is crazy, and I just decided to go ahead with a new car, I'm going to benefit from it more in the long run I think. If you're interested, I'll send you the estimate I got for the parts and you can tell me (if you know enough) what you think it should be/how much I'm being ripped off. If I knew more about cars, I'd look into the parts myself, but I really don't. You're right though, I've learned who not to trust.
