Hockey fans are the most faithful and most patient in all of sports. They get scrooged the most of all the sports fans, and their sport has the worst commisioner of all and yet all they want to do is watch the games.

Along with that, "sports" networks like ESPN don't give a damn for hockey, or any sport that isn't basketball or football. Their p.r. people claim that not many people care about hockey, so this is why they don't cover it, they don't air any NHL games and they don't whisper a word about the sport, except for maybe a few seconds of a single play, mixed in with a high school basketball game, a tennis match and a golf swing. They honestly believe we'd rather hear about high school basketball than professional hockey. They give air time to poker, because they'll have you believe people want to watch people sit at a table instead of a real sport. SportsCenter spoke for exactly 7.5 seconds about hockey yesterday. Hell, not to get too far off subject, but they don't even cover the NBA outside of the Lakers, win or lose. Thank God for the specialty networks, NHL Network, NBA Network, etc. Soon enough ESPN will be nothing but debate shows like all of our news networks.

Great post. ESPN has becoming an east-coast caricature of itself. I only watch it if I have to. No matter to me....I've got NHL Center Ice so I could give a squirt of piss about them.

Hopefully you've got a young'n down there somehow Jagg, and hopefully a youth program that can guide him to NHL success. ;)

Inaugural 'Wednesday Night Rivalry' is Most Watched NHL Game in NBC Sports Network History

...But you're right, ESPN...No one cares about hockey...

By the way, this week's game is Chicago Blackhawks @ Minnesota Wild, which I don't think many people consider a true rivalry. I'm surprised they didn't schedule Chicago vs Detroit for a Wednesday Night Rivalry. It's only one of the oldest rivalries in the league.

Well, I'm too old for "young-uns" (grandkids maybe) but my 24-year-old son grew up in the south and is a hockey lunatic due to his upbringing. He's a gigantic Aeros fan....actually was rooting for the Wild to beat my beloved Blues the other night (thank God we prevailed in overtime) due to the preponderance of ex-Aeros on the roster (Granlund, Rau, Scandella, Brodin....wasn't Larsson up for awhile?). He also plays on a roller hockey league (he's a 6'2", 215 lb. D-man....hell on wheels!). Teach your kids to love hockey and the spirit of its fans will overcome anything....including lockouts, greedy owners, idiot commissioners and bad TV networks. The greatness of the sport itself is bigger than any of those things.

Meh. Bettman's the only reason Canada still has as many teams as it does, so I'll ignore his ugly smirking face as usual.

Just got done watching period 1 from the Joe.
Caught it on the St. Louis FSM feed.

@Jagger69 Blues are looking good. Reseleit too. I can remember well theBlues falling behind at the Joe
and Just folding. Don't think that will happen with this years Blues squad.

Refs are calling this one tight folks.
I'm back after the game.

Yeah, both the Blues and Red Wings are putting on a good game. I knew the Blues would but I also know the Wings would improve themselves.
Still, seeing as both teams are division rivals for the Blackhawks, I have no preference. Just love the game.
Looking forward to the Hawks game in Vancouver in an hour, speaking of rivalries.

While I truly appreciate your accolades for the Blues I am compelled to say that the phantom "shot to the head" major and match penalty against Backes has to be one of the worst calls I have ever seen in my 40-plus years of watching hockey. Even Mickey Redmond agreed at first although he was tickled shitless (predictably) when Detroit scored the go-ahead goal. The ensuing 5 minute power play literally gift-wrapped the game for the Wings. A total travesty....so you guys get the win. Good for you....it happens. For once in many years, I absolutely know the Blues are the better and much-deeper team. I'm hopeful we'll extract our vengeance the next time we play you. Believe me, I'm not one to blame officials when my team gets outplayed and I love a great hockey game even when my team loses but tonight was Christmas in February for you guys and you know it.

Well..feel for the Blues after this one. as I said earlier it was a very tightly called game.
Refs blew a call big time late in the 3rd. 5 min. major for a shot to the head. Only the call
was made by the trailing ref who saw the play from the backside. Replays show a clean body shot
Maybe at the most, interferance.

Then Pavel the Magican took over after the blown call. Blues outworked the Wings all game long
and The Wings attempts to clear their zone were Pitiful most of the game.

My Wings won but it was a gift. Hope Karma doesn't bite them in the Ass later for this one.

Detroit certainly didn't look as pitiful as they did Jan. 19. and aside from 1 really bad call, the Blues didn't dominate like they did the 1st night of the season, they didn't have 4 break away goals. I was a bit hostile and mistaken about the quality of our team this year, DEFENSE is definitely a work in progress with the loss of Lidstrom and Stuart, but its sort of mending with time despite all the injuries, their not a as pathetic as they appeared to be on the 1st night. Are they as good as the Blues this year, prolly not, but when you have Datsyuk, Z.berg and some other good talent there not as piss poor as some of the other teams in the league. The Blues look good, but there hitch (no pun intended) has always been the way they play in the playoffs, so until they win something they can be just like the Sharks a good team that doesn't ever put it all together when it counts. :2 cents:

Will there be this big huge fucking ASTERISK next to the Stanley Cup Winner this year? You know, something along the lines of "These fuckers only played 1/3 of a season." I really hope the Blues do not win it this year. What a shit-stain of a Stanley Cup to be known for..... freaking minuscule season.

It's actually half a season, and frankly it'll be VERY impressive, considering there was only 6 days of training camp. I actually think whoever wins the cup during this season should be extra proud of themselves.
